Specialties

Luna Dance Institute (LDI) is the most comprehensive dance education organization on the west coast. We serve children, families, dance artists, educators, schools and organizations through a variety of programs aimed at increasing access to dance for all. Our rigorous approach emphasizes creativity, collaboration, and composition. LDI’s programs include Professional Learning, providing education and support to all who teach dance; Studio Laboratory, the Bay Area’s only choreography-based program for children and teens; School and Community Alliances (SCA), supporting schools in our home community to build standards-based dance programs; Moving Parents and Children Together (MPACT), providing parent-child dance classes to families in Alameda County and the child welfare system, and Building Cultures of Dance, offering consulting to districts, organizations, schools and teachers throughout the country. Based out of Berkeley’s Aquatic Park, we strive to bring ALL children to dance.

History

Established in 1992.

Luna Dance Institute, established in 1992, aims to bring creativity, equity and community to EVERY child’s life through the art of dance. Luna uses active inquiry to deepen the learning experience of children and adults, improve teaching practice and build high quality arts programs. As we bring all children to dance, we develop future leaders, choreographers and visionaries.

Each year, Luna brings dance to approximately 20,000 children and 300 or more artists, teachers, and social service providers. In 20 years we have grown from a local children’s dance program to a nationally recognized dance education organization, providing services to children and the adults who impact their lives — parents, teachers, social service providers, dancers, and artists.
