A truly excellent experience! After interviewing 5 architects and design/​build firms in March 2008 we selected Manion and Associates as the architects for remodeling our home. We cannot imagine having done it without Tom and his team. The project included an addition to the back, finishing the basement, attic, and garage, and gutting several rooms in general. Tom listened closely to our wishes and had my husband and I each complete detailed questionaires separately, which brought up many new aspects that we had not previously considered. Tom and his team created 4 different designs for us to review. We discussed what we liked most about each design, and Tom came up with a 5^th design that incorporated the aspects we most preferred.
The only problem we experienced with the overall project was with the contractor, formerly ACT «Architectural Construction Technologies» owned by Chris & Nicoleta Papadopoulos. I think this contractor has started again under a new name «Green Solutions for Architecture» so beware! This contractor was a nightmare and should not be in business. Tom helped mediate some of the contractor problems and we managed to complete it.
Tom charged a fixed fee of $ 18,500 which was only about 5.5% of the total cost of the project. The other architects we interviewed quoted 10%-12% of the cost which is double Tom’s fee. We did have a few extra charges of a couple hundred dollars a few times for additional work we required that was beyond the fixed fee, but we completely understood this and were fine with it. His total fee with a few extras was by far lower than any quote received from the other 4 firms.
We are extremely happy with everything Tom and his team did. If we ever have the need for an architect again in the future we would not even consider using anyone else.
