History

Established in 2013.

Saxbys CEO Nick Bayer created Saxbys Coffee in 2005 because he wanted to provide a welcoming space with consistently good coffee. Since then — thanks to an unparalleled focus on hospitality and community — Saxbys has expanded to 30 cafés. Saxbys Coffee opened its Lehigh University café in 2013.

This place is my go to for coffee and related beverages. I am prone to getting the hot chocolate or mocha mexicana, as they are above average as compared to some of the other drinks. I like how saxbys offers many promotions, including free iced coffee based on various events as well as the promotional discount when using the app. Overall, one of the better places to get coffee in South Side Bethlehem.

I wish there is an option to give zero stars… Saxbys appears to be a friendly college café, do not be fooled. If their overpriced items that are loaded with sugar do not deter you than their unfriendly staff and policies should! Their staff is unfriendly, shooting dirty looks right and left.
I simply entered this mockery of a coffee shop to study for a couple of hours before the library opened, and I was then forced to pour out and put away my non-​Saxbys coffee. Quite a scene this created. I regret ever stepping foot into this establishment! If you want a pleasant cup of joe then I would suggest you go to Dunkin’, Starbucks, or even Johnny’s

The brewed coffee and the espresso drinks here are consistently above average and are far far better than the other coffee options on this side of the river (within reasonable walking distance of Lehigh).
Yes the service isn’t stellar but it’s on par with the rest of the neighborhood. So it is what it is when you’re in that area.
If I have to choose between:
1. «Get terrible service, wait a long time, pay a lot, and have mediocre coffee and regret the experience»
OR
2. «Go to Saxbys, get mediocre service, wait a long time, pay a lot, and have better than average coffee»
Three stars for service. Four stars for the coffee. And four stars for having a reasonable environment without obnoxious décor to sit and enjoy my coffee.

The other reviews are fair assessments; the service is terrible. The counter staff could not seem to care any less and are not particularly friendly. If you have a question about a product, they definitely will make you feel like you are inconveniencing them.
That said, their coffee and tea is actually great. While good customer service is important, I do like having a place that is not terrible or starbucks that is open in the morning.
If they can keep the drink quality (haven’t tried the food), and not make you feel like a total asshole for coming in there, I will upgrade to 5 stars.
