I had a very positive experience here. Unlike any other auto service place I’ve been to, Washington garage doesn’t put any pressure on you to do extra or unnecessary services. For the first time in my life, I left a garage and paid LESS than I expected. The quality of work as excellent as well. Thanks guys!

These guys are a class act, plain and simple. We’ve been loyal customers ever since I found them a few years ago (on Unilocal,actually), and even though we don’t live anywhere close, I go out of my way to bring my car there whenever it needs attention. As the most recent example of how they value customers for the long run as opposed to going for the quick win, I took our 15-​year-​old SUV in a couple of weeks ago because the Check Engine light was on and the engine was making strange noises at times. Tim examined the car and called me to explain that the two issues were actually unrelated. He had gone ahead and fixed the noise problem for the grand total of $ 49 (an extremely reasonable price!), but for the Check Engine light issue, he explained that because of insufficient information supplied by the on-​board diagnostics, it would be best to hold off until we have more information and know more precisely the source of the problem, rather than throw more money at the problem than might be necessary. I ask you this: how often do you come across a mechanic who talks you into spending LESS money at their garage?
Oh, and I almost forgot! Tim called back this morning, a couple of weeks after I left the shop, to follow up and see if the Check Engine light had come back on! So, they’re not only upstanding, they’re also conscientious! A rare find!
Like I said, because of how they’ve shown time and again their concern for our welfare, we’re loyal customers of theirs, and will continue to be so for the foreseeable future.

Ripped off and lied to! If I had known it was going to be over $ 300 to replace the front brakes I would have gone somewhere else. Two weeks earlier I went there for an oil change. «Not your $ 20 oil change», says Tim. Fine, ok. Justifiable when he said that a certified technician would look at EVERYTHING. It was worth $ 50 or so to me to check out the vehicle and for peace of mind. He even pulled me in the back and showed me everything and answered questions that I had. He had the wheels off (which he didn’t have to do for an oil change obviously but he was probably just looking for something he can make real money on), mentions I need new front brakes soon. I ask him how much and he says $ 150 to $ 200 LABOR AND EVERYTHING (I made sure we were very clear on that). Needless to say I was shocked when I saw the bill. Dealerships charge as much or even less! Remember, he didn’t even touch the rotors. When I look at the bill, I noticed the brakes were $ 110. These were either racing-​quality brakes or extremely marked up. Ridiculous.
I’m warning you, don’t fall for their act! Go to Main Friendly Service down the block. Much more reasonable and honest.

Since living in Jersey, this is my go-​to place for car repair. You can’t help but love and trust these guys! As a woman, I am so appreciative when someone working on my car takes the time to explain to me (in a nice and non-​condescending way) what has happened, what should be done to fix it, and what I should do to keep my car safe and reliable. One time I asked them to rotate my tires, and they said that based on the current wear and tear on the tires I had, I should keep them where they were. How many garages turn down the chance for a couple of bucks? I will continue to come here as long as I live in north Jersey!

I highly recommend these guys. I have been using them for years and they are friendly, honest, and always explain what repairs you need and the alternatives. Most of the time they come in under their quote.

Local good priced fuel.

Washington Garage has a reputation for integrity and effectiveness. I’ve been taking my car there for the past two years. They are consistently more reasonable than their competitors. The staff has a policy of providing a detailed explanation of your car problems and will outline suggested preventative maintenance without trying to up-​sale you.

My family found Washington Garage on the cartalk website, even though I worked right down the block from them in highschool.
My 1994 Isuzu Rodeo needed some regular maintence work but I had a strange gas smell. When Brain looked at my car he called me and explained that my filler neck was rusted and he would get a replacement part. Unfortunately the part is no longer available, Brain then explained clearly and concisely what they could do to fix the problem, with a diagram.
The work was done very quickly and for less than the price quoted. Since the repair is a band-​aid until I can located a replacement part from a junk yard (Isuzu no longer carries the part) he would like to see the vehicle in 2 – 3 months free of charge.
The best part about this garage is that I normally have to claim the vehicle is my father’s to keep mechanics from trying to sell me more work than I need. Brain on the other hand, spent twenty minutes talking about different cars with me as if I was a man. Any women should free like they are in great hands with the Shanahan Brothers.
Since that time all the work done on my car was done in this garage. They are wonderful hard working mean and are always willing to go above and beyond the call of duty.
