I’ve used Jackson Piano Service many times over the last 5 years. Ruben has tuned and serviced crappy old uprights, beautiful 100 year old pianos, and everything in between. He’s been able to come on short notice as well which is rare and super helpful. Couldn’t recommend this company enough.

Ruben came over to our house to assess our baby grand that looked worse for wear. It came with the house so we had no history about the piano. He took his time and showed me all the wear, signs of stress, good points and bad points. He paid attention to all the details and easily explained the current, past and likely future state of our piano in a way that was very easy for me to understand. Also he can give you advise how to proceed based on what you want from your piano or depending on what your budget is. I can’t imagine finding someone better in the bay. Top notch.

I first called Ruben for some advice when we were considering buying a piano. He was immensely helpful and knowledgeable, and he even went into the shop to check out the piano I had my eye on. Buying a used piano can be tricky, and he really made me feel more confident and informed throughout the process. He gave us his approval, and we were lucky to have him come over to give our new piano its first tuning. It sounds fantastic, and we couldn’t be happier with our choice (in both pianos and technicians)!

Having not played for about 6 years, I neglected my piano and it was horribly out of tune when I decided to play again. I brought in a tuner who recommended some very expensive work on the strings and hammers. After completing the work, I still had a horribly sounding piano and felt uncomfortable about the service/​transaction. I then found Ruben and asked him to tune the piano. He did an outstanding job, and gently pointed out the shoddy (my word — not his) workmanship of the original tuner. I was so appreciative that he took the time to educate me. Ruben was extremely professional with all communications, and absolutely genius with his tuning. I have a beautifully sounding instrument that I can now enjoy. I so wish I’d found him sooner!

A piano was given to my 4 year old daughter a few months back. The piano was old, and definitely needed a tuning. I know very little when it comes to the types of pianos and actual care of. After doing lots of research, I came upon Ruben. Given all of his reviews were good, I was still a little unsure. After one phone call with Ruben, I was fully confident and booked an appointment on the spot. He even gave me helpful hints on how to help preserve the piano’s lifespan.
Morning of the appointment, he was on time and very professional. He was honest about the current state of the piano and all that he could. He gave me his best recommendation, and I followed his advice. He tuned the piano in a timely fashion, and my daughter couldn’t more happy with the way it sounds! He even played a little for her, which made her even more excited about playing her «new» piano!

Ruben was recommended to me by a friend who bought an upright from Ruben for her children to learn on. I enjoyed playing that piano every time I was at their house and when it came time for me to get my own piano, I called Ruben first.
Without intention to make a sale, Ruben took the time over the phone to educate me on such things as how to evaluate a piano’s quality, tone, and if it needs repairs, etc. I was doing my own online research about piano brands and local piano show rooms, and I was really eager to get the best piano for me at the most reasonable price, so I absorbed everything he shared with me. I ended up being tremendously appreciative of his words, as I was then able to better assess the pianos I saw– at one place, I discovered a problem that needed repair on a piano that the seller was highly recommending for me.
I quickly reduced all options down to a beauty that Ruben was reconstructing. It was by far the most aesthetically pleasing piano I saw in my price range, Ruben had taken care of all it’s needed work (and he also responded quickly to follow up work when a pedal began squeaking after the piano was moved into my home), and it had the best sound quality. I realized that local show rooms were charging a lot more for lesser quality pianos– for just over $ 1000, I was repeatedly shown beat up pianos removed from schools near the end of their lives.
Ruben moved the piano himself, and tuned it a few weeks later (after it had settled in and adjusted to the humidity in my home). I continue to count on Ruben for the servicing and tuning of my piano– I trust him and I have no need to find someone else to do the job. Overall, I value that he is professional, is passionate about his instruments, and that he brings a high level of integrity to his craft. I could not be happier with my piano and I am thankful every time I play it!

We recently had a death in the family and I went home to help my mom handle the estate, which included a huge piano. Now, I don’t know the first thing about pianos (i’ve always been partial to the tambourine), but I reached out to my piano-​loving community to see how the hell to get this beast out of my great-​uncles house and over to my moms pad without destroying it in the process. Ruben came highly recommended by a few of my friends, so I gave him and a few of his competitors a call to get a quote. He was the first (and only I should add) who responded, and within a few days the piano was tucked securely in the corner of my mothers home. Ruben also tuned it and replaced some doodads, thingamabobs, and gizmos (industry technical talk for tuning and stuff). I cannot recommend Ruben highly enough. He was super professional, prompt, and friendly. He’s also easy on the eyes and has a great sense of humor, so there’s that, too.

I called Ruben to tune my Yamaha grand after reading the reviews on Unilocal,and I was so glad I did! I’ve had this piano for 25 years and had many different tuners, and it has never sounded this good. He doesn’t just tune every piano exactly the same (yes, there are variations in tuning); he knows how to make your instrument sing. I am really particular about sound, and his tuning is genius. It is great to have someone doing the tuning that approaches it as an artist and not just as something mechanical to fix, although he certainly has those skills as well.

Ruben was recommended to me by a friend after he worked on their Yamaha grand last month, specifically regulation work and tuning.
My piano was a little over-​due for it’s tuning, and after hearing how pleased my friend was with Ruben’s work and hearing and playing her piano for myself, I decided to call him to come see what could be done with mine. I agree with the last reviewer’s comments on the quality of Ruben’s tuning. Ruben also recommended some voicing work while he was here which I agreed to once this was explained to me. The voicing was subtle at first, but became more apparent over the next few days — it has always sounded a bit bright and cold and now it sounds like a different instrument. Thank you Ruben!

I found Ruben on craigslist when I was looking for a piano for my six year old. We had a great experience with him. He does really nice work on his pianos, and they’re affordable (and the price includes delivery). Our piano is great: perfect for the kids to play on, but still has nice sound and action. We’re still in touch with Ruben, who now tunes our piano. He’s meticulous, thorough, and very responsive. All in all, a great experience.

We were looking for our kids’ first piano and found Ruben on Craigslist. Skeptical at first and took us a while to decide who to trust and which piano to buy. We have visited several showrooms. Our budget is very limited, so that pretty much eliminated most piano stores considering they have to pay commissions and store rent. Ruben had listed a couple of piano at the time that fits our budget and requirement. He was very nice on the phone and was very eager to provide information, both good and bad. His place was a little bit out of our way but we are glad we came. He explained a lot of the detailed work he has done with the piano and for the price (which is unbelievably reasonable), we also got a year-​warranty. We are very happy with our new used piano :-) and is looking forward to enjoying it for the years ahead.
