History

Established in 2009.

Hoop Power was established in 2009, a year after Kaye had already been teaching hoop-dance classes in schools, organizations and in small groups. She came up with the name after noticing how empowered students felt by learning something new and fun that would also bring fitness and joy into their lives! Over the past 4 years, Kaye has taught classes and workshops to both adults and children in a variety of settings, and maintains a weekly morning class for adults through the City of Berkeley.

Meet the Business Owner

Kaye A.

Business Owner

My name is Kaye. I’m the founder of and Lead Hooper for Hoop Power, a method of guiding people toward health and happiness through hoop-dance.

A life-long student of music and yoga, and a lover of dance, I discovered hoop-dance in 2007 and fell in love with the soothing, meditative, expressive, and physical aspects of it. A year later, I completed a hoop-dance teacher training through HeroHoops and now share hooping with all ages from my base in the East Bay area. I experience hoop-dance as a practice, with its never ending potential for growth at the heart of the classes I develop for hooping.

I teach hooping to children in schools, at camps, and in after-school programs. My adult classes are at Live Oak Community Center and The Works Studio in Berkely. Other venues are Cazadero Performing Arts Family Camp and Hoop Camp in Santa Cruz, CA.

Combining hooping with 15 years as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), I offer hoop workshops to mental health agencies and community organizations.
