These people sell the most expensive shoes, but refuse to stand behind them.
Made the mistake of buying a second pair of shoes from these people. First pair fell apart, second pair they refuse to take back.

Tried calling them during their posted business hours… closed. Tried emailing them several times… no response, make that, many times… no response. They are a shame or cons. AVOID!!!

The SALES PEOPLE there need to be helpful only in finding you the shoes in your size and then find something else to do! The overpowering lady there definitely should take a «mellow pill» and let you ponder over whether or not the shoes feel comfortable, or whether or not you want to pay the price or whatever instead of hounding you with constant chit chat. She thinks she’s being helpful but she’s annoying!!!

My loving wife got me a pair of high top work shoes here for Christmas. They are comfortable and seem to be well constructed. Out of the box I noticed that the tongue on one of the shoes lays over to one side (as if it was sewn on crooked) but, being leather, I thought it might break in and even out. Every time I put them on I pull the tongue over to the other side before I lace up and within an hour or two it will migrate over to the other side and leave part of my sock exposed behind the laces. I don’t have this problem with other shoes and it does not seem like a $ 500 shoe should have this issue. I went into the store and talked with one of the sales persons who said she would check in with the company rep. I got a timely call back from her a few days later and she informed me that the rep thought this was normal. How can he know if the tongue was not sewn on crooked if he doesn’t even look at it?
Mephisto, If your going to charge $ 500 for a shoe it better be an awesome product and you have to follow up on your sales hype and stand behind your product. Very disappointed.

STAY AWAY FROM HERE: Ray sold me a pair of shoes that he said were to be worn barefoot. I bought them home after walking around in the store with the shoes on. When I got home, i wore medical shoe covers IN my home, and after about 30 minutes a blister started on my ankle. I went back to show Ray. He said that he would exchange for another pair. They would not accept a RETURN ON THE SAME SHOE that they were willing to exchange. They are desperate because they have terrible customer service. My shoe was unworn — like new which is why they were going to do an exchange. They could resale the shoe or they would not offer to do an exchange. I highly recommend that you buy your shoes from a store with a better return policy which is pro for the customer. This place is awful. They will say anything to sell the shoe. Beware.

So bad!!! Don’t go here! Mephisto makes great shoes but the customer service here sucks! I went to return a 200 pair of sandals. I had only worn them 3 months and they where very torn. I was very polite to the horrible sales manager. I had to leave the store because I felt threatened. Of I was the OWNER of this store I would fire that woman on the spot.
On a side note. Ray the sales rep was great and Mephisto makes a good product in general.

I own 11 pairs of Mephistos. They are wonderful walking shoes EXCEPT the fact that Mephisto does not stand behind its product! The soles of one of my pairs melted in places. Soles of $ 300 shoes should not melt!
I returned them to Mephisto and received a standard form letter back with the shoes with a box checked that read: «Unfortunately the sole for your Mephisto refurbishment is no longer available, and regretfully there is no sole to offer as a replacement option. Your shoes are being returned.»
I called Customer Service and the woman said she was sorry that they could not help me! This is not acceptable from a company that says it values its customers and that it stands behind its product! It does not!
Their motto should be,“Consumer be damned!”

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! This business engages in very problematic practices. I bought $ 250 hiking boots there because I was told we could have them repaired and resoled as part of the cost (there were three of us there — we all remember these exact words). When I went in to Mephisto get the shoes resoled today, I was first told that in fact I would have to pay and THEN told that «this type of shoe can’t be resoled». When I complained, the manager was then incredibly rude to my wife. Then, after we left the store, she (unbelievably) called and harassed my mother, whose name was on file because she shops there often — or should I say «shopped» there. Wow. My friends, go to REI.

I have had the best luck here for finding great shoes. Actually found a larger size Mephisto loafer on the sale rack but did not like the color. The nice older salesperson said it came in a darker brown, had them try it on for size, ordered it in the preferred color and shipped it. Have never seen this shoe online or any where else. Very classy shoe and have received many compliments on them. Bought some simple black sandals here too. My experience with the service and product was very good.

I corresponded with the President of the company a number of times but he was unwilling to give me a refund even after explaining the lies told to me by his sales person.

Lousy customer service. This upscale, up-​price shoe store specializes in Mephisto shoes for women and men. Needing good arch support, I purchased two pairs of sandals — I questioned the salesman (store manager) about the size, thinking they were too long. He assured me that he had 40 years in the business and that they were the correct size. I purchased the shoes and over the next two weeks, tripped three times, and fell once. I am an arthritic kneed, 71-​year old woman, and cannot afford a fall. I went to another shoe shop specializing in orthopedic shoes — first thing the store owner said to me about my Mephistos: «those shoes are too long for you. Take them back where you bought them.» So I did. The store manager was adamant — the shoes were just right, the other shoe guy wrong, I just needed to get used to the shoes, etc., etc. I calmly stated that they did not work for me and wanted either a smaller size or a refund. He informed me that no other sandals were available until next February (it was July), and that my shoes were just fine. A later check of their website indicated that the sandals are indeed available, both there and through other sources, at lower prices, incidently. Anyway, the manager ended up practically yelling at me as I left the store. I am now stuck with two pair of expensive Mehphisto sandals which do not fit properly
This man (the store manager) was arrogant and extremely rude to me. He seems to have no sense of customer service. Several other people have confirmed my experience. My final word: DO NOT SHOP AT INGE’S FOOTWEAR in Berkeley!

I recently shopped at this store and want to comment on my experience. The salesperson I dealt with was very high pressure. When I didn’t give in to his tactics he became less than cordial. I subsequently did some research and found out that prices at this store are twenty to twenty five percent above suggested retail price. The exact same shoes can be purchased elsewhere for a lot less with a much more generous return policy. That explains why they need to use high pressure sales tactics. Of course, I will not be going back to this store.

The short version: This place has some serious issues to work out among its salespeople. Seems like a pretty dysfunctional family.
The long version: The first guy I talked to was very good: informative, courteous, patient. And he offered me 20% off a shoe that wasn’t ostensibly on sale. (Guess they have a high profit margin.) When I told him I wanted to talk to my doctor about the pros and cons of the MBTs (the funky rocking shoes), he was pretty polite for someone convinced he’d lost a sale.
But then things get weird. The manager suddenly jumps in and barks, «I’d have sold him those shoes for 30% off!» Ten minutes later, after a pretty weird rant from the manager about what a great salesman the manager is, and how I’m a fool to talk to my doctor before spending hundreds of dollars on shoes with supposed health benefits, he backs down to 20%. Uh, yeah. That was the price when I decided to leave the first time. Glad he’s not my manager, geez.
But, true to my word, I sleep on it and come back today. The first guy is gone, but a saleswoman finds the shoes he set aside for me. The 20% discount, though? She vents a whole bunch about how he didn’t write a note, he’s put her in a difficult situation, etc. She eventually agrees to the discount but backs off of his promise that I could try them around the house and return them. The manager is there but apparently doesn’t remember the conversation. Not the deal I was looking for, so I go – after politely reassuring her several times that I didn’t hold it against her. Even so, she tells the customer next to me, «I can’t have customers telling me the price of shoes!» Classy. But at least she didn’t try to steal her coworker’s sale.
Bottom line: I tried to support a local business rather than save a huge amount of money by using Zappo’s to buy these same shoes. These guys blew it with their strange in-​fighting.

This is a review about the service in this shoe store. They probably have other staff who are customer-​friendly, but the owners need to do something about the salesman that we encountered recently. He was snooty and unhelpful, to put it mildly.
The store was having a sale with shoes set out on tables by size. One style caught my eye and I went to try it on, next to the table. First the salesman told me, from halfway across the store, how to put the shoe on (not joking). Then he pushed me to try the mate. When I said I was still deciding about the shoe, he somehow took that as his cue to whip the shoe off my foot as I stood there. Truly, his attitude was like, «you may leave now.» (My pedicure was a week old, but I think it still looked pretty good — ha ha!) When my friend asked about the comfort features of another style, this salesman acted like it was so tiresome to give out information to customers.
This is not a great way to get people to buy expensive shoes from your store when any of them can be purchased online or from other retailers.

There is a mystique about really good comfort walking shoes. Once you spend the money, you are on the road to foot heaven. In November I bought a pair of the Mephisto Match shoes, and they are getting better each time I wear them. So last week I went back to get a second pair. I understand it is important to rotate your shoes and allow them to dry out from the persperation at least 36 hours. The Ecco shoes I used to wear have changed the materials used to make them and they do not feel as good as they used to.
I got my 2^nd pair of Match shoes, but I also tried on the new MBT rocker shoe. MBT calls it the «anti shoe». It felt wierd because of the soft heel, but I think I could get used to it. Didn’t buy them, but the MBTs are on my shoe radar.
The service here is off the charts good. You get your feet measured. Both feet. They put the shoes on and take them off your feet. I was pampered. I think the last time my feet were measured was at least 20 years ago. Five stars for the old school service.

I was looking for shoes for my daughter and was browsing their clearance shoes on the sidewalk. A sales guy came up to me and said they don’t carry shoes for kids as it would be too cost prohibitive. He really really wanted me to buy something for myself though.
Since I had a cold (and am still fighting it!) I was in no mood to try on shoes. They did look super comfy though and since I inherited my mom’s buniony feet, I would shell out anything for comfort.
The weird thing? He kept trying to convince my husband and me to drive to Target «just a couple exits off of 80» to buy shoes for our daughter. It was off-​putting to say the least. Just lemme alone okay! I’m not feeling well! Stop telling me to go to Target!

Wasting time waiting for the restaurants to open, I meandered among the 4^th street shops yesterday. I walked by Mephisto. Now I’m not someone who buys expensive clothes. In fact, I usually hate clothes shopping. But we’ve been travelling to hot places, I just got a toe ring at a street air, and my current cheapo sandals come up too far the foot, so no toe ring visible. They’re also going to fall apart any minute. During our recent cruise, my $ 25 dollars camouflage sandals self destructed and only about an inch of the sole was still attached to the rest. So I needed sandals. This shoe store had some. I went in. The staff was very friendly. I told them what I was looking for and they showed me some on sale. Great! I found a pair immediately. The manager was assisting me, knew my size from looking at my foot. He brought out the other shoe plus the same pair in another color. They felt great. Now I had to decide which color I preferred. Then I happened to ask the price. Damn! On sale for about $ 180, down from a little over $ 300. I told him I’d pick out one pair. He then offered a further discount if I bought both. At $ 170 a pop, I accepted. Expensive but these will last. And as others have noted, you can get them resoled.

The sales people here are nice. However, all the shoes look like stuff my grandma would wear. And they’re all expensive to boot (store average must be over $ 200 for a pair).

I made the mistake of packing my comfy Sketchers for my month long honeymoon in Europe. After the first 72 hours of walking around all day, my feet were dying. I’d heard of Mephisto before and figured since I was actually in Paris, I’d give them a shot.
I have to say, these are hands down the most comfortable walking shoes I’ve ever owned (My Crocks are cute and all, but we’re talking some serious walking here). The rest of the trip I was street hiking all over Paris, Barcelona, and Southern France; my feet felt great. I still wear them all the time, and 3 years later they’re still in great shape. In fact, I just got complemented on my stylish shoes a few days ago.
The bad news: in my eyes, they’re not half as stylish as some of the other designer offerings out there, and their prices are just as high, if not higher. As far as I’m concerned, for shoes this comfortable, price is irrelevant (almost).
