M&M Thread Salon

I walked into a nice, clean and friendly atmosphere. The young lady at the desk was very nice and she was the only one there. She asked me to sit down and as I was sitting I noticed they had witch hazel on the counter. I told her I’m very allergic to witch hazel. She said ok. She then threaded my eyebrows. When she was done she spraid something on a cotton ball and I assumed it wasn’t the witch hazel because A. I told her i was very allergic and B. the witch hazel bottle wasn’t a spray bottle. Immediately as she put it on I had a reaction. I asked her, is that witch hazel in the spray bottle? She replied «yes, witch hazel.» I told her «Remember I told you before that I’m highly allergic to witch hazel.» She apologized and offered me 20% off. After I tipped her I had saved $ 2. I’m very upset with this situation. My eyes are super red, bumpy and puffy! I ended up having to get medication to stop the allergic reaction from getting worse! I’m super bummed cause I read all the reviews and it seemed like a super legit place. She should have not charged me and offered me something. They are extremely lucky I’m a chill chick cause I could have went off!!!

I just met a very nice lady today at the M&M Thread Salon, her name is Reema and she did an excellent job with my eyebrows. She was very professional, personable and her hand was very light that made the whole experience great! I definitely recommended to everyone to go see Reema for your threading needs. Thank you Reema!

This place isnt bad if you are in for just a clean-​up, but it’s definitely not the the place if you are coming in to get it shaped to your own personal preference. The past 2 times I came here the ladies never did a great job of shaping my eyebrows to the way I want them to be (I even brought in pictures of what my brows used to look like to show them exactly what I want), but both times they have failed to achieve it.

My first visit wasn’t terrible, but I definitely don’t think I got the five-​star experience that most people get, which might mostly be due to the fact that Reema wasn’t there when I went.
I came by during regular business hours on a weekday. The lighted «Open» sign was on, but when I tried to go in, the door was locked. Weird. So I called the phone number, and there was no answer. There was an answer when I called a second time ten minutes later, during which I asked if they were open and had to tell her that the door was locked.
When I was able to go in, Reema wasn’t there as far as I could tell, and it was a younger woman that helped me. The actual threading that she did wasn’t unpleasant, but I didn’t get a brow/​eye massage nor any advice about shaping/​growing my brows that many others have mentioned. I also had some stray hairs that were missed, so I ended up plucking them at home.
It was only $ 10, but I don’t think I’d be back unless Reema was available.

I’ve been getting my eyebrows done at M&M for years and I’ve never had any issues. The staff is friendly and efficient. They take direction well but you do have to be very clear as English is not the first language for most of the staff. If you’re getting your eyebrows they give you a mini aloe massage (varying in length and quality depending on who is there) when you’re done! I gave the fifth star for how cheap the service is — $ 10 for eyebrows (w/​o tip).

«Gentle eyebrow threading» is absolutely on point. I’ve had my eyebrows threaded many times and by far this was the least painless. It was also quick! Good place to go in between class gaps if you are a Cal student. The lady who threaded my eyebrows also had a gentle mannerism. I will return!

Reema is fantastic! She shaped my eyebrows to look natural with a nice arch. Her massage afterwards is a nice touch.

Came in for the first time, and Reema graciously took care of me. It surprised me that I felt little to no pain as she threaded my brows. I was set on feeling pain none came! Reema is very considerate and friendly. She will definitely take care of you and your threading needs.
The best part: she gave me advice on my thinning brows. Can’t wait to try the concoction. Solid, careful, and inexpensive. Will come back again!

Some friends wanted to get our eyebrows threaded for the first time, so we looked for a place with a 5-​star rating — the convenience of location-​distance was a plus. M&M Thread Salon (2432 Durant Ave., Berkeley) entailed both!
The salon has an new, refreshing, & elegant feel to it. There’s a water dispenser inside beside a clean looking sofa with some magazines laid out for customers to look at while you wait. This makes the place feel more welcoming and less intimidating for some First-​Timers. There’s a somewhat large gap between the salon seats and the waiting area, but friends are also welcome to sit on a closer sofa by the person getting their eyebrows done, that way you’re not super far from each other and can still chit-​chat!

Reema was very sweet and, after asking if we were First-​Timers, was very reassuring of the work that she’d do on our eyebrows. When we asked if we could get a closer look at her threading, she waved us over to sit on the sofa by the salon seats and was more than happy to let us stand by her and observe how our friend was being threaded. Although I wasn’t orginally planning to get my eyebrows done, I decided to put my name down after seeing my friend go through Reema’s threading. Reema will tell you that it’s supposed to be a pain-​free experience, and to speak up if you feel uncomfortable. (However, for First-​Timers, there will be some slight discomfort — nothing unbearable). I spoke up once about the discomfort, and she responded & reacted immediately. It was still SLIGHTLY uncomfortable (as it normally would be), but I was able to close my eyes and relax through the rest. After Reema was done with one of my eyebrows, she let me sit up to approve it, which I did, then continued on to clean and slightly shape them (as I requested!). I felt myself slightly panic when I realized she was trimming my eyebrows with scissors, but that was only because I didn’t expect scissors to come into play; the final product was flawless. As I had hoped, my eyebrows still looked the same, but better. No outlandish results, just clean, dark, sleek, and on point! As First-​Timers, my friends and I had a pleasant overall experience and were happy that we found Reema at M&M Salon.
*Note: If you are a First-​Timer that found M&M on Unilocal,Reema will politely drill you for a Unilocal review. However, it’s totally fine that she does because she is well-​deserving of a 5-​star review :)

I have been going to M&M (MLK) for about 3 years now because they do a pretty good job with my eyebrows. However, Reema did an exceptional job with my eyebrows last week. I love that she took her time (the others finish really fast) and was extremely gentle. I hardly even felt anything when she threaded my eyebrows. I had a great conversation with her and she is just a super sweet and kind person. Not only did my eyebrows look great but I enjoyed the process because she continued to talk to and made me feel really comfortable!
I definitely recommend her to everyone! I will most certainly be back so we can finish the conversation we had! Thanks Reema!!!

Got my brows threaded for the first time ever in my life and it was amazing. I always tend to pluck myself or get them waxed but my friend highly recommended I try threading so I did. Reema did my brows and she was so nice and made my experience go so well. She’s extremely detail-​oriented and made sure that my needs were met and that my entire brow area was clean. She finished with aloe and a nice brow/​eye massage. She also gave me tips on growing out my brows! I had a great experience and I will definitely be coming back to see her.

I got recommend this place by a lot of friends and decided to give it a try myself. I enjoyed my experience at M&M more than any threading experience I’ve ever had. I got my eyebrows done with the best Reema, who was super sweet and gentle with my eyebrows. I barely felt any pain and Reema took her time with my eyebrows in order to better shape my face. Thanks Reema :) The atmosphere at M&M is so welcoming, unlike other beauty parlors in the area.
Reema also converses with you which makes the experience pleasant and not rushed at all.

Came here to get my Eyebrows threaded. It was super quick and painless! The lady was very friendly and chatted a little bit so it wasn’t awkward. I liked my brows, and this place is pretty affordable. Next time my bushy brows start to grow, I will be back for a thread! =]

Came here for my first eyebrow threading in the Bay Area. The store is neat and nicely kept. I was greeted right away when I entered. Mrs. Randi was absolutely the best! She was quick, friendly, and.professional. I’m usually really sensitive and always leave with tear-​soaked Kleenex after threadings, but my eyes barely watered! It was truly the gentlest eyebrow job I’ve ever gotten. She nicely shaped my bushy brow while kept them natural looking, and offers a aloe massage afterwards.
The best part was that I walked with my friend to crepes a go go before coming here. When I walked past by the place afterwards, she hasn’t gotten her crêpe yet! It was super speedy!

I’ve been a loyal customer to M&M for many years, and I always get the memberships every three months. I was so excited to hear that they opened a location by campus, which has saved me a lot time! This is, however, my first review for M&M because I’m a very busy college student and I only write reviews if I absolutely feel the need to. That being said, I feel like I need to write a review for Reema’s phenomenal service!
I must say that throughout all of my visits to both M&M locations, Durant and MLK, I have never had service that has been as exceptional as the one I just received from Reema. This is why I decided to write my first review for M&M. Reema is very warm and sweet, and she seems to love interacting with her customers. Plus, I was so happy to hear to that speaks Bengali because that is my native tongue and I never get to speak it with anyone. I didn’t even feel the treading, which is normally a painful experience for me, but I think that’s because she was so gentle and she kept me busy by making me laugh the whole time. I can tell by the conversations that I had with her that she is a genuine person who really loves to see people happy, and that is apparent from the way she treats her customers.
I feel like I lucked out by meeting her on a day that she normally doesn’t work, and now I will make sure to request her every time I visit! I’m so happy with the service, and I love the way my eyebrows turned out. I’m not saying this just saying this because she was such a nice person either! This is by far the best eyebrow job I have gotten in the Bay Area! The shape is just the way I like it, and she cleaned it up so nice that I don’t even think I’ll need to apply any makeup to them.

I’ve been to the M&M on M.L.K. a few times and was so excited to see that they opened up another shop on Durant near campus. The service is always great but today I was lucky and got to meet REEMA! I’ve been getting my eyebrows threaded for years and have never had an experience better than today. She is friendly and sweet and did a FANTASTIC job on my eyebrows! She took her time to make sure I got what I wanted and it didn’t hurt one bit. This was a personal first for me (I have super thick hair lol). Also the aloe massage at the end was just tops. If you’re new to threading or just picky (like me) when it cones to your eyebrows definitely request Reema :). I will definitely be going back to her.
P. S. Their new shop is also super cute :)

Reema does not rush, so make sure you spare some time when you go here. I liked that it was gentle and not as painful compared to other places. She wants to practice her English, so she does put in effort to make conversation, as I believe she’s been in the U.S. for about a month now. She shows and asks if you like how your eyebrow looks, so make sure you tell her what you want. It was good — I liked it.
An interesting side note is that she told me that they actually wax facial hair for males, but I haven’t tried it yet. Most places would not do that for men.
The place is just starting off, so they’re running a 20% discount. I paid $ 8.00, and they accepted my credit card, which is a huge plus for me.

I’ve just come from visiting the new Durant M&M location which has been open now for 3 weeks. I was a regular at the MLK location but am walking distance from this one, so love the convenience. Reema did my brows & she was amazing! She listened as I talked her through my wants & made suggestions which I appreciated. She also gave me fantastic beauty tips. I love the care involved, the cotton balls, aloe brow massage. Feels great. Both gals here are super friendly.

I’ve never gotten my eyebrows threaded. I went in two days ago (Monday) and I wasn’t nervous but I was doubtful since this would be my first time and I know they just moved here a few weeks ago and I have to say, I had great service! Reema is a sweet heart and she did SUCH a beautiful job on my brows. She didn’t take off too much and she framed them VERY nicely. It was PAINLESS and very gentle! I also loved the mini massage she gave me on my eyebrows and temples. Felt great!
Anyway, I will be going here to get my brows threaded and will definitely try future services as well. Come here! And can’t beat the price! $ 8.00!
Just bring cash because since they are starting up, they don’t have the debit/​credit card machinery yet.
