We just concluded a somewhat complicated real estate purchase in Oakland. Joann came highly recommended by my sister, and she was a delight to work with from beginning to end. I needed to find and begin negotiations on a property in a very tight time frame, without a firm idea of what I was looking for, which could have been a disaster, but Joann’s calm presence and resourcefulness carried me through. I lived several hundred miles away, so once I located the right property, all negotiations were carried on by telephone and email. Joann returned every call promptly, followed through on everything that needed to be done, and coordinated several moving parts. She even met with a contractor to go over necessary renovation plans in my absence. She was able to arrange Internet signatures for legal documents, stayed on top of all documents we needed to get from the sellers, and made us feel we were her top priority. Joann has a low-​key style, but is resolute in getting the job done. She was a real pleasure to work with, and I recommend her highly.

Joann is very sharp. To me, this was evident during all parts of the process, beginning to end. For instance, Joann noticed something unusual in the seller’s legal documents, committed herself to correcting it, and ended up saving me some money in closing costs. Not to mention the months of constant emails, phone calls, text messages, and meetings – she’s always on the ball.

Joann Sullivan at Thornwall Properties helped me buy my first home. She was very nice and listened well. She wasn’t patronizing, even though I am young and knew nothing about buying a home. I chose to work with her because of her positive attitude.
However, she was disorganized and didn’t seem sharp. For example– she showed up 30 minutes late to a final walkthrough, and then forgot the key (thereby completely wasting my time). She also often seemed confused, like during the inspection — the inspector would say something, and then she would ask a question that didn’t make sense. I felt very nervous, like she wasn’t watching out for me. She also didn’t give me any information about the homebuyer’s tax, which I would have appreciated.
