Description

Specialties

W. Curtis Draper Tobacconist (Drapers) was founded in 1887 by William Curtis Draper. It is the oldest full service tobacconist in the District of Columbia and the fourth oldest in the United States. Proprietors John Anderson and Matt Krimm offer a full array of cigars, pipes, pipe tobacco, snus and smoking accessories (lighters, ashtrays, cutters, punches etc.,) to a national clientele.

History

Established in 1994.

The began as J.B. Sims Fine Tobaccos in Oct. of 1994 on St. Elmo Avenue where we stood for 14 years. The little house became rechristened as Bethesda Tobacco in December of 2001 and has enjoyed a reputation as the premier destination for fine cigars, tobaccos, and accessories serving the greater Bethesda area. In January 2011 the shop was purchased by John Anderson and Matt Krimm of W. Curtis Draper Tobacconist, the oldest tobacconist in the District of Columbia and third oldest in the United States.

Business Owner

Matt joined Draper’s Downtown DC store in 1997 and took over the role of outside sales and marketing. When Duke, the previous owner for over 20 years retired, Matt and John bought the business outright and looked for ways to expand the Draper brand. In 2011 we bought Bethesda Tobacco and renamed it W. Curtis Draper Bethesda. The new shop has quickly become a destination for premium cigar smokers in the area.
