i am definitely john legend’s biggest fan, and once i heard about his coming to berkeley, i knew i had to get a hold of some tix! it was honestly the best nite(weather-wise) in the bay area for the concert to be held at the greek theater, an outdoor venue. as i walk in with my best friend, we heard vaughn anthony singing. he happened to sound exactly like his bro JL but i knew something wasn’t right wen he took off his shirt… and exposed a bunch of tattoos on his arms! anywho, he sounded great! up next, india arie… who i wasn’t much of a fan of until this concert! she rocked the shit out of that show and i ended up telling her that wen i met her at the signing that immediately followed her performance!!! seeing her that nite made me want to go see her own tour, she was genuinely great and has the best vocals ive heard in a while. and finally, the main attraction. LEGEND! he started out the show in the middle of the crowd on the floor, with the amazing bob marley classic REDEMPTIONSONG!!! he continued the show featuring india arie for one song, and a special appearance by estelle! it was amazing, i still have not gotten over the excitement of that night! near the end of the show he called up a lady onto the stage and danced with her, damn i still wish that wud’ve been me =/ john legend’s performance was honestly as good as it got. with that sultry voice and the sexy way he used and handled that piano, he was bound to cause some baby making that night! =]

What better way to enjoy a warm Labor Day Sunday evening? The Greek Theatre is one of only a handful of outdoor venues that provides a cozy and intimate atmosphere for an evening of wonderful musicianship. The show started promptly at 7:30 pm with John’s brother Vaughn Anthony, who played a mini-set of four or five songs. He has a nice voice, but it lacks the uniqueness of the following performers. Next was India Arie, who I’ve heard of, but I am unfamiliar with her songs. She proudly and happily announced that this was the last show on their tour together and thanked John for the opportunity. Her emotional and enthusiastic performance was definitely the highlight of the show for me. She explained her music, its background, and, in some cases, its meanings. Several songs sent chills down my body as you sensed her emotions behind her storytelling tunes. Here are some clips: At around 9:20 pm, John Legend appeared IN the audience to start the show, a testament to his confidence in performing among adoring fans. He played most of his songs from the Evolver album as well as his earlier hits. The highlight of his set was his Grammy winning«Ordinary People» which gave the audience an opportunity to exercise our vocal chords. In a day where so much music is synthesized, lip-synched, or just noise, it is a pleasure to enjoy passionate musicians. There was no shortage tonight of musical talent.
