Scott Home Inspection

We had our home inspected by Scott (Tod, I believe) and unfortunately there were some pretty significant things that were missed. Most notably, the entire crown on our chinmey needs to be replaced. The pictures in the report clearly showed this, and when I got on the roof just a few months after purchasing the home, I could obviously see the concrete was cracked and brick showing through. He didn’t even make mention of this in the report. Additionally, he told us our «fireplace» flue needed a cap, however the flue he was referring to was clearly for our furnace. We also had some issues with our wood burning fireplace insert, and while I realize an expert in chimney services is the best way to go, I think there were some obvious issues he missed (I mean, if I can do a simple google search and learn about «slammers», then professional inspectors should at least have the knowlege to look at it and let you know to get a professional chimney inspector in to evaluate). I was happy with our inspection at first, but after a year of living in the home and discovering things I think he should have addressed, I’m sad to have to give a poor review. I’d be warry if you are referred to this company by your realtor — we didn’t do our proper research as first time buyers, but we know now!

I had my home inspection done yesterday by Todd, he was awesome. Quick and efficient, after the inspection he explained everything well and was pleased to have my business. Excellent customer service, showed up slightly early, which I thought was great, very nice guy.

I’ve owned 5 homes in Colorado and am about to buy #6. I’ve worked with several home inspectors over the past 24 years, but have found dealing with Scott’s to be the best experience yet.
Luke Griess did the inspection on the townhouse I’m about to purchase in Ft. Collins. His experience and work were top notch. He took the time to show and explain everything he was doing to me as he went along, and answered my questions easily.
Pros:
Their employees are all very friendly and knowledgable.
They are quick to respond to emails and phone calls.
Their prices are very competitive with other local inspectors.
They offer the most complete lineup of inspections services, except for Chinese drywall, but that is easy enough to look for on one’s own, just look it up on the web.
Their website was very easy to navigate and was the most comprehensive I’ve ever seen, including samples of the Inspection Agreement and Inspection Report.
Their inspectors are well trained and some specialize beyond the basics.
They went out of their way to accommodate my tight inspection schedule.
The inspector was on time, within 10 minutes of our scheduled time, which could have been traffic related at the time of day mine was scheduled, but I didn’t ask and wasn’t concerned.
Was able to go over the findings and photos immediately following the inspection and ask any question at that time — an excellent policy.
The report was ready to read only a few hours later, and accessible online to download too. That’s a sustainable option to getting a paper copy, but they will send you one if you want or need it.
They take all major credit cards and checks as payment.
Cons: only the one…
Would like to see them include, in the basic inspection, the easy way of inspecting for Chinese drywall, namely looking for copper wire and copper pipe blackening where it’s easily viewed and accessible, such as in the basement around the water heater and furnace, and behind the wall outlets and/​or switch plates in every room.
Would I recommend this company to anyone?
Absolutely!

Normally, I don’t waste my time writing about non-​edible businesses. But these guys are awesome, and they deserve all the stars you can eat. Even though you can’t eat a home inspection.
I mean, I tried: I gnawed on that radon test monitor like crazy, but it didn’t really do much for me.
We’re first-​time homebuyers (a.k.a. completely clueless, slightly paranoid idiots), and our realtor recommended that we call Scott for an inspection. And because we’re completely clueless, my fiancé and I peppered our poor inspector, Todd, with a bazillion dumb questions, most of which weren’t necessarily related to his core job of inspecting our home for major defects.
And Todd was amazing – we learned a ton from him over the course of our two hour inspection. He was phenomenally thorough, incredibly friendly, and wonderfully willing to educate us on absolutely everything. He’s a great guy, and I felt infinitely better about our purchase after having him look through everything.
For bonus points, Todd used a pretty slick phone-​based system that allowed us to see the inspection report highlights before the inspection was over. A week after the inspection, we had a question about the radon test, and the owner (George Scott) took the time to thoroughly answer our email within about 10 minutes. And co-​owner Ann Scott went out of her way to accommodate us when we scheduled the inspection on just a few days’ notice.
This company is run by unbelievably nice, thorough people, and that makes me happy… even if that radon monitor really didn’t taste very good.

If you are buying a house use this service. My husband and I have purchased 6 houses in our real estates careers and were absolutely impressed with Mr. Scott’s services. He discusses the report with you, adds color pictures to his report, and even has the report available via Internet for a period of time. He mailed us a copy of the thorough report and made some recommendations to us as the buyer. Very helpful and highly recommended.
