History

Established in 1985.

I have been installing tiles since 1980 and a licensed contractor since 1985. I have a fine arts background and utilize that training in the designing, layout and installation of jobs. I originally trained under a master tile setter who «taught me his tricks» and from there went off and started my own business.

I have been in the tile & stone business since 1980 and am considered a seasoned journeyman who likes quality workmanship and enjoys the satisfaction of seeing the smile on a client’s face when they are happy with the results. I also have an active painting practice – having remodeled a structure in the backyard as an art studio. My paintings have had direct relationship to tile setting and mosaics in particular. The paintings can be seen at bruce​freed​man​.net. I still enjoy installing tile myself although I have a trusted crew of tile setters working with me.

This company is really good!
Owner Bruce Freedman of Tessera Tile & Stone installed the tile in our upstairs bathroom and a separate shower area off the master bedroom. It was a relatively small job, but had its challenges. The spaces were tight to work in, and we had chosen a mixture of glazed and matte tiles, not realizing how challenging it would be to achieve the floating, «random» effect we had in mind. Thanks to Freedman and his crew, Bero and Hassan, the results are magical.
Bruce advised us on the proportions of glazed to unglazed surface, and Bero created a rough template, which he creatively adjusted as work progressed. The desired effect required an artist’s eye and some careful and creative finessing. The crew’s prep work was beautifully done. The mortar bed, for instance, was a work of art – and no one will see it! Everything was done on schedule, as well.
What a pleasure it was watching skilled craftsmen give shape to an idea and to work with a company that provided such fine service and support. Tessera Tile & Stone is priced somewhat on the higher end, but so worth it. We’ll enjoy these spaces for years to come.
