Always a wonderful experience at King Dong. My husband and I have been coming here quite frequently since we discovered them 7 months ago. Pretty cheap prices for plentiful portions and delicious food. 5 stars for non-gourmet Chinese food. Definitely recommend.

Food took over an hour for delivery. They overcharged us by $ 6.00 and everything was ice cold and tasted horrible! The driver asked for cash as he did not have his phone charged to take a credit card payment. No plates, cutlery or chop sticks were provided even though they said that they would be included in the order. They even forgot the fortune cookies! We threw out the food as even the teenagers wouldn’t eat it…

This is a go-to takeout place for me. I’ve never eaten in, but it seems nice enough. The prices and portions are great. Really good Hot and Sour Soup, as well. Four stars only because I’ve certainly been able to find better Chinese food in the Bay Area. Always satisfies and usually provides some leftovers as well!

Best Chinese food in the neighborhood. The pricing is very good as well. And they deliver quickly. This is my go to Chinese spot up here in Berkeley!

After dance class, my friend was craving some sizzling rice soup so we decided to check out this place. They served us quickly with some salad and hot and sour soup. We ordered sizzling rice soup, garlic chicken extra spicy, and shrimp chow mein. The prices are pretty reasonable. We were talking and mentioned that we don’t like msg in our food and our server heard us and told us that they do use msg so he went to tell the kitchen that we didn’t want msg in our food. The food came out quickly and piping hot but my friend was disappointed as her food was bland. The broth in the sizzling rice soup had no flavor and she wasn’t too happy with the garlic chicken. It wasn’t spicy enough to her. I thought my shrimp chow fun was A-ok if you have a craving for shrimp chow fun.

I’ve been here several times since my first review, mainly because of a friend who loves the place. Though I have not tried the egg Foo yung again, the food is considerably better eating in. But what really got me to do this upgrade was the tofu sweet and sour chicken. It was the best tofu chicken I’ve ever had. The prices are still good, and there’s no up charge for brown rice. Score.

Very respectable, given what it is: this is quick, cheap, delivery-style Chinese food. There are a few odd things(my beef chow fun was a bit greasy, even for that dish, and for some unknowable reason they put tomatoes and peas in their egg flower soup). But overall it’s reliable, tasty, American Chinese. I’ve gotten delivery(which was very fast) and sit-down — both experiences were good. What bumps it from a 3-star to 4-star review is the portions for the price, especially if you eat-in. $ 5 for eight pieces of foil-wrapped chicken? That’s a great deal. And the soup is practically a tureen.

The food here was pretty authentic but just didn’t have the taste to match. The plates were decently sized and priced, but everything was just simply average here. Don’t expect the greatest of service here, but that wasn’t the main issue.

Barely makes it into the four star category but flavors were good, service was fast, menu extensive, and an overall very good experience. They pay attention to vegans and vegetarians for the very largest part, and I enjoyed the meal very much. Prices are fair, and it made me happy.

King Dong has been on my list of places to try in Berkeley as I search for good Chinese food places. I was promptly seated when I entered, handed a menu, and while I was perusing the menu, a waiter brought me a bowl of hot and sour soup, a bowl of fresh iceberg salad, a pot of hot tea and a glass of water. I decided on the sweet and sour fish from the lunch menu. There was a big helping of fish and white rice. I was worried that the fish would taste frozen but it didn’t have that taste. I would order it again. The dish was filling and definitely a good value. The only downside was there may have been some type of non-fish bone part way through my dish. The plate was definitely sweet with a few pieces of canned pineapples. The service quick and this place is definitively a place for take out. While sitting by the door, at least 7 people came through for pick up during the lunch hour with calls coming in pretty frequently. I definitely will try other dishes from here to hopefully raise them a star. For now, a solid 3.5.

An Ode to King Dong Chicken King Dong Chicken is the best chicken. Allow me to expound: King Dong Chicken has all the sweetness and delicious batter-fried satisfaction of Sweet & Sour Chicken, or perennial favorite, Lemom Chicken [sic], but with two key differences: 1: Instead of little morsels of chicken individually battered and fried, you get a full boneless chicken breast that is battered, fried, and then sliced. This provides moist, perfectly cooked chicken, and also solves the too-much-batter not-enough-chicken conundrum that plagues the aforementioned options. 2: King Dong Chicken introduces SPICY to the already tempting mix of sweet, sour, salty, and fried. When all of these flavors combine forces, they become something greater – they become King Dong Chicken. It’s entirely possible to take lunch-orders for the whole office and end up with 6 orders of King Dong Chicken, and one order of assorted vegetables to share.(The lunch specials are lacking in the vegetable department). The King Dong Chicken lunch special includes steamed rice, a small cup of hot-and-sour-soup, a fried wonton noodle, and a fortune cookie, all for $ 5.50, with free delivery for orders over $ 15. This makes it one of the best lunch deals in the neighborhood, and one of my office’s go-to choices.

Definitely my favorite Chinese restaurant in the area. It’s not gourmet, but it’s certainly cheap and cheerful. Dinners are between $ 6 – 9, and are huge portions. They generally include soup, spring roll, rice, and hot tea. They’re quick, always friendly, and you can definitely tell its family run. I order general’s shrimp, which is not actually something on the menu but they always make it anyway when asked. The décor isn’t great, but it works, and for the price, it’s hard to complain.

I ordered the Family Combo B for two people. The combo had potstickers, hot & sour soup, some beef plate and shrimp and veggie plate along with a lot of steamed rice. All only for $ 22!!! King Dong is very generous in their portions; it was enough to feed 3 – 4 people! The food was delicious. If you’re looking for Chinese take-out, this is the go-to place! Food was ready in 15 minutes. I feel like other reviewers were comparing King Dong with other gourmet Chinese restaurants. This place is not«gourmet» but still satisfies your Chinese take-out cravings. Chinese food is all about competitive prices and HUGE portions, relative to the quality of the food, and you’ll definitely get your money’s worth at King Dong! Yay! ^.^

Found this place on the way to a Cal basketball game. Had some Shrimp Fried rice, which was very good. I liked that it wasn’t so greasy. Orange chicken, had a crunch to the chicken and the sauce was perfect, sweet. Kung Pao 3 combo which was shrimp, chicken and beef. Flavor was good and spicy. Servings were good size. Good spot to stop if in the area of Berkeley.

Okay, so i’m reviewing the first and second time of my «visits» at King Dong. First and foremost, the fried rice is absolutely amazing. It’s fresh, not greasy, and there is literally no MSG which is always good. We constantly get our orders delivered to our job as this is our fave chinese place to go to! Everything is always amazing and we are never let down. They are always prompt, especially with the big orders we request from them. I never go elsewhere, as they haven’t disappointed me and my coworkers and when I say coworkers I’m talking all of Fast Response! They know us pretty well as we’ve been ordering delivery at least once a week. The food is always hot and fresh and they always seem to throw us a little something extra(spring rolls) when we order $ 50 or more. JOBWELLDONETOTHECHEFANDSTAFF and the delivery who gets amazing tips from us :) Thank you so much from the Fast Response staff! You are amazeballs!

I’d give 0 stars if I could. Sunday night, on my way home from a camping trip, I bought an order of potstickers for take-out around 8 pm. I didn’t realize they weren’t cooked properly until I woke up at 2:30 am retching my guts out, and proceeded to have a killer fever for the next 20 hours. I’ve never had food poisoning in my life until I ate from King Dong. I wouldn’t wish that sickness on my worst enemy. Never, ever coming back here again.

Came here thinking that it was cheap Chinese food. However, the price is mediocre and the portions are really small. Food also tastes either super bland or really salty, even Panda Express tastes better. Restaurant is also very dirty and the staff are not helpful. I will never come back here, and I definitely do not recommend this place.

NOTBADFOR A DINGYPLACE! Besides the unkept seats and probably a dirty floor, this place served good Chinese food. Left there wanting to nap. Loved their walnut shrimp and egg flower soup. A must try when you’re feeling under the weather.
