My fave is their Pumpkin!!! They have the best Ice Cream ever!!! I told a recent Colorado transplant and she didn’t believe me. Told me that a farm had the best. I sent her son home with some pumpkin ice cream. She called the next day to admit that Dr Mikes makes the best ice cream!!! Chocolate lace and rich chocolate and strawberry are wonderful too.

The best ice cream ever!!! Just wanted to give a shout out to the 2 idiots in the black BMW with New York plates… it was so nice of you to order 30 bucks worth of ice cream and not tip your server! She worked really hard for you and did an amazing job! Keepin it classy NY way to go! By the way I threw her a few extra dollars to make up for your rudeness.

Awesome peanut butter ice cream with huge chunks of pb cups. The chocolate lace is weird very crunchy and the fresh whipped cream is delish but a little heavy. Def an indulgence.

I’m not really sure why other people rave about this place. Yes, it is charming and cute in a nice little town. Yes, the girls that work there are sweet and helpful, and kindly offered us as many tastes as we wanted. The problem is, the ice cream is bland. We tried the chocolate lace. Blah. The don’t use any vanilla in the ice cream base, and it really hampers the flavor. We also tried the walnut Nutella, something with coconut, and the rich chocolate. Only the rich chocolate was decent, so my wife and I split a cup of it with peanut sauce and fresh whipped cream(no vanilla in this either, and it could’ve used it). We came away unimpressed. I’ve been waiting more than ten years to try this place, so at least I was able to cross it off the list. I would rate it dead last of every ice cream place I’ve tried in Connecticut, far behind Ashley’s and Wentworth’s. I really wanted to like this place, but it didn’t work out. I guess we need to see other people. To the person who thought that this rivaled Berthillon in Paris, I want whatever you’re smoking.

Chocolate lace is everything. If you didn’t come here as a field trip, you never lived your childhood. Although they are scooping way less than they used to!

Called this location to find out when they were closing they said 8pm, get there at 7:20 only I find the door locked. When we knocked the assoc. ignored us. So I tried talking to her & she gave me the worst attitude saying she decided to close early. Will not be returning for this service.

Wow! This was the most dense, most rich ice cream I have ever had. I loved the tiny space and the flavor offering are many. Something for every ice cream lover from the traditional to the more complex. I had the chocolate, as it was recommended to me, and I was much impressed. I enjoyed reading the article hanging inside about how they make their ice cream. I suggest you check it out if you’re there. It includes a recipe if you want to recreate Dr. Mike’s ice cream at home. He gets a special consistency of ultra heavy cream from local farms so in order to get the fat content you need to use butter in the homemade version. BUTTER. In Ice Cream. Amazing. PASS

Cute shop. Limited offering. Gooey, gummy texture was not preferable. So so flavor. It’s ok but I have had much much better and in a state with so many ice cream shops offering house made delicacies, this one doesn’t measure up to the hype. If there’s no line give it a try, otherwise, it’s not worth the wait.

My wife, daughter, and I just happened upon this place while looking for an ice cream shop. Their portions are more than generous, the staff is helpful, and the ice cream is AMAZING. I’d say the only down side is that it is a cash-only business. We were lucky that we happened to have cash that day.

One of the many shops that give Bethel it’s charm. The ice cream is rich and delicious and quite unique. Service is friendly and the patrons are usually pleasant to be around, luckily as the shop is very tiny and when they’re open, quite crowded. It has the romance of a nice Maine or Cape Cod ice cream shop, even though it’s in the back of a multipurpose business house. We enjoy our visits. Wish they had more flavors and prices were a little lower. After receiving our orders it’s pleasant to climb onto a picnic table and chat and indulge in the frozen treat. Or, do a little window shopping on Greenwood Ave. while trying to keep up with the melting treasure before painting your knuckles with dairy goodness. One big hitch, the hours have gotten very limited in recent years. 90pct of our visits in he last three years have ended in failure with the staff in closing mode, pushing us to other destinations. Hope they can keep up with what has become a hot ice cream market in the region. They’re a nice part of our local community, a community that really enjoys ice cream.

My girlfriend and I have toured some of the most highly rated ice cream shops around the state as part of our«get out and drive» summer. We started with Arethusa Dairy in Bantam, then Buttonwood Farm in Griswold, and Tulmeadow Farm in Simsbury. While Dr. Mike’s was extremely creamy and rich, it didn’t have much flavor, and there were only eight middle of the road flavors to choose from. Arethusa has limited flavor options as well, but the flavors they do have AND the significantly larger portion sizes makes it a much better bang for the buck. Of all the places we’ve stopped — many not even noteworthy — Tulmeadow Farm clearly hits the highest note for both creaminess and insane flavor. Their Red Raspberry Chocolate Chip is the most delicious ice cream I’ve ever tasted, and their Salted Carmel is a close second.

You’ve never heard me say this but I wish there were more stars available. This is the best ice cream hands down I’ve had anywhere on the globe. The only possible contender, but different style, is on that little island in the middle of Paris. But they don’t offer heaping mounds of freshly whipped cream! Omg, that is the most decadent, luscious cream ever. And you can buy that separately too. Chocolate lace is my fave and I generally don’t veer from it. But you can’t go wrong with any choice. Malted milk yesterday was nice too. Love love love this place. Check it out in Newtown or in Monroe. Definitely a perk of being in Connecticut.

Dr. MIke’s is, to me, like a «Field of Dreams» — if you make it, they will come. And I’m glad that after decades of success, the business didn’t spread out and get to a point where it became necessary to start cutting corners to stay profitable. You can count the number of ingredients in some of their flavors on one hand. They have some of the best vanilla ice cream I’ve ever had. It’s also probably the densest ice cream I’ve ever had. It’s a bit of a drive for me to get here, so it’s either a special treat or a mandatory stop when visiting friends in the area.

Hidden behind a dental office is Dr. Mike’s — Bethel’s best-kept ice cream secret. This is my treat every time I am in Bethel. The Chocolate Lace and Cream is amazing! It is so rich and creamy and freshly made. It has a smooth texture; just the right amount of sweet and the chocolate lace just melts in your mouth. Really worth the trip and service is always friendly. Packed quarts or more are available too. Bring Cash!

the fact that your reading this instead of eating a scoop of Dr. Mikes Chocolate Lace is really sad. You should put your phone/computer/internetthingofthefuture down and go get some. And since you’ll be in my town go get a burger at The Sycamore. You can grab me one and drop it by to say thank you. :)

Dr. Mike just nails fruit ice cream. I’m partial to richer flavors usually but this place masters the art of fruit ice cream. I had peach ice cream here probably 8 years ago that I still remember. The pumpkin, oreo and rich chocolate are also great, but you really can’t go wrong. Be forewarned: Most flavors melt more quickly than you’re probably used to, but that’s because it’s real. It’s the essence of homemade — a clear reminder of what you’re missing when you buy the stuff from the store.

Very creamy, smooth, decadent ice cream dense w great consistency & a broad variety of flavors like strawberry cheese cake, chocolate lace, peanut butter cup, coconut, & other staples. Toppings: peanuts, Heathbar, gummie things, hot fudge, peanut butter, & marshmallow. Cones(dipped in chocolate too) or cup. Ample servings too. Can have really long lines but worth waiting to truly satisfy your craving! Private parking lot.

Dr. Mike’s is some of the best ice cream in connecticut. REALLY. It’s this tiny little place, around back in the parking lot. look for the signs. if it’s hot out there is usually a line — it’s definitely worth the wait. if you like chocolate, go for the super rich chocolate ice cream. also the Chocolate Lace is unique… MMMMmmmm summer is here and the time is right.(the time is always right for ice cream — and i think they are open year round!)
