Chicken skin had an OK flavor. Kauffmans is nothing special though, especially for not having BBQ sauce. Truly it’s a joke, and I would have refused to pay if it wasn’t a cafeteria style checkout. Not worth the detour to get here.

Don’t call yourself a bbq joint if you aren’t even going to have barbecue sauce or pulled pork. This is a joke, and the only people coming here are people with dentures. Slurping down some mashed potatoes. I’m pissed they took my money before I could assess the food.

Nothing beats Kauffman’s BBQ! After hearing so much about their amazing chicken it became a quest to seek them out; it was well worth the adventure. When you walk in you’re greeted with view of the rotisseries busily turning chicken after chicken. The menu is large and offers more than just chicken(sandwiches, steak, seafood). I ordered the ½ chicken meal with a baked potato. The chicken was roasted to perfection and has amazing flavor and matching juiciness. The ½ order is large enough to share, or enough to tackle alone if you’re up for it. The potato was tasty and paired well with the chicken. The kids portions are favorable and were more than enough for our children. The pricing is fair and our family of four was fed for around $ 30+ which adds more to the value of our experience. We will be back!

Very disappointed. Just got the chicken dinner that I purchased for a fundraiser and I have to say I have had much better. The skin was soggy and not cooked through but the white meat was dry. The potato that came with the dinner was so over cooked it had turned a disgusting greyish color. The roll was hard and dried out. I sure hope that they give a decent percentage to the group that hired them as a fund raiser. I would not purchase anything that they cooked ever again.

Great veal steak. Awesome brown gravy. Potato filling has the consistency of the inside of a knish

This was a totally random restaurant we found when driving down I-78. It’s a little off the highway but DOIT! The chicken was so good I ate it all until my stomach hurt! The prices where crazy cheap too. It’s very popular place with locals, they were amazed at meeting people who had never been there before! CASHONLY!!! They have ATM at location though.

Can’t go wrong with the chicken here. Don’t even bother with anything else on the menu. You come here you come for one thing. Couldn’t tell how many times the family goes there a year.

This was a great little fried-chicken establishment that was clearly popular with the locals based on the huge line on the Sunday when I ate there. The giant ceramic chicken outside adds to the appeal of this slightly out-of-the-way spot.

Not a fan of a cafeteria style restaurant but food was very good so I overlooked that part. Chicken and fries are great. Not far from rt 78 and a well kept clean establishment. Recommended.

The BBQ in the name is slightly misleading. The rotisserie chicken is good but aside from this I was disappointed by the compressed meat rib tips and salty French fries. The outdoor space is amazing and worth the stop for travelers with families.

I arrived around 6PM on a recent Sunday evening and there must have been over 50 people in line. I thought about leaving but I just drove over 45 minutes to get here. The line moved rather quickly and I noticed a much longer line growing behind me. I get my usual half chicken dinner with a baked potato. I was impressed that the salad bar was being continually stocked during this busy rush. I always enjoy the salad bar here. It is included with the dinners. My half chicken must have been from a smaller bird and was a little on the dry side. I have had bigger and better chicken here and I assume what you get is decided by the person behind the line. You actually go through a cafeteria line and in this line, you can view all of the wonderful desserts. I did look around at other tables and actually saw bigger birds being consumed. My baked potato was alright. It was tasty but was slightly dis-colored on the insides. I paid under $ 10.50 for my meal, which included a hot coffee. I filled the cup with ice and made iced coffee and even the coffee area was well stocked. Since I really filled up on the wonderful salad bar, I just watched other patrons get their ice cream fix, in the lobby area. Next time, I will be getting ice cream after my dinner.

I enjoy going here. The chicken has great flavor, but I wish the sides were more substantial. The potato filling is good, but you never get that much. The location and scenery are nice. There is a mini-golf course there(though I have never played there). It looks like fun though! They also have ice cream too. I have had the ice cream a few times and it is good! It is a nice place to visit!

Was in town with a friend of mine and we Unilocaled this location out while on the road. Nice place, heard it was the best place to get chicken in town so we figured we would give it shot. They have two options here, take out or dine in and its setup as follows; Once you walk in there is a dining area through a small corridor in the back right(if you entered via main entrance/parking lot) and before the corridor there is a window booth for take out orders to the left of said corridor. IF you go in and there is a line make sure you ask if its for the dine in or take-out line because the two get easily intermingled and you will find yourself waiting on the wrong line. The staff is very friendly(as is everyone around here!) and the food was good, was it the best rotisserie chicken I have ever had? No, but it was still very good nonetheless! The sides were fresh and delicious, I had the half chicken with coleslaw, frickles and a birch beer, which is a must-drink according to the locals. The chicken was fresh and I believe raised locally, which made for a great meal. This place is great for families and groups, the prices are very good and there is plenty to do for children/families such as the miniature golf, ice cream shoppe and pond near the outdoor eating area. The grounds are clean and well kept as well.

This is a hidden gem in Berks County. Tucked off 1 – 78 this great chicken place is worth the 15 minute drive from the Interstate. The staff is very friendly, and the price for the food is very reasonable. I would suggest going with a group as you will want to share the different sides with your chicken. For dessert, hit the ice cream… a great family place!!!

Went for a day at Hershey Park and decided to get some real food on my way home. Stopped in at Kauffman’s and the food was very good. Got a bacon cheese burger and fries. I actually watched her grill it up and it took no time at all. Pie is weak. Got 2 pieces of pie and they were both not good. Lemon sponge had the distinct taste of fridge so it was sitting for a while and did not have flavor. The chocolate moose has wayyyyy to much gelatin and was like jello. Also the«Whipped Cream» was cool whip. I would skip the pies and get the ice cream. At least 10 people has cones of all types of ice cream and seemed to be loving it. I can see that this place gets really busy during peak times but when I went early in the season it was very chill and not busy.

I would have given it four stars, but the sandwiches we got were on store bought hotdog buns. Cool place. Giant Chicken. Miniature golf. Outdoor picnic tables. Lake near by. Good place to watch gliders being carried up from the airport on the north side of 78 to the blue sky’s above. Easy on/off of 78. Food was decent and a step above what I imagine a small down BBQ joint would be. Tasty meats and normal to good French fries. They get points for the yam sticks which are like motzarella sticks, but filled with puréed yam instead; a little on the sweet side for me, but my Dad liked them. White birch beer was the drink of choice and it was basically clear birch beer. Check out the pics.

Can I say just wow and double wow. This place is great. Came up this way to go baja racing and found this gem thanks to Unilocal. They are famous for their chicken and boy are they. It’s a must but it doesn’t stop with the chicken I got the baked potato, coleslaw and all you can eat salad bar all for 7.95. You would easily spend 20 for this meal in Philly. Get here early, there is an actual amusement park style line to get in. Tell them TJ sent ya :)

I love this place! I came to PA on vacation and this place is just tucked away in the middle of nowhere. The parking lot is large so parking is not a problem. Once you walk in, the ice cream window is on the left and the dining menu is on the wall written in a large font. You walk through the door and it’s a cafeteria style restaurant. I ordered the BBQ chicken(white meat), stuffing, and corn. It also includes with a salad bar. This meal was about 7 to 8 dollars, that’s a great deal! The miniature golf course is an 18 hole course on the side of the restaurant. The course is ordinary, nothing special. The one thing that did bother me was the smell of manure in the air. I guess that just comes with the charm of being next to a working farm :) The lake was really pretty, it had 2 swans swimming around and beautiful trees in the background across the lake. I wish I took a picture. Whenever I do go back to PA, I would love to come back here!

Visited Kauffman’s BBQ based solely on word-of-mouth. It turned out to be pretty nice. it sits on the edge of a family farm, where there is a restaurant, a take out ice cream section, and 18 hole mini-golf course and a pavilion rental area. There was a large lake closeby, as well as a huge chicken statue. We ordered the BBQ Chicken platter for aprx 7.00, one piece of chicken, mashed potatoes or fries, cole slaw or pepper cabbage, and a roll. Since it was a hot summer day, we got some ice cream, a three scoop dish of mint chocolate chip for 3.50. I’d stop back if I was in the area.
