If your expecting fast food for a sandwich then this would probably be a good choice to go.

Subway is always good… place is cute small space only about 10people can fit here I think… nice corner location. Had to minus star due to cleanness it’s too dirty inside in my opinion it’s a small place no need to be dirty should be easy fast clean up.

Cheap food, but nothing really special and the service is ok. I come here if I am running late and don’t have time to make my own breakfast or lunch. I am not sure about the freshness of some of their veggies though.

I am here to set the record straight! This Subway location is good! It was empty when my friend and I ate here. The subs were tasty, and the chocolate chip cookies JUST came out of the oven. They were hot and soft. All you Unilocalers out there who gave this location negative reviews are so full of yourselves! You pretend to be some mature foodie. You’re not a true food connoisseur. Get off your high horse and appreciate the wonderful food of Subway. Thanks :)

YOUCALLTHISPLACE A SUBWAY?! We got some nice BOGO subway coupons in the mail and decided to go get some sandwiches! Unfortunately our sandwich quest was doomed. The service is incredibly bad. The two workers there spoke in tiny quiet voices and could barely speak English. We def could not understand them. We present the coupons and he spends 5 minutes reading it, then instead of giving us a free sandwich, he thought it was a free drink and charged us for both! We corrected him and he spend another 10 minutes fixing it. Ordering two sandwiches took almost 15 minutes(with nobody else in line). I almost gave it two stars because he couldn’t figure out the cash register so we got a free drink by accident. Then I tried the green tea and it was nasty, so I went back to the one star. The ONE positive thing about this subway is that they aren’t skimpy with the napkins. They gave us 3 each instead of the normal 1 dinky one. Good job on the napkins, they worked to clean up your sandwich mess!

Holy cannoli! Are you serious? My sandwich was the flattest and saddest piece of bread and lettuce I have EVER seen. The bread wasn’t even good! It was dry and chewy. The vegetables are already sliced translucently thin, yet they sprinkle them on ever so sparingly. The only reason why they’re still in business is because the workers are THAT stingy. A bag of onions probably lasts them the entire year. Even Joey from Friends would refuse their sandwiches. Ridiculous!

Guy making sandwich was previously eating his own sandwich with his gloves on. Never took them off to make my sandwich. When I asked for spinach he put the bag over the fresh tomatoes. Lettuce was brown. He’s now in front of me eating a sandwich with the same freakin’ gloves on!

Woah Breakfast combo plus chips for $ 4.44! Came with drink and a breakfast sandwich. The tomato could have been fresher though.

Worst subway and the workers are vegetable nazis. How are you gonna put only 3 pickles and 3 cucumbers on a footlong sandwich? I won’t come back here

Not sure why they only have 2 ½ stars??? Come on people it’s Subway. They make it your way, so am not sure why there is a need to down them. And $ 5.00 foot longs; need I say more? The staff is pretty decent considering they probably only make minimum wage. Who would want to work there anyway? Am pretty sure Subway is a Franchise. This one does pretty good since it’s in a prime location and it is always busy. This place is literally across the street from my job. I frequent it alone at least once a week. It’s super clean. You can’t go wrong for a cheap, hearty meal.

This place is definitely more spacious and welcoming than the one on Bancroft(south side of campus) because it has more seating. Because it’s on Shattuck and close to Shattuck, lots of people who aren’t students come here, so you’ll see elderly, homeless, and high schoolers here. The workers are pretty nice, and they have plenty of gift cards on hand! :)

THEYHIDETHEGREENPEPPERS! This review is very similar to the one I wrote about the Subway on University, because both locations cheat the customer on ingredients. I have had problems here several times over the last 3 years, and it finally got so frustrating I have to write this complaint. This store consistently cheats on the amount of veggies are put on my sub to ridiculous levels. This most recent time, the worker put on literally two pieces of FINELYGRATED green peppers on my sub, something I’ve never seen at a Subway before. When I asked them to put more on, the server sprinkled literally only two pieces more on. They individually counted and put 5 pieces of olives on my sub. Also, I ordered a veggie pizza with my sub. When I paid my order, I was handed a cheese pizza(with no veggies). At this point, I was so frustrated I didn’t even bother telling her she got it wrong. I just left. I just don’t understand, why claim to selling subs if you are going to con the customer into INDIVUALLY counting out pieces of veggies as you place them sparsely on the sub. It is embarrassing for everybody. I didn’t even ask for cheese or condiments on my sub, so you could at least have put on a normal level of veggies as the Bancroft Ave location does. Saving a few cents on veggies is not worth losing a customer for life. I am pretty sure the owner instructs the workers to make subs like this because she was standing right next to the worker.

The worst Subway, ever. I walk over a mile away to a different Subway, just to avoid the bad service and food at this one. They also do not generally accept coupons from Subway giveaways. Just plain awful.

Almost ate there once but when they said they were going to charge me extra to put spinach on my VEGGIE sandwich –after they barely put anything else on the sandwich – I walked out — –the place looked grungy and I have never been at a subway that charges extra for spincach so figured it wasn’t worth my while.

I enjoy Subway, but this is not a good Subway. Here’s what to expect: — less meat on your sandwich than normal — ugly sandwhich(not sure why?) — fewer veggies — strangely yellow colored tomatoes — too small to fit lunchtime lines — charge for refills — limited seating

Absolutely terrible!!! Went in because its close to the bart station and I was on my way home. There were two workers, one that was hanging out by the entrance smoking and talking on her cellphone really loud. I began to order and the worker making the sandwich seem to have no clue what I was saying or how to make the sandwich so he constantly had to ask the smoking girl what to do… either that or she barked at him what he was doing wrong. All of the veggies looked terrible which was bad for me because I was getting a veggie delight with solely veggies on it and nothing else. I only get: lettuce(got about a half a hanful) spinach(got about three pieces and they charged me 25cents for it! WTF?! I’ve eaten at Subways~not this one~for years and never was I charged for spinach!) tomato(got two discolored pieces) green bell pepper(got a few strands) pickle(got about 3 chips) olives(got maybe 4 at most) I tried to ask for extra olives and just got this stare, like«you want to be charged extra for that»… I was told that they are taught to only put that many pieces… well seeing as there was no meat cheese or anything else whatsoever on my sandwich, that feels like a ripoff! Surely, what 345 more pieces of olive can’t cost as much as the cheese or condiments that I wasn’t getting. Finally, the total is like $ 3.40 including tax? At the other subway down the street(bancroft & telegraph) it was less than $ 3! Not a big, sure, being only a few bucks but for what is basically a piece of flat bread with a minuscule ammount of near rotten veggies on it, thats asking a lot! To top it off they looked pissed that I didn’t put money in their tip jar. As if! So never ever ever again will I be back! 25cents for spinach? xD sorry can’t get over it…

It’s a Subway. What do you folks expect? I just go for a $ 5 Italian footlong. No, it’s not amazing. No, It’s not the best sub evah! It’s just some food to keep me going after playing Squash. I just wish that they were a little less stingy on the coldcuts portions. Sometimes, local teens come here and annoy the hell out of the customers and the workers. It’s happened twice, so I guess it’s not out of the ordinary.

This is my least-favorite Subway in Berkeley. I remember it used to be better, so I blame the owner – there was a management change around the time the quality went down. The vegetables are not so fresh(not that Subway vegetables are ever fabulous, but the one on Bancroft always has better tomatoes), and they really skimp on them: I think the owner has specifically told workers that they must never give more than two paper-thin cucumber slices per sandwich. They charge extra for spinach, for some reason, and they hide it away so you can’t even tell if they have it in stock. The workers are always nice, but they could stand to be better-trained: they haven’t worked out the most efficient ways to divide up their tasks, so customers are often left waiting around for no good reason, and I’ve sometimes been overcharged(I got the impression it was accidental, but it was just about impossible to communicate why the price was wrong and have it fixed). It’s boiling hot inside this store; I don’t know how the workers stand it. It seems like a violation of employment codes, it’s so bad on some days. If there was another Subway close to my house I would abandon this one, but rats! I still want their cheap sandwiches!

So, reviewing this place seems a bit like kicking a dog, but damn is this place bad. And I am talking bad compared to other Subways in the Berkeley area. The ingredients just don’t look fresh at all, in fact it all looks quite… I dunno… dead? The lettuce, the tomatoes, the peppers all look somewhat discolored and borderline gross. Oh and the heat in there is ridiculous. I noticed the thermostat next to the register flashing«94.» That can’t be good.

Jen S: You smell like onions and you have mustard on your chin. Amy’s Brain: Bonus! She usually tells me I smell like a baby prostitute AND she noticed the mustard! The above may or may not be true… At any rate, the service was fine but the bread was squishy and stale and the vegetables were horrible. I’m starting to think more and more that the excellent Subway near my house is anomalous. If this were the first Subway I had ever been to… I would never go to another one. …and why was it SO hot in there?! Bleh!
