Description

Specialties

I specialize in quilting and quilt restoration.

I will finish your quilt tops, or design, build, quilt and bind your quilt, if you don’t sew. Use those special t-shirts, kids’ clothing, athletic or team sports shirts to make a T-shirt quilt that will be used. Or, use a loved one’s clothes to make a memory quilt.

If you have a quilt that needs some loving care to bring it back it’s former beauty, I will treat it with the respect that it deserves. I have restored quilts that date from the 1840’s to recent ones that have had «accidents.» I will let you know whether I think that it is worth fixing a quilt and will not work on a quilt that I feel is too far gone, just to get the job. In those instances I may suggest that the quilt be replicated, or just be loved the way it is.

Whatever the project, large or small, I am committed to providing excellent service and will do my best to please my clients.

NOTE: Open by appointment during listed business hours and weekends, if necessary.

History

Established in 1995.

I started my business: Madelin C. Wolf, when a friend asked me to make a quilt for her. I had always sewn and done needlework since childhood and had been quilting for some time. I thought, «I can do this!» At the time I was only doing hand quilting. Since then I have added to my skills and also machine quilt on a bernina or on an industrial long arm.

When asked if I could repair a quilt from the late 1800’s, I used my needlework skills to restore the quilt. One third of the patches had shredded due to being washed in a washing machine. I have restored patchwork, appliqué and crazy quilts and always try to make my work invisible. Sometimes I’ve had a hard time finding my own work to show my clients.

Started as a home business, then sharing a space, I now have my own studio. I also teach quilting to small groups or one-on-one. Recently I created a blog about my life, my business and all things quilt-related.

Meet the Business Owner

Madelin W.

Business Owner

I have always been an artist. I have always loved to work with my hands. What I do in my business is both art and craft. I have an art degree from UC Berkeley. I apply what I learned about color and space to the medium of fabric. My heritage supplies my love of hand work and fabrics. My Mother and Grandmother were well-versed in the needle arts, which they passed on to me. Attention to detail is of prime importance to me. I was taught, if it is not right, do it over.

Balancing family and business has gotten easier now that all my children are grown. I have more time for some of my own projects, although I don’t think I will ever use up my fabric stash.
