Thousand Oaks Art Gallery

The gallery moved from its spot on Colusa around the corner and down a couple of blocks on Solano. I’ve been wanting to check out its new location and today I had the opportunity. I was heading for Oaks Jewelers and found a parking space right in from of the gallery, so I stopped in on my way back to the car. Since my initial review I did return and bought a lovely photograph of a post covered w/​ladybugs. There are many tempting pieces, but so far I have resisted the call.
The new space is a bit larger and as nicely laid out as the original. There’s a photography gallery upstairs which I didn’t check out, and many striking photos displayed downstairs, as well as jewelry, wooden bowls, ceramics and a nice variety of other pieces of art. Their friendly little dog was on a leash, but was eager to say hello to an obvious dog lover. I spoke w/​one of the gallery owners, who confirmed there is more walk-​in traffic on Solano. They have a «Rent-​to-​Own» program to encourage people to make their first art purchases, which I think is a wonderful idea, as that is how I bought my first piece of original art when I was in my mid 20s. I wish them well in their new digs.

I walked by the window and a beautiful pearl ring caught my attention. Being the person who normally sets a budget and then sticks to it, I didn’t go in, but continued on my way. Over the next few hours, I couldn’t forget the ring. On the way back to my car, I just had to check the price, and eventually left with the ring. Unfortunately it was a little too big and dug into the side of my finger — luckily, they also accept returns within 30 days.
Hopefully I’ll need a nice gift for someone soon and will have an excuse to come back!

More people should know about this place. The space is gorgeous and peaceful, and the offerings (photography, ceramics and jewelry) are exquisite. The owners/​artists (and their precious bichon frise) are warm and welcoming. Had I more time I would have stayed an hour to soak in the vibe and browse more carefully, but will be visiting frequently.

I’ve only been in here a few times, but this shop is beautiful. Well laid out and very pleasant to be in.
