Crowden Center for Music in the Community (CCMC) offers after school, weekend, and summer lessons and classes that meet the needs of a growing number of children and adults. An incomparable and vital community resource, CCMC greatly enriches the cultural life of the East Bay. Classes are held under the auspices of The Crowden Music Center, at our centrally located campus in Berkeley, California. Tuition is moderate and some financial aid is available to qualified students.

CCMC serves as a musical «hub» for the Bay Area by:

* Providing the highest quality music education for all ages and levels of ability, while encouraging a life-​long love of music

* Reaching out to children for whom music education would otherwise be unavailable

* Supporting musicians, music teachers, and music institutions with training, affiliate programs, and collaboration in performance

History

Established in 1983.

After watching her young students grow exhausted and overburdened by school, practice, chores, and countless other activities, Scottish violinist Anne Crowden (1928 – 2004) had a vision of a school that would provide a supportive environment for young musicians by incorporating music into the daily curriculum. By 1983, she had founded The Crowden School.

By 1998 Crowden had become a Berkeley institution, and moved into its current location, the historic Jefferson School building in North Berkeley. In 2003, the School incorporated as the Crowden Music Center, the non-​profit home to The Crowden School and the Crowden Center for Music in the Community (CCMC).
