We were visiting Bend and I needed a coffee for the drive back to Portland, while trying to locate Lone Pine(it is in an alley), my wife asked me why I was driving past the other five coffee shops! Lone Pine seems to be the place for the young punks and artists to hang, there were many milling about the alley. If you get offended by other people’s life choices, this it probably not the place for you, if you are more live and let live, and to each his own, you will be fine. The space is small, but smells divine. I ordered a triple latte, and as seems to be the case at many shops, they said they only pull shots in pairs, so I could have two or four. Not unique to Lone Pine, but mildly annoying, two isn’t enough, and four is too much, three is just right. Luckily, my wife wanted the same thing, so we got two triple and split the extra 2 shots. The lattes were delicious, some of the best I have ever had, smooth, not bitter, as it should be. Never a need to add any sugar to these lattes. The customer area is pretty small, they have a few kids toys, but if you have active kids, not a great place to hang out. Also they don’t have other drinks or smoothies for the kids, so know that going in.

Maple latte will peel back your eyelids with a sense of well being. Can’t ask for more.

I like this one the best in Bend. They roast in house, we usually but our beans here. Everything I’ve ever had here has been awesome! Very friendly staff as well.

This little slice of Hipster Heaven hs tucked away in an alley, around the corner from a coffee shop I discovered on my last visit to Bend. As the name implies, it stands as a Lone Pine, and I was excited to find it and even more excited to try the coffees they produce. As roasters, they know the uniquely individual expression of each variety they serve, and I was very much looking forward to learning about their roasting philosophy and tasting the end result. As I opened the doors and walked in off the windy alley, the warmth of the space, dulcet mellow tones of acoustic guitar and vibrant vocals engulfed me. I didn’t know the song playing, but it seemed perfect, and as I made my way to the counter, I was eager to find out what they were serving. I saw the roaster right behind the counter, watched them filling retail bags, saw wholesale coffee leaving in large quantities, and my excitement grew. I looked over the menu, glanced at the jars behind the counter, and tried hard to get an idea of what types of coffee they were pouring today. When I finally reached the counter, I asked«What’s on espresso?» «A blend and a single origin. Blend is mostly Ethiopian and the Single is from Guatemala.» Easily some of the most generic responses I’ve ever received, offering no idea as to the flavors or differences, and expressing no pride in the product they’re serving. I asked for a doppio, aka double espresso, and a pour over of their choice. In response, I was asked to confirm what a doppio was. Needless to say, I was really bummed. When my pour over was ready, it didn’t even come with an explanation as to what it was, and in the end, tasted pretty non-descript and boring. The espresso, on the other hand, had rich roast chocolate notes, with some peanut butter, balanced by a light acidity. I really enjoyed it but unfortunately I don’t know more than that. As I drank my coffee and looked around the space, and everything began to make sense. The acoustic music, skinny jeans, vests, beanies, eclectic art, and seeming disinterest in new customers all added up to one scenario… Was I in hipster hell or just a skit from Portlandia? I couldn’t decide. This shop came with a strong recommendation from a trusted friend, and I think I know why she loves it so much. But for me, I don’t think it’s up my alley, though Id gladly try their coffee somewhere else that is willing to tell me a little something about it.

The best coffee in Bend! They can be a little slow(but that’s probably why the quality is consistent) so if you’re in a rush, be warned, and come back another time. It’s worth the wait.

I’m new to town and have spent the past few weeks trying out different coffee shops in Bend looking for a new haunt that offers consistent quality espresso drinks — this is it. Competent staff, high quality ingredients, on-site roasting, crazy good pastries. But mostly consistently good espresso which is really hard to do.

I love the bagels there but I can’t handle the fact that the person handling the cash is the one that is also touching my bagel. Super unsanitary to touch money and then touch food without washing your hands or putting gloves on. Overall I really like this coffee shop but I can’t go there because it really grosses me out

This place never fails to impress! Everything I’ve ever ordered has tasted smooth and incredibly unique. I love that they make homemade almond milk! Their coffee is great quality and their menu unique. Maple Latte anyone? Delicious! The place is charming and great for a friend date or to write and get creative. The noise level can be high during busy times but the environment is fun. Definitely check them out!

I enjoy the pour over coffee but my wife had a cup that had grounds in it, first cup of the morning. Not sure if this was an exception, but we’ve experienced many other coffee shops in Bend and elsewhere and had tastier cups.

When you’re new to a town, everyone loves to give you suggestions. We made a trip to Lone Pine based on the recommendation from a barrista at another coffee shop. We are typically quad shot, unflavored iced or hot latte drinkers but the barrista at Lone Pine told us that they made their own syrups in house, with the exception of the maple syrup. I’d never had a maple latte before so I ordered it quad shot and iced. WOW. I ended up losing half of my glass to my husband who preferred it over his okay-quad shot iced Americano. It’s out of the way for us so I don’t think we’ll get in there often — but it’s going to be a great treat to stop in for an iced, quad shot maple latte when I’m downtown!

Went here this morning for the first time. I ordered a Vanilla Bean Latte with an Ocean Roll and both were fantastic. I loved the atmosphere and was a good way to start the day. Will definitely be returning to this coffee shop in the near future!

If you really love coffee, if it has to be fresh, if it wasn’t roasted yesterday it’s not good enough, you come here for your coffee. I had a quad americano, nutty and delightful. The pastries are made with the same ingredients dreams are.
