Had a family dinner here. This place was recommended from a family friend. First thing we noticed when we went there was that it was a bit small. Like 6 – 7 tables of 12. But then we were guided through the restaurant and into an outside extension of the restaurant. There were a lot of empty reserved tables inside and outside when we were there, but the waitress rudely rejected our request to get the inside tables. We understand but don’t be rude about it. The extension was the outside of the building where the rain tent is and it was turned into an extension by adding a glass perimeter. Lucky it was not open to the outside or we would’ve been frozen to death cause it was snowing. Three heaters were used to keep the extension warm. We had to eat with our coats on. Now the service was not ok as well. It was very understaffed(4 – 5 people working13 — 14 tables). One of the waitress was rude and none of them were that friendly. We thought of leaving but family wanted to try the food so we stayed. Now the food. It was a local cuisine but we didn’t get that feel. We ordered 8 things and none of them was that appealing. I forgot the names but we had a duck dish in a ceramic pot which was ok, a mixed veggie dish with a really fancy name but not that fancy of a dish, a hand shred chicken which was was made to be sour(can’t compare to the ones I had before elsewhere), a beef with onion dish which was 80% onion, a sprouts dish which was normal, a fried milk dish(ball shaped crunchy fried outer layer and milk or cream on the inside, cold and tasteless) which could’ve been better, a fried fish pancake and a fried lotus root cake which was basically the same. I saw people with a big pan of seafood on a portable stove which looked big but still not that impressive. The stove in one of the tables caught a napkin in flames and one of the waitresses got a small burn on her hands.(Safety hazard much). O and we ordered three bowls of thick milk(don’t know English name) for dessert, which was supposedly most famous from the place that the restaurant is named after. It was alright. Overall, my experience in this place was not that great. The service was not ok, the food was bland, and the outside extension and atmosphere is wrong. Would not come again.

I usually don’t write reviews, but this place is terrible. Poor service, greasy food, and expensive. The food definitely not worth its contents. I told my friend I wanted to pay with my credit card so they can give me the cash, and the waitress overheard what I said. She said no cc. I was like«hmm… ok np». This is the part where a 2 star rating became 1. The waitress count the money in front of me and my friend. I was like really. is this happening, REALLY! This is the first time ever a waitress count the money in front of me. How disrespectful can that be. I should have ask for my tip back after she is done counting. Will not recommend, and will not come again.

Had the huge seafood hot pot, two veggie dishes, a noodle dish and cold chicken dish totally around $ 205. They were nice and let us take the fish from the hot pot and cook the fish two separate ways. It was a lot better this way. The head went into a creamy fish and tofu soup and the body was used to cook with veggies. waitress said the cook only catered to our wish because it wasn’t too busy. However it did make a huge difference in my rating. The beef with yee mein and the fish tofu soup were good. Everything else was very bland. The hot pot had a few clams, prob 2 – 3 crabs and a handful of shrimp. Everything else was veggie. Nothing special and not worth it.

We were due for a family dinner and wanted to stay local, so we gave Shun Deck a try. First off, the service you receive is exactly as you read in the comments – BAD. The waitresses were rude and unapologetic. As soon as we were seated, we were hit with a flurry of menus, arms, elbows, and hands by the waitresses. There was absolutely no apology, excuse me whatsoever. We shared the Medium Ocean Party Hot Pot(fish, crab, shrimp, lobster) $ 128 — Warning — although some pieces looked cooked, NOTHINGISFULLYCOOKED! As soon as the waitress put the pot down, she walked away without letting us know to cook longer. Remember to let the contents boil for some time before eating. This bowl is huge, but lacks taste. Everything was bland – nothing more than boiled seafood. It was our first time eating this kind of cuisine. Shredded hand pulled chicken — Cold dish, it was OK, and will not order again if I had the chance to. Veggies were missing taste.(Blossom lotus, Chinese yam) There weren’t any highlights in this dinner other than trying something new and different. My family and I will not be returning. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting stinky because you will smell like seafood soup by the time you leave. P. S. We gave them a birthday cake and they decided to throw it in the freezer. This is not an ice cream cake. Once again no apology, and was offered a butter knife to cut the cake.

THERE’S A COCKROACHINOURPOT! The employees and owner were very unapologetic. The waitress with glasses is exceptionally rude and told other employees not to talk to us.

I don’t usually write reviews, but I felt compelled to do so this time. I’ve been living in this neighborhood for a decade, and was treated like a «unknowing American» as soon as I walked in. This isn’t Manhattan, and I’m not a tourist so don’t be impressed by my chopstick skills… And being asked if I want a fork, when I’m the only white guy in the group… The«outdoor» tables and seating are barely able to fit 4, the chairs aren’t meant for adults, I’m certain they aren’t built for adults. We got the small seafood hotpot. Broth was bland, overfilled with vegetables, and the shrimp were not cleaned. I give it one star mainly for the staff treating being so rude and disrespectful, especially since they just opened.

Went with my family and ordered four dishes. The fish was spoiled and tasted funny. The waitress was nice about it and took it back, but other dishes were drenched in oil(even the fired milk tasted weird).

So honestly don’t want to rate this place too bad since I feel like they deserve an opportunity to get things right since they have only been open for a couple months. We ordered a total of 4 dishes. The first dish, something fish was spoiled and tasted so weird. We told the waitress who argued that she just had it for lunch but she took it back anyway and apologized. She was nice about it. Then we ordered chicken, fried noodle, and some speciality they recommended — all average. The fried milk… sour…which is not normal… told them about it and they gave us money back so at least they were nice about it. I want to be nice and give them a chance…

Overpriced and portions are small. Ordered a takeout rice plate, portion was very small, not much food and mostly gravy sauce. Not worth $ 5.50. Plus there is nothing special about their food.

Hot pot is decently tasty but seriously not worth the price($ 100 for large seafood). A typical 86 th street establishment that does not have a steady clientele base yet. Their menu was very limited the first time I visited but seem to have grown since that time. Will give it a few tries maybe but it’s definitely not my family’s go to place.

Been here 3 times already, left with a full belly every time. I think the food here is pretty good. I just don’t recommend things with fish. I can’t even convince myself to put it in my mouth. That is just my own preference I guess. The tofu here is delicious. I normally don’t eat tofu but I love it here. Their tiger pepper is also highly recommended if you enjoy spicy food. Another favorite of mine is their soy sauce pan fried noodle. And for dessert, you must not miss out on the milk pudding. Yummy! What takes a point away from them is their limited items on the menu and that during my last visit, they charged me but forgot about my order completely. ***I can’t stress that they need a waiting spot for take out. No space at all!!!

If you must eat here, make sure you order the seafood platter like everyone else. Don’t order ANYTHING else on the menu because the stuff we tried just wasn’t very good.

Was just a casual dining place environment is noisy and humid… its like they are saving on the bill… small place and seating is not that comfortable. No Credit or Debit card accepted!!! Make sure to get cash… the food is average not total liking to my taste… –Food is average. –Environment is hot and humid because of special pot dishes –pricing is a bit over priced for the amount of actual food 8n the dish. –staff is way to busy to even look you in the eye and just paying attention to seat new people entering… we ran out of tea for half an hour before we can finally called a waitress over and she just came back with a bill and no tea! I understand busy but atleast pay attention for guests with their hands up like a grade schooler for a while… –To be honest I will be back to try their chef’s special dishs with a larger group… And yes all the hype of the milk pudding is overrated… just sweet… too sweet…

If you wanna eat oily and greasy food while being hit in the face with a menu, then by all means be my guest. I would say this restaurant is run under the mentality of a China man. What makes someone a China man you ask? 1. They’re rude. 2. They lack manners. 3. Good service is none existent. 4. The only thing on their mind is money. 5. Half ass everything in every way possible so they only meet the bare minimum. 6. Lack of awareness and common sense and basically on «auto pilot» mode all the time. I find it preposterous for the prices they charge for food when 1. It wasn’t even good 2. I could clearly have it made myself. I can’t even begin on where this restaurant needs room for improvement. I was very turned off when the server shoved the menus in my face and her nails nearly scratched my cheeks. She also kept pressuring me to purchase the $ 88 hot pot special even when I told her I don’t like the fish that came with it. I still had the good sense to tip 15% to which she gave me a dirty look when she came to collect the check. She has a lot of nerve when she only brought out 1 pot and my tea was never refilled. She hardly had to do anything. Avoid at all cost if you can.

Been here twice now and this place is still pretty tasty. We always order the shredded chicken along with a soup, veggies and some other dishes. This time we also ordered the salted pork and stir fry oysters which did not disappoint. All the food is pretty yummy and flavorful with fresh products used. It also comes with free tong shui to top it off. They only thing is the food is a little expensive. But if you have a group of people to split it it isn’t that bad

2.5 stars. It couldn’t have been an off night because it was a Friday! They should’ve been anticipating a lot of customers. My friends and I decided to come here after we saw it about a month ago. I was excited about this place, but it was pretty disappointing. I understand the lack of options available on the menu, but they should at least make what they have well… We ordered the fish cakes as it was one of their signature dishes; they were hot, salty and greasy. The fish in it didn’t taste super fresh, just ok. We also ordered the crab and chicken hot pot, which came with lots of chicken, but the crab was nowhere to be found. Perhaps they decided to substitute it with lobster and shrimp, but they didn’t even bother to tell us that they were going to substitute it. The soup was flavorful and good. I have to give them that, possibly the best part of the hotpot; the chicken was tender and soaked up the flavors from the soup. We all ordered the hot milk dessert and it was kinda goopy and sweet. I ate it like it was American pudding because it certainly wasn’t comparable to the real deal. I do not recommend it if you have tried good milk dessert elsewhere. Service was good throughout the night until they started rushing us out, they gave us the check and came back 2 minutes later to see if we paid yet. Check came out to almost $ 100 before tip and I felt like we didn’t really have anything that stood out to me. I was not impressed and don’t think I would be back for dinner, might give them a try for lunch? Overall, not a must try, just another option.

Whenever I’m at 86th Street, if there’s one place I have to go — it’s probably Sake. Unfortunately, that place is turning a bit more rowdier than I had imagined. Seeing Shundeck’s colorful flags across the street, I said to myself — why not? So for my brother’s birthday, we headed over to Shundeck. The style of cuisine is not your typical Cantonese which can be found all over Brooklyn, I can’t remember what it is but if you do please let me know. Inside, it felt clean and in a way reminded me of a lot of the restaurants I had been to when I was in Shanghai. Only difference was that it was January so the windows were fogged up by all the steam. The waitress did not seem inexperienced in my opinion — she had an iPhone 6 Plus with all the dishes she could recommend to us to cater to our taste buds. But she did sell us on that seafood hot pot for a hefty $ 88. And I’ll tell you right now — it’s not worth it, don’t go with it because if you have a huge pot, boiling water and broth, you can make it at home. It includes a huge sea bass(I believe it’s bass), some crab, clams, and jumbo shrimp. The fish, which is the star of this show, is absolutely tasteless. The broth does nothing for it because well of course, the fish went unseasoned. The crab and clams are heavily salted and taste of seawater(how fresh…). To make it better, there’s still sand in it to give it that extra crunch. The jumbo shrimp isn’t bad but it’s not worth it. The rest of the pot has napa cabbage and bean sprouts all throughout, soaked in broth which tastes really good, but seriously… the fish couldn’t have this much flavor? We also went with a couple of side dishes. And now for what you pay at Chinese restaurants, you get a lot of food. As my dad described it, it’s Manhattan portions for Brooklyn prices. You’re better off somewhere else, but let me give you a run-down for what you can order here… The onion with beef and sour choy(I don’t know how to say this!) is pretty good. It has ginger throughout so if you’re not a fan of pickled ginger, this might not be the dish for you. They also had scallion pancake wraps of lettuce, peanut sauce, and shrimp or chicken. It definitely reminded me of Vietnamese spring rolls. To be honest, they weren’t bad! I actually really enjoyed this. We also ordered their tofu with a fishcake center. The tofu is silky but just hard to grab with your chopstick. The fishcake literally had fish bones in it. I’ve never eaten fishcakes with that many fishbones! They also grilled up some beef and veggies for us which tasted absolutely amazing. Their grill is very good, now only if they could improve on probably all aspects of their seafood from cleaning it to flavoring it. For dessert, we had one steamed egg pudding. It was nice and warm and yummy. They also serve a cold ginger pudding and it really hits your throat with the ginger. All in all, this place is great for family style dinner. Good dishes but like I said, don’t fall for the $ 88 pot of sea food. Everyone in the restaurant ordered it but now you know what to expect, so don’t say I didn’t tell you!

This place opened up not too long ago and it seemed packed the day we went. Service was pretty bad as the waiters seemed untrained. The food was mediocre at best and they try to push the seafood platter which is pricey. I think that this place is not going to last long since the food is subpar. There are much better quality restaurants a few blocks away.

This rustic restaurant is bound to be crowded — so if you’re intolerant of lines and wait, don’t bother. However, what you’ll find here is an excellent restaurant with feel-good, home cooking from the Southern Chinese area. Not to be missed dishes include the shredded chicken dish, the fried fish cakes, and the giant hot pot of food. This place is gold– I highly recommend it. You won’t find another place like it. The chef is from Shunde and you can gain a piece of culture and history from the food he cooks. It’s one of a kind. Don’t expect this place to be your typical Chinese takeout spot — it is not.
