History

Established in 2004.

There are few real estate agents in the country that specifically focus on serving the needs of people dealing with disability. Seeing this gap, Stephen Beard started this business in June 2004 with the Keller Williams Realty brokerage. Over the years, Mr. Beard has established a strong presence in the disability and real estate communities in the East Bay. In 2010, Mr. Beard became affiliated with Better Homes & Gardens Mason-​McDuffie Real Estate.

Our clientele consist of all types of buyers and sellers, but we specialize in providing real estate services for people with disabilities.

I have Cerebral Palsy, which affects my gait. I have first-​hand experience dealing with some of the limitations and fears that make the home buying process stressful for people with disabilities.

Our clients are confident in the knowledge that they are working with Realtors who know what makes homes accessible and where to find accessible homes in our area. We are also a resource for our clients on issues around special financing, government benefits and their impact on home ownership, local community supports, and custom home renovations.

We are committed to giving back to the disability community. I myself am the Chairperson of the City of Oakland Mayors Commission on Persons with Disabilities, and am a member of the Alameda County Developmental Disabilities Planning and Advisory Council.

We had the pleasure of having Stephen Beard as our realtor when we bought our first home in the summer of 2015. Our circumstances were difficult since we had been asked to leave our rented apartment and had very short time to find a new home. To make matters worse it was a very ‘hot’ market with no room for error on the buyer’s side. Amazingly, we managed to find a house and close in a little more than a month. We know that he is an accessibility expert, but we did not need that aspect.
Stephen is a true capacity in the process/​art/​strategy of home buying. He knows practically everything there is to know and shares his knowledge readily. He was extraordinary helpful and devoted whole days to showing us houses since he knew we were under time pressure.
He answered phone calls and emails promptly, often within the hour, and gave us invaluable tips, without which we would either not have gotten the house or paid much more for it (in particular in relation to the various inspections while in escrow). In addition he recommended us top-​notch mortgage brokers and inspection services that made the entire process much smoother. Last, but not least, Stephen is a very fun and interesting person to spend time with, which counts for something in a personal process such as finding a home.
In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend Stephen Beard as realtor and if I ever have to buy a home again I would use him without any reservation.

I made the best choice in having Stephen list my home. I met Stephen through his housing seminars for people with disabilities. His work in helping people living with disabilities buy their own homes is amazing. I wanted information for my adult son who is living with a disability to be able to have his own home. Although right now it was not the time for my son, I decide it was time to make changes in my life, one being sell my house.
Stephen worked closely with me in preparing my house to go on the market. He was always available and most importantly was honest about my house’s market appeal and what I could realistically expect .
Selling a house you have lived and raised your children in can be emotionally difficult; Stephen was very patient and supportive.
I was very happy with the price I received for my house!
I would highly recommend Stephen! When it is the right time for my son to buy his own home I will be calling Stephen again.

I strongly recommend Stephen Beard for anyone wanting to purchase a property and would like someone who pays attention to all the details, brings the patience to explain the specifics, and has the discipline and experience to drive the process to closure. Stephen helped my son to purchase his first condo in Oakland in the Fall of 2013. My son’s low income status made this process particularly challenging and required three independent loans. Through his knowledge, experience and uncompromising trustworthiness and reliability, Stephen made his magic work and got the process finished in time!

He has excellent interpersonal skills and is very astute about what is going on.
