Jetton Construction, Inc

We had Bill Jetton do the remodel of our house nine years ago, before there were Unilocal reviews. We are responding now because we became aware of a negative review.
The work on our house was done in a carefully crafted and conscientious fashion, with everyone open to paying close attention to the many unusual materials and details we selected. (One of us is an architect.) Everyone involved was quiet and so concerned with neighborhood harmony that our next-​door neighbors subsequently hired Jetton for a small project. Another neighbor recently told us that he had not even been aware we did anything to the house – for a major project that took over a year.
We’ve had Jetton back numerous times for various minor things. It is pretty amazing how quickly they respond. Nothing less than 5 stars is fair.

Let me start by saying that I have not used Jetton for a construction project. I live across the street from a Jetton project and am writing this review as a neighbor. I am reviewing their project management, noise management, and neighbor management.
Project management: Poor. They take off early on a Friday and then start up with loud disruptive noise the following Saturday morning at 9am. When we have complained they say that they are on a very tight timeline and that it is basically the owners fault. They say that they must work long hours during the week and on Saturdays to get the job done on time.
Noise management: Poor. They started the project with 10 days of extremely loud jackhammering starting at 8am and ending at 6pm (including Saturdays which started at 9am). We have since learned that they were in violation of the city’s noise ordinance. They make no efforts to minimize noise, they will throw large heavy objects into an empty truck at 9am on a Saturday sending waves through the neighborhood that can be heard blocks away, when they could just place the items into the truck. They put the extra generator at street level instead of up on the property so that the noise is incredibly loud. These may seem like little things, but it is summer and I am a stay at home mom and they have made it miserable to be outside. I can even hear them talking (yelling) from 40 feet away.
Neighbor management: Really Poor. We received a form letter notifying us that they were going to be doing construction. There was no schedule, no timeline, really nothing of value. They aren’t friendly, they don’t smile, they don’t say hello. The other day I was up putting my 6 month old baby into the car and one of their workers was moving his truck from one side of the street into the driveway, he did so by slamming on the gas then the break then the gas then the break and screeching and lurching the truck and making awful noises, it was rude and unnecessary. They don’t try and arrange their work to minimize impact to the neighbors. They don’t inform us of anything so it is impossible to plan around their noise. If we have a barbecue, it is hit or miss whether it will be quiet and pleasant or unbearable to be outside. We have limited parking on our street and they don’t seem to try and minimize their impact. We have complained to them twice and they blame the owners and the timeline rather than trying to solve the problems.
In the 15 years I have lived in my home I have done three major construction projects. My contractor has actually made friends with the neighbors and many know him on a first name basis. He was so respectful and careful with the neighbors that he is still years later getting business in the neighborhood. I never received a complaint about him or the noise, rather I have received compliments about the quality work.
Bottom line is that I don’t recommend Jetton and will personally never hire them. They have made us miserable for the last two months and apparently we have four more months to not look forward to. There are lots of conscientious contractors out there, find one and use them, you will be glad that you did.

We had a great experience with Jetton Construction on a major kitchen renovation. We were on an extremely tight schedule — a baby was on the way — and they finished within a week of the original projected date of completion! All of the work is absolute top-​of-​the-​line. Jetton is not an inexpensive contractor, but their work and the work of their subcontractors is worth every penny. It was clear that their company policy was to attend to every detail, no matter how small, and make it perfect. The staff is always responsive and on top of things. The kitchen has since been featured on Remodelista (a design blog).

I hired Jetton Construction to build my family’s pool house last year. It was a big project that involved an interior space with a half bath and kitchenette, as well as a large exterior concrete fireplace and wooden trellis. I’m thrilled with the end result; Jetton’s work is meticulous and thorough. They do NOT take shortcuts. Every construction decision is made to ensure a high quality product. I like that they pay special attention to green building, energy efficiency, and minimal impact on the environment. Through every phase of the project, they were organized and professional. I was always aware of our timeline and budget, and warned well in advance if there would be any changes to either. In addition, Jetton and his colleagues were friendly and respectful of my family at all times. They wanted our lives to be as uninterrupted as possible while they worked; they’d even ask me if the music they were playing was too loud, or if we preferred they work different hours. (This is very different from other construction companies I’ve worked with!) I’m really pleased with the beautiful space they created for us and can’t wait to spend the summer in our new backyard retreat.

Jetton Construction completed a whole-​house remodel for our home in 2008, and we can’t say enough good things about this company. The home is a historic John Hudson Thomas craftsman, and the love and care with which the entire team approached the project was remarkable. Our family was living in Washington, D.C. during the entire project, and the Jetton team made it very easy to collaborate from a distance. Bill and his colleagues have incredibly high standards and their work reflects this. Yet, they are able to deliver the end product at great value. I can’t recommend them highly enough.

We used Jetton to create a sound studio. They indicated that it would be an easy and minor project. Let’s just say the cost estimate ended up being about 50% higher than their initial estimate and the time estimate was 10x longer and the final product was less than satisfactory. We ended up hiring another contractor who completed the job in about 1 week for a fraction of what Jetton was planning to charge us to TRY to mitigate their own errors. Jetton gets one star for being decent people and one star for trying.
