Preferred Smog

Chip, the owner, was very polite, professional and completed my smog check in about 15 minutes. In fact, I left my home near Benicia High School at 3:30pm, stopped by the post office to mail some letters on the way, got my 2003 Toyota Tacoma smogged and was back home by 4pm.
I took cash as one of the reviews mentioned that he wanted cash, but he stated that it wasn’t necessary. He had a card reader at his desk and obviously accepts credit/​debit cards.
Great experience overall. I’ll be back.

Pros: Friendly and super fast
Con: Paid $ 66 to smog a 2005 Honda Civic. Seems that is way higher than what a fair price should be. Didn’t do my research ahead of time, I would not have gone there if I had checked prices first.

All I can say is that I would (and will) recommend Preferred Smog to anyone who needs a vehicle smogged. This was my first experience with having to have a vehicle testetd and it was for a 28 ft. motorhome that I had just been gifted! Chip, the owner was so cool and reassuring. I felt very comfortable and could tell he was not trying to pull one over on me. I found out while I was there that he also can take care of registration and vehicle title transfers right there on the spot??? This saved me from having to go spend hours at the dmv. In less than 2 hours I drove away with a smog certificate, current registration and tags and the title transfered to my name. I am beyond happy and so grateful there still exists an honest, fair and integrity based business owner like Chip! Oh, and his prices were less than two local competitors I had called when trying to book an appt.

As returning customer I expected the same technician and setup. However, few things changed here. I tend to stick with one business when dealing with any automotive service; therefore, I was hesitant at first.
Previously, this smog station was ran under the name Benicia Auto Care Center (BACC) by Nick. In case you don’t know, BACC also provides mechanical service as well. Chieb is the new guy running this smog station under the name Preferred Smog. It remains to be a business tied with BACC.
They are now equipped with a new smog test machine. For my particular car, it didn’t require to be ran on a dynamometer AKA dyno. The test ran faster than I thought it would be!
Cash is preferred due to the fact that there will be a 1 dollar transaction fee on credit cards. Fees such as this is expected on a small type of business so it wasn’t a surprise. Also, the smog test price is already competitive and cheaper than most I’ve come across.
Chieb is one cool guy that goes beyond. He noticed a loose hose in my engine bay and he tightened it up and ran a few diagnostic tests to ensure everything ran fine. He was completely transparent. That’s what you call excellent business! I’m definitely returning for future tests on my other vehicles.
