I have been coming here for years for Dim Sum and dinner. I was born and raised in NYC Chinatown so I know authentic Chinese food when I taste it. All the food here is very authentic and always well made. My tip to you is always come early for Dim Sum or dinner. There has been many times the waiting line spills outside of the restaurant, especially when the weather is nice. Go and enjoy!

I’ll be honest, I feel like the Orient is slightly overrated. I enjoyed my food, and the service was quick, but the atmosphere is weird. It is all decorated very nicely… And then there’s dollar store paper decorations on top of everything. I also felt that $ 15.95 for sesame chicken was a bit excessive, even though it was good. We have determined now that Sesame Chicken and General Tso’s Chicken are in fact the same exact thing, minus sesame seeds for the latter.

The food here is great, but there is also a long wait for the table. The Pan Fried Noodles are my favorite. There is also dim sum.

This is my go to spot for dim-sum on weekends when I’m in Long Island and consider myself a regular, I’ve been coming here for maybe 3 years now. I must have tried 5 or so other places out here before finding this one and I’m glad my search has ended. The alternative would be to drive to queens and that’s a road trip. I have my coworker to thank for introducing me to this place. The place does get crowded on weekends and parking gets full. Only one time I’ve had to park in the street but it’s a local residential street that doesn’t get too much traffic so no worries about getting sideswiped. If you don’t get there at opening there is usually a wait but isn’t very long maybe 10 minutes or so for a party of 3 – 4. One time we showed up with 8 and they were able to accommodate relatively quickly given our size and no pre-notice because they don’t take reservations. Definitely one of the few places I highly recommend it’s one of those«Hole in the wall» places but if your in the mood for Dim-Sum and don’t want to drive to queens, this place will hit the spot.

On a weekend, this place is a madhouse. Since it’s a popular spot on LI, the tables are consistently full and unfortunately crammed so close together(I suppose like most dim sum spots). I’ve been here for both a regular meal and the dim sum and I think even though it’s more pricey, go for the regular menu options. Maybe I’m biased, but if you’ve had dim sum in Chinatown or Flushing… the bar is set pretty high. From the fried leek dumplings to the steam rice noodle — everything was good. Nothing stellar. But the best menu item IMO was the fried taro. Very crispy and delicious. I was really looking forward to the egg custards(a favorite) but their lackluster left me a bit disappointed. The prices are good and if you’re willing to brave the crowd, you should come to The Orient. It’s one of the very few spots on LI top have dim sum!

One of the things I was nervous when moving from city to LI was missing out in my Chinese spot… When i first discovered this place about 6 years ago it was always on point. Well the last few times eating from here I’ve been quite disappointed. Since I loved it so much and feel like every one deserves a chance to redeem yourself, I gave it a few times before writing this review. The chicken is still white but I feel like they got lazy. The fried rice has no eggs or veggies and very little pork in the regular fried rice, the chicken is dry, etc. Unfortunately, I think it’s time to find a secondary spot

I have had a couple of VERY good meals here. I like it. The food quality is definitely up there. The ribs are nice & meaty, the lettuce wraps were flavorful and plentiful, always remember that everything on the menu is for more than one person. The sesame chicken was delicious, nice big nuggets of chicken, moist and tender. The sauce was tangy and just right. The beef chow fun was amazing, the beef nice & tender, good flavor, if I had to complain I’d say the noodles to beef ratio was high, but it IS a noodle dish, not a beef dish. I’ve also tried the steamed Chilean sea bass with ginger sauce, oh so good… this is a smaller portion, and is like butter… if fish is your thing, this is a good choice. We were looking to have dimsum, but the waiter told us that’s a lunchtime option. We ordered steamed veggie dumplings, kind of bland, but soy sauce was a good fix. One thing to think about is its a DRAFTY restaurant. We were seated in the front window and asked to move immediately, which they did no problem, we were moved to the back of the restaurant which was fine, until a delivery was coming in the back door, which was right behind our table, the door bolstered open making it worse than where we started. Looking forward to trying more menu items in the future.

I went with my family today for the first time. The customer service was good, dim sum are good, and the price was good. I went with my husband, and two elementary grade kids. We were full after having nine plates. And cost was 37 including tax and tip. Waiters speak English well so no need to worry like when you eat in Flushing. I was little disappointed about their chives dumpling, usually it is very juicy when I eat in Flushing but their ones are little dry. Also steamed sweet rice in Lotus leaves were too soft. But except those, I am pretty impressed by their dishes. We will definitely come back this place again.

Yeah, I grew up here, I know how everyone loves this place, but I do not. Great dim sum, yes… and fantastic greens(shout out to you baby bok choy).but the acoustics of slamming plates and cranky matron at the front put me in a bad mood… sometimes we go for nothing other than a change from Fortune Wheel which I always prefer. At least the surrliness there fits the bare bones atmosphere. Get there early, cause parking sucks and make sure that your whole party is present or you will not be seated(unless you know the owner, also a crank pot).

I always come here for dim sum with my family. The roasted pork bun is amazing. I would also recommend the tripe and the pan fried seafood noodles. Portions are huge here and we always end up leaving with a doggy bag. There is always a line up front the restaurant on weekends so come early if you don’t want to wait too long. The only con is that the ventilation is not that great there. I would end up smelling like greasy food the whole day.

It’s kinda hard to find Chinese food that is actually food, but this place is perfect. Nice chunky white meat chicken, beef, everything. It’s flavorful and well prepared. It’s also a nice sit down place, which seems hard to come across nowadays. Give this a shot over your regular takeout joint I’m sure you’re gonna like it.

Placed delivery order via their website. Food arrived over 90 minutes later luke warm and very disappointing. Aside from the food tasting very bland the authenticity is more akin to a step above sub par Chinese take-out. The $ 5 scallion pancake we ordered was soggy and oily and the price doesn’t warrant the quality or quantity. Save your money if you do order from his place. The shrimp with walnuts we ordered arrived with some weird red ketchup sauce. Usually this dish is made with mayonnaise and condensed milk so we were pretty disappointed paying $ 17 for this. The shrimps were soggy and warm at best, broccoli seemed like it was run under hot water for a few seconds given the crunchiness bordering raw, and the walnuts were as crunchy as al dente pasta. The peking pork chops were actually decent and would have been a lot better if we received it hot. All in all we will not order from this place ever again. Will opt to make the extra 10 minute trek to Fortune Wheel in Levittown.

This is our favorite place for take out. I say take out because we haven’t ever actually eaten inside. However, we order from here on average twice a month. The ingredients are always fresh. We admittedly order the same thing each time, and they are always wonderful and always consistent.

I’ve been here twice and both times I’ve been impressed. Don’t let the plain storefront fool you. It’s actually very nice inside. You don’t often see dim sum Chinese restaurants in Long Island so this is a gem. My family and I have dined here twice(once trying their dim sum and once for dinner). My parents are picky about their Chinese food but they, as well as everyone else, thought the food was cooked really well and were savory(that’s saying a lot coming from us who are used to Chinese food in the city). I find it fresh tasting as well. I have no complaints about the service, they’ve always been accommodating.

This place is consistent. You must go here on the weekends to hit the dim sum cart express that is the best way to open your mind and palate to food. The steamed egg custard was awesome, wife favorite. The shrimp har kow always a pleaser. The lotus leaf with rice and dried shrimps very good. We tried about 7 different ones and of course with hot tea. Love this place.

Went back today after a few years. Split a sesame chicken and boneless ribs with the little lady. The food came out super fast and was very good. We will definitely go back if we want sit down Chinese.

I was here back on Fathers Day few Sundays back and I think we definitely picked a wrong day to visit. Arrived at around 1pm and the restaurant was packed with a waiting time quoted at 20 mins. So after walking around the area a bit to other strip malls and surprisingly a park nearby we came back to be scolded by the waitress that we weren’t here when they called. Oh well at least we have a table now. Unfortunately even after sitting down it required more waiting as the Dim Sum carts seemed particularly busier or slower that day that we probably waited another 10 min before any significant cart rolled by. However I think after the lunch rush slowly tapered off we finally got to try some of the food, they are pretty good for most parts and authentic stayed to the Cantonese style I would say food wise pretty much on par with New Fortune Wheel that’s nearby I’m pretty sure they are rivals being so close to each other only few minutes away. So not much to add for the Dim Sum offering as they have the standards of what you expect,(Cha Siu Bao, Chicken Feet, Carrot Cake, etc) I didn’t get to try their beef tripe however and the egg tarts were out. The mango pudding was as expected and for what they had to offer it was decent. While we were waiting we ordered some fried rice since thought dim sum might be too slow. We ended up taking most of that home and I have to say the sauce they add on top is really too much I think. I get they cater more to the locals that its leaning more and more toward a fusion cuisine but I thought the fried rice could have just stayed as it were without the sauce on top. The rice themselves were great and definitely traditional HK style. We also got an order of black bean sauce clams to go since we don’t get to try those often. While the food was great I think they could have been bit more generous with the clams. Waiter service were bit mixed, we didn’t have a particular server assigned to the table so at least 3 – 4 people helped out throughout the meal. Some were very helpful and others not so much, one guy acted like I’m about ruin his day when I asked to order dim sum from the menu… Atmosphere-wise its not a very large banquet hall style that you see in the boroughs which helps explain the wait and the furniture and walls are quite modernly decorated that it feels more like a PF Changs than a Cantonese restaurant haha But overall it was a decent meal. If it weren’t for the wait at the beginning would definitely be a more favorable experience. Here’s to hoping they were just having a very busy day otherwise it looks like New Fortune Wheel is probably my go to dim sum place for the time being.

Mmmm. Cantonese style Chinese food is in our NYDNA, it’s something that can’t be denied. Where I live out east, the local Chinese food really stinks. My brother in law understands what our wives crave and offered a restaurant in Wantagh, um ewww. The Orient Restaurant truly understands what I want to make me a happy pappy. The trend for these places with tablecloths and noodles on the table is fading away. Long Islanders want more asian fusion style and Sushi restaurants(I hate Sushi…) My family and I sit down to an empty restaurant. I know the masses are coming, I got here early. I don’t wait in lines, seat me Tommy! I order a nice Chinese beer and I don’t see spring rolls on the menu. I grab the waiter, my wife wants spring rolls. Not a problem sir. I didn’t want to get too crazy, I ordered our standard Chinese dinner: Funky House Lo Mein Sesame Chicken Orange flavored beef The noodles they put out were fresh. So far me likee Spring Rolls? On point Funky House Lo Mein? Check in the A column Sesame Chicken? Holy moley that is some mite-t-fine chicken!!! Orange flavored beef? Orange flavored beef is a sacred thing to me. If you mess this up I will tell the waiter it sucks. The Orange flavored beef being served at The Orient Restaurant is the highest caliper of steak, so tender. Its sweet, its coated, its orangey. Amazing… I knew my Unilocal buds wouldn’t steer me wrong! We’re getting ready to leave and I see the masses lined up. I’m sure this place in a strip mall no less is a mad house. «The» Orient Restaurant in Bethpage.

Over the years the Orient has dramatically changed from a NYC style Cantonese enviornment to a more sophisticated Chinese restaurant… Tommy used to be in the dining room all the time and would comment to me «you never use a menu» that was because I could ask him whats good that day and he put the order in. This allowed us to try things I would normally never pick on the menu. The food is still always great, and their lunch time dim sum is fun, particularily on the week ends. Actually, I preferred the old Orient, but Tommy’s vision is good also. We eat every Friday in Queens and go to the old fashioned chinese restaurants to enjoy the feel and ambiance… its a good thing
