He operated on me, when the test showed that the operation was not going to work with my condition. It was a unnecessary pain that I endured. There was little information given to me about the surgery, the product being used. It should have been a better experience.
I saw another doctor who told me that I should have never had that surgery

My experience with Dr. Floyd has been good.
By way of history, I’m 70, I’ve had BPH for twenty years, and I initially took Cardura, which worked well for several years. But when it no longer worked (about 10 years ago) I opted for a «minimally invasive» TUNA procedure which was done by a urologist in San Francisco — with the understanding that it was not a permanent fix and that another procedure would be needed perhaps in 5 years.
In fact, the improvement lasted 7 years, after which I had a second TUNA (about 3 years ago) by a urologist in Oakland (who is now my regular urologist) — again knowing that the improvement would be temporary, and probably wouldn’t last as long as the first.
Recently, my BPH symptoms again reached the point where I wanted a third TUNA. But because my Oakland urologist no longer had access to the TUNA equipment, he referred me to the Golden Gate Urology Berkeley office which had their own machine — and this is how I met Dr. Floyd.
In addition to TUNA, Dr. Floyd also offers the TUMT procedure — and in the course of three visits (one including an ultrasound exam), he explained the pros and cons of each procedure as well as which procedure made the most sense for me and my goals.
At each visit, Dr. Floyd was generous with his time, and sensitive to my concerns. I also appreciated learning his views and recommendations, and his experience with all the procedures (including the more invasive ones).
Ironically, by the third visit my BPH symptoms had improved (perhaps I had a low-​grade infection that cleared up on its own) — and at present I no longer feel a need for any procedure, at least not right away.
So while I’m not able to comment on Dr. Floyd’s surgical skills, I can say that each visit with him was a positive experience.
Incidentally, as is probably obvious, I’m a fan of TUNA because of its low incidence of adverse effects. It’s not fun, but I’m fine with enduring a few days of wearing a catheter in exchange for a few years of no BPH symptoms.

I can’t tell you whether he’s a good doctor or not but his reception /​scheduling service sucks… I’ll take my business elsewhere.

I have imoderate ntgerstitial cystitis (IC), which is a chronic bladder disorder, and been a patient of Dr. Floyd’s for years. For me, he has been invaluable. The medications he has prescribed have changed my life and I can now live like a normal person. He is busy, you have to ask him questions and be proactive but, in my humble opinion, he knows his stuff and he will take the time to discuss your concerns with you and offer you good and useful advice. Now. On the negative side: his front office can be inefficient. Also, I have to wait in the waiting room for a half hour at least every time I have an appointment. That’s why I’m knocking off a star here.

I must say that I experinced nothing but the best care and attention from Dr. Floyd. I had a prolapsed bladder which he took care of with surgery (a sling was inserted) and have had nothing but the best results. Also my 90 year old father sees him for prostate cancer and he has treated him with the best of care. I find the office and his assistant to be very professional and caring.

I’m not a guy, so I can’t say weather or not he addresses guy problems well. I have a moderate /​advanced case of I.C., and after being thrown out of other urologists’ offices for ‘having too difficult of a case’, I found him. He’s knowledgeable about my condition, listens to what I say, reads the things I write (I make it a point to write down what is causing me strife instead of verbalizing it. They remember longer that way), and agrees with my assessment of my own situation.
I took control of my condition when no other doctor knew what I had, had no experience with such a condition, and had no clue what to do about it. After the fact, I found Dr. Floyd. He told me straight out that everything I was doing for myself was correct and that I was on the correct path. I go see him when I need to swap meds, or if I have questions, and he’s always very helpful.
Maybe I’m just lucky that I don’t have a prostate :)

A UROLOGIST TO AVOID!!!
Dr. Floyd has demonstrated what I consider to be the most dangerous quality in a specialist: A set of preconceived ideas that he refuses to let go of even when all the facts contradict what he thinks he knows. Read as much as you want of my story to get a sense of why you should stay away from this «urologist»…
At my recent appointment, I began by reporting that my doctor had noted, in each of his recent digital rectal exams, that I had an «enlarged prostate,» and that he had assessed it as BPH.
Dr. Floyd immediately dismissed his observations by saying, «You don’t have an enlarged prostate,» and went on to say that he knew this because, «42 year olds just don’t have enlarged prostates.»
Dr. Floyd never did an exam to assess for himself what the facts were. He was just sure that 42 year olds never have enlarged prostates, and so I must not.
I did a little research when I got home, and found that the National Association For Continence states, «The prostate usually remains the same size for many years but may begin growing again, and cause problems by age 40.» Andrew Weil notes, «BPH affects about 10% of men under the age of 40,» and Harvard Health Publications states that, «When a man reaches his 40s, the prostate goes through a second growth spurt,» and suggests the incidence of BPH to be a bit under 10% for men in their 30s-​early 40s.
It gets worse.
Harvard Health Publications cites the following 3 symptoms as being classic symptoms of BPH:
Difficulty starting to urinate
Continuing to dribble after urination
A feeling that you have not completely emptied your bladder
These are the exact 3 symptoms I reported to Dr. Floyd every time I saw him, as being the 3 symptoms I most consistently experience.
Instead he dismissed the idea of BPH and gave me ENABLEX, even though I do not have «urgency,» «leaks,» or «accidents» — the key symptoms that ENABLEX would treat (for an overactive bladder). I looked up ENABLEX, and their web site specifically says, «Do not take ENABLEX if you have trouble emptying your bladder» — which I do.
I pointed all this out to Dr. Floyd in a letter and offered him 10 days to reply to this letter, before I would publish any online reviews, if he wanted to try to explain:
— Why he insisted, with «blind certainty,» that «42 year olds never have enlarged prostates,» when the literature on BPH clearly and consistently disagrees.
— Why he was so certain about the size of an individual’s prostate when he had never conducted a basic exam of his own.
— Why he would be so dismissive of a diagnosis, made by another doctor who has conducted actual exams, that happens to match all the key symptoms the patient is reporting.
Not surprisingly, my letter went unanswered. Dr. Floyd: Not just incompetent, but also a coward.
