Arnold and Wilson, DDS

I travel from Los Angeles to Oakland to have my dental work done with Dr Arnold. I have always found him to be very professional and skilled in dental care. I highly recommend him.

I’ve been coming here for years and each visit I’m treated with so much respect from the moment I walk in the door I’m greeted by name. Staff are super friendly and are always giving tips on how to take care of my teeth. If your looking for a family friendly dentist this is the place to come.

After my other dentist retired, I found Arnold and Wilson, DDS. I’ve been visiting this office almost 5 years. I have referred my friends here.
The staff is very friendly and professional. The staff goes above and beyond to create a top notch customer experience.
I had a few fillings and bridge procedures done by Arnold and Wilson, DDS. I am consistently impressed by their detailed attention, their focus during a procedure, and kindness throughout. I was amazed when I received a phone call from my doctor the next day after the procedure to check how am I doing. Very caring doctors!
I am so glad I have found this office. Please don’t retire anytime soon! I would love to have my future family come to you guys!

Not professional at all. We have been seeing this dentist for the last 4 years for our 3 kids. We just moved in the south bay and came back from our first visit to our new dentist. We discovered that our kids have issues one of them being an additional tooth growing under others…

The reviews here for Arnold and Wilson kinda blow me away. I’ve been going here for seven years or so, and I literally love them. Dr. Wilson is the most gentle dentist I’ve ever had, and knows her sh*t. I’ve only seen Dr. Arnold once — when Dr. Wilson wasn’t available. He was great, too.
I prefer to go to a dentist who fills little cavities instead of letting them get bigger. Maybe some people think this is a tactic, but I consider it good dental care and appreciate it. I’ve never had a filling fall out.
Also — yes, the office manager can be brusque at first but is a totally sweet woman when you get to know her. I think she has a hard job and does it well.
In short, I hope Dr Happy Tooth stays in business as long as I have teeth. Don’t forget to floss, kids!

So my Dad has been my dentist my entire life, but he’s in the process of reducing his schedule for retirement. I have gone looking for a new enamel grinder, and I decided to try this practice since it was so close to where I lived.
I admit, my teeth aren’t great. I usually need two or three fillings a year. During my initial visit I was told I needed 11 fillings. Say what?! I knew there may have been three or four since my dad said we could wait on filling two cavities… But 11? I gave them the benefit of the doubt since I could see some shadows on the X-​rays.
Since there were sooooo many f’ing cavities, all four quadrants of my mouth needed work. When my treatment plan was designed each quadrant would be a separate visit.
I am very disappointed with two of the three quadrants (stopped at three and had daddy-​o check out the fourth.)
For the upper left side of my mouth, two new cavities were being added and two old fillings were being taken out and replaced. I was in the chair being drilled and stuffed for around an hour. Then when Dr Wilson was trying to correct the surface of my new shiny fillings so that my bite wouldn’t be off kilter, she drilled down the surface of the wrong tooth. Even after I said the bite wasn’t changing, she KEPT ADJUSTING THE WRONG TOOTH. She even joked there wouldn’t be a filling left if we kept adjusting it. GAAHHHH.
I know what you’re thinking, and I agree. I don’t like it when someone tells me how to do my job. HOWEVER if your actions are not having any results, and I have said this to you, and you continue to work as you were, I WILL tell you you are wrong. And when i follow that by asking you to look at the tooth that I think is causing the problem, don’t be rude! For the love of!!!
Also, I was equally frustrated. If I’m paying about 15 working hours of my take home wages for a visit with you, I expect an extra five minutes from you to make sure your work won’t cause problems for me in the future. GAH. ANGRY.
The lower right quadrant was the other problem. I had three new amalgam fillings installed in my three rear teeth. The filling in the tooth that was the furthest forward broke into pieces six and a half months after it was put in my mouth. WTF.
This was the point at which I decided that I wasn’t going back to this practice… But don’t stop reading! More crazy shit below.
I went to my Dad because he would fit me into his schedule. And I was hurting.
So he looked into my mouth, saw the filling that was and agreed that it needed to be replaced.
When he drilled away the remnants of the filling, we could see the tooth next to it. The middle child of the lower right fillings. The middle tooth had multiple accidental drill spots with speckles of amalgam filling dust in the drill spots.
I have crappy enamel already! Why turn it into a colander?
So my dad fixed the broke ass filling, he fixed the surface of the filling that took Dr Wilson fifteen minutes to not fix, and he filled A (read as «a single») «mini-​cavity» (not the THREE listed on the treatment plan for that fourth quadrant) in under 30 minutes.
My point of view may be skewed by my Dad’s dentistry, but it’s not so skewed to not be able to realize bad service when I see it.
The hygienist is great, though.

I’ve been going to Dr. Arnold for years. The staff is pleasant, professional, and the billing is convenient. I enjoy the small talk, and Dr. Arnold always remembers where we left off. He and Gloria have been working together for over 30 years together and it shows. They can finish each other’s sentences, and it’s almost like being worked on by one person with four arms. My son likes it here, and he hates going to the dentist. I recommend this office to friends and anyone looking for a dentist.

I have been coming to this office for years, and have never had a bad experience from anyone here. Dr. Wilson is always warm and friendly, and trickles down to the staff from the soppy at, and everyone involved with this office. I would highly recommend this office to friends or family with no hesitation. Soppy, Esther, & sylvia… also help mAke the office a pleasant experience.

Rude and Incompetent. Dr. Arnold insisted on me getting a permanent crown. After agreeing, he insisted on cutting back part of my gum. He cut off WAY too much and now my Left front tooth looks LONGER than my right front tooth. I quit Dr. Arnold and went to a gum specialist who said he did it completely wrong and that he is not even qualified to do this procedure. I would advise anyone who likes their teeth NOT to go here.

DO NOT GO HERE. — I went here for a teeth cleaning. The receptionist was extremely rude and in a hurry. Then I got my teeth cleaned and they were rough, and shoving things in my mouth despite me being obviously uncomfortable.
my wife also went here and Dr Arnold convinced her that she needed to shave one of her teeth down in order to save it from falling out (!!!). After that she had to go back for a follow up and they told her they needed to CUT a part if the gum out to fit a cap over the tooth. She told them she was not comfortable with doing that and he said «just let me do my job». Her gum ended up swelling up and she went to another dr. Who said they cut way too much gum off and that it was unnecessary.

This is a terrible dental practice. I went to them for two years because I didn’t know any better several years ago. Yesterday, they sent me an email telling me I should refer new clients and get free movie tickets! Thanks for reminding me that you guys exist, I intended to file a complaint with the licensing board several years ago and never got around to it. Maybe this is the year.
These guys are TERRIBLE. They aren’t all that bad in the office, reasonably friendly and appear to be competent — the problem is their work sucks. Before you assume that I just have bad teeth (I do!) I should mention that I started seeing them because two family members were seeing them and I also brought my husband to see them. So four of us were seeing them.
I stopped seeing them the fourth time that the filling that they’d put in (on different teeth) fell out. My sister stopped seeing them after it happened six times on the same tooth. Her husband stopped seeing them after a terrible experience in their office. And my husband stopped seeing them after they told him that they wouldn’t fix the filling that had fallen out of his tooth twice because he had «misaligned teeth that won’t hold fillings».
Everything hurts. During, after, everything. There is no follow-​up, even on relatively serious procedures. And you are blamed for everything that goes wrong. Teeth hurt? Your fault. Filling fell out? Your fault. EVERYTHING is the patient’s fault.
Avoid these people like the plague. There are wonderful dentists out there, keep trying dentists until you find a good one! These folks are like used car salesmen, they’ll sell you a lemon with lots of nice wax and polish on it and then when the engine starts rattling three blocks from the dealership they’ll say «Haha, sucker!»
And yes, I already have a window up with the information on how we can file a complaint with the board. These people should not be practicing.

I wish they would take the time to check their reviews. I was a fan at first because I loved chatting with Dr. Wilson and appreciated her bedside manner. I got a couple of filings done and although they do try, the experience was just okay and I still have doubts about whether they left one of them level enough.
This year, I got to see Dr. Arnold, by mistake thanks to the receptionist, and although he is friendly, and seems competent enough, he may be a bit business driven and will shut you up during his out loud thought process.
Last year, I got to get my teeth cleaned by a real dentist who was excellent and gentle, but she wasn’t there this year. The dental hygienist was okay but not as gentle.
The receptionist then was great too but things have seemed to decline since. Sofie seems out of focus and commits many errors in both setting appointments and summarizing procedures post visit. Sorry guys, but there are enough signs for me to move on before going any further.

My husband and I both go to this place and we both see Dr Wilson. My husband has been coming here for 9+ years and I have been coming since 2008.
The place is clean and the staff is very friendly. They call, email, and send reminder postcards for appointment reminders and confirmations.
They are also open on Saturdays, which makes scheduling pretty easy.
Dr Sylvia and Novin, the hygienists, are very professional and informative.
Dr Wilson is very experienced and very gentle. She was really fast and pain-​free with my filler. She also recommended both my husband and me to get night guards for our TMJs. No more headaches!
They also do digital x-​rays and things are pretty advanced in the office. There are at least 2 parking spots in front of the office and street parking is generally available. The office is also close to the Ashby BART station so going before or after work is very easy for us!
You get $ 50 credit if you refer someone. We are planning to have our children come here as well.

I AM LEAVING THIS PRACTICE!
I started as a solo patient in early 2009 and then my wife joined as well. I don’t have too much negative to say about Dr Arnold who was our primary dentist. He is personable, kind and seems to do a good job. However, we are patients with healthy teeth, so nothing major was needed.
Hygenists are nice, professional especially Dr Sylvia.
The admin/​receptionist/​insurance claim specialist (Sophy Hem) is not professional at all. She botched a claim which was brought to my attention 6 months out of Calendar Year window by which time I couldn’t use my FSA account from that year.
Additionally, when I complained, she said my future appointments won’t be booked until the past claim is settled. And that did it. My excellent credit history with this denistry when I paid promptly thousands of dollars over 3 years was over looked. She has also turned the case over to a collection agency now which I will settle happily knowing that they will only get 10cents for the dollar owed from the collection agency.
I also realized that Dr. Arnold never followed up with me after losing our business. This further tells me that Sophy never appraised him of the whole situation/​truthful picture and he never seemed to care either.
This practice would have continued to earn my family’s business and serve our dental care needs for a long time but this whole episode has left me to move on and find another practice.

I LOVE this place. The staff are friendly and the doctors are WONDERFUL. I actually hug Dr Wilson when I see her. This is my 7^th year as a patient here.
The people who do the teeth cleaning are kind, friendly and professional. I HATE getting my teeth worked on — cleaned even — but I always feel fine when I am here.
I had a few cavities when I first came to Dr Wilson, and she convinced me to start flossing my teeth. Now, I have not had a cavity in YEARS. (Thankfully!). I have only had minor procedures here (cavities, cleaning) but Dr Wendy was very professional, kind and patient (I freak out a bit at the dentist). When a wisdom tooth got infected, she referred me to a dental surgeon who was very good.
The parking lot is a little difficult to get in to, but there is street parking when the lot is full. The ambiance and décor of the facility is nice with art on the wall and lots of magazines to read. The staff are great — they remember things about me and ask about my life even though they have not seen me in 6 months. This is a great dentist. I highly recommend Drs Wilson and Arnold.

Dr. Wilson’s office is getting a bad wrap on some of these reviews. Having just left my biannual cleaning/​annual checkup, allow me to shed some light from my perspective.
As for the one and only Dr. Wilson, talk about a great guy. When I first met him I liked him immediately. He greeted me with a smile and genuinely appeared to care about my health. He will make you feel warm and comfortable immediately.
I am 30 years old and I had two wisdom teeth extracted by Dr. Wilson 2 years ago (on my first visit with him, no less!). As I said, he made me feel comfortable immediately. His assistant was a great help in calming my nerves as well. They administered the nitrous, and when my face started cracking with a gas-​induced smile, both doctor’s smiled at me, and the assistant responded: «you’re getting the giggles huh?» I busted out laughing and she joined me. Talk about calming me down!
After the extraction Dr. Wilson had his desk assistant Sophie keep an eye on me in the lobby, and after 15 – 20 minutes he came out and walked with me to my car to make sure I was sobered up enough to drive.
Somehow I have fond memories of having 2 wisdom teeth pulled, even 2 years later!
I have to comment on Sophie as well, as another reviewer really disparaged her here. Sophie is awesome. She’s super friendly, knowledgeable and prompt. She’s great on the phone when calling with a reminder, and she provides good advice when you’re considering the recommended treatment.
It feels like the whole staff is happy and taken care of.

Because Dr Arnold is so great with kids, my son is not afraid of dentists. And I have seen both Dr Arnold and Dr Wilson and they are both wonderful, engaging people.
The staff is professional, gentle and good with kids. What more could I ask for?
Oh, yeah, they also take dental insurance plans which some other dentists don’t.

My rating for the 2 stars is for the front desk staff. I think the name is shophy. I have been visiting Dr. AW here for 2– years now and there was someone else that was friendly and professional, sorry I don’t remember her name. The hygienist «Sylvia» is great — always makes me comfortable. Dr. Arnold is good too.
I own a company that deals with the public so I’m sensitive to customer service and employee interaction with clients. I teach this to my employees and raise their awareness.
As paying clients, the staff — in this case Shophy needs to show a friendly attitude and not pretend to look busy. Make eye contact with the person standing before you as much as you can when you have conversations.
I’m hoping the proprietors will make the necessary training or adjustments to have their employees in good standing.
After my next visit, I will update my review.

I’ll start out w/​the good:
Wonderful office assistant
Nice office environment, semiprivate rooms, you get seen on time
Awesome dentist (neither Dr. a or w) who was completing her training or something, but left
Nothing stood out about cleanings… always a plus!
Great dental assistant: I put on my information sheet that I was afraid of needles, and she came back and held my arm while I got a shot
They put Ora-​Gel on your gums before you get a shot
What’s missing from the list?
The dentists and the work done by them. Yeah, that.
Dr. Arnold was OK, until the end of the appointment when I asked him if I could get sealants. I’ve been getting them since I was a kid, and I didn’t know that they were just for kids. Oops. Instead of telling me what I just stated, that they’re just for kids, he gave me this horrible attitude. He glared at me and spat out «OK… Now tell me WHY you think that YOU need sealants.» Sort of like: Maybe when you’re done committing welfare fraud and murdering small children, and you whore yourself out for enough money to pay for them, we’ll talk, you sealant-​stealing b****.
And then there’s Dr. Wilson. I think I requested her so I wouldn’t get Dr. Arnold again. A year after I saw the wonder dentist listed in the «What’s good» list, my veneer (that she put on) chipped off. It’s my fault; I grind my teeth. She did a great job w/​the veneer, and it looked like a normal tooth. I didn’t mind paying for another one a year later, so I made the Dr. Wilson appt. She did some work on my tooth (it’s one of my front teeth), and when she was done she even ran some floss through to make sure the veneer wasn’t sticking to my other tooth. I though: Wow, she’s so thorough! I just love this place. I didn’t bother to look at it, until I got to my car. It was so freakish looking; it was sloped downward, like a fang, but it didn’t stop and just looked so weird.
It wasn’t the same as the first veneer, so I chipped it off (and told her I did so, nothing shady here) and asked her to redo it. I told her what I wanted (for my tooth to look normal, not chipped), and she acted like she had no idea what I was talking about. I asked her to look in my record and find out what the previous dentist did.
She tried at this point to talk around me (why? I just want my tooth fixed!):
What do you mean ‘what the other dentist did?‘
And more of the same: (smugly) Your veneer fell out because you have XYZ (a dental term I’ve never heard in all my years of having teeth). It turns out that XYZ means «teeth grinding». Why couldn’t she have said «because you grind your teeth»?
I ended up leaving without it. When they asked if I wanted to schedule my cleaning, I just told them that my insurance was changing and left it at that.
Another thing: I have a horrible, horrible gag reflex (they know this, and have made comments). They wanted to sell me a mouth-​guard (which I needed), and not knowing that there were different types, I just let them take the mold for my upper teeth and came back for it. I couldn’t even wear it! I could barely get it into my mouth w/​out almost throwing up. On my next visit, I told them about it and why I couldn’t wear it, and they (I’m pretty sure it was Dr. Wilson, but Dr. Arnold is the one who ordered it for me) told me that because I had a gag reflex, I was supposed to have it made for my lower teeth. That might have been useful to know before I purchased it! It cost me over $ 200, and my insurance paid about $ 400 for it.
Go elsewhere!
I gave it two stars instead of one because of the nice lady who held my arm while I got a shot, but the dentists are terrible and their work is shoddy.

I was with this dentist office for 3 visits before switching and I’m glad I switched. I had no problem with the hygenist who was friendly and nice but the doctors and nurses were less than friendly. And the billing is terrible. My dental insurance changed between visits and I asked them to update it to the new insurance, even faxing a letter and a copy of the new insurance card. They said no problem but continued to bill the previous company instead, causing me a lot of hassle.
How difficult can it be to throw away my old insurance information and replace it with the new information? Apparently, too difficult for the office staff here.
Also, the filling Mrs. Wilson did came loose a year later and had to be redone by my current dentist. I believe this dental office does shoddy work all the way around and I recommend staying away.
