When you need to run some laps, or do some bleachers while getting some sun, this is one of the best options for you around Berkeley. Not many people know about his place, there are never many more than 20 people at a time within the place when there isn’t a event. The track is rubber so it’s good on your knees but be careful on the bleachers, they don’t offer much comfort if you slip or if you miss a step while running them or using them.

NCAAMEN’S SOCCERQUARTERFINAL: MARYLANDVS. CAL Yesterday I came here to watch the game between Maryland and Cal. Even with the track around the field you have a closer view of the field than expected. From the home stand you have a great view of the Campanile and Big C overlooking the stadium. This venue is a nice stadium to watch a college soccer match.

This review is for the track and field itself rather than the facilities. It’s a 400m 8 lane track with lots of grip unlike some other rubber tracks I’ve been on. I honestly still have not found a better track I like to run on. The Bads: 1) Due to Berkeley weather, it can be as late as 10am and there may still be some puddles of water on the track if it was an especially dewey morning or rainy night. 2) Not much shade. Which is normal for an outdoor track. 3) It can be difficult to find the entrance if you’re unfamiliar with it(hint: you have to enter from within the campus, not off the street). The Goods: 1) Free to the public. You know, unless there’s a game or meet going on. But FREE. 2) The track is well maintained and marked. It’s got an extra straightaway section for 100m sprints. The grip is excellent, so much that you really don’t need spikes even for hard 40yard dash sprints and you’re just exercising. If you’re shooting out of blocks maybe you’ll need it, but I’ve always trained here in running flats. 3) There are some pull up bars on the side for more exercises if you want to do a little circuit training. 4) The stairs are also accessible if you want to do stair sprints. 5) The area is just a hundred yards or so from both Downtown Berkeley and Telegraph Rd. 6) Not crowded, ever. 7) The field is well kept. I’ve never tried any of the field apparatuses so can’t comment on that. 8) History. Apparently the last time an American held the mile record it was done here.

Twas cool, was just here working an event during a scrimmage game. They need more entrances open, they also need to ACTUALLY clean their nasty ass fucking bathrooms. NASTY.

This place is very beautiful indeed. I’ve been here a couple of times, twice with Relay for Life, and once for general commencement. Only downfall, is that they don’t have enough women stalls in their restrooms. Last time I was here, two of them had no doors…

A beautiful eight-lane Olympic-class all-weather track that is open to the public year-round. Great for running laps, but especially for running sprints, as the rubberized track is marked for 100m, 200m, and 400m distances. The surrounding concrete stadium steps are 18 inches deep and 20 rows high. Climbing them to the west side gives you a clear view of the Golden Gate. Try running 3×200m sprints, 3×100m sprints, and 10 stadium steps. This track will make you feel like Carl Lewis, even if your waistline says Carl’s Jr.
