We’re a community makerspace… a place to learn skills, share ideas with others, design, invent, prototype, manufacture, and launch. Dedicated workspaces and offices are available for rent, and your business can get established here!
History
Established in 2015.
The nonprofit High Desert Makers incorporated in July, 2013 and has been bringing activities and events throughout Central Oregon since. In early 2015, a partnership with Cascade Divide Datacenters established the makerspace on the Columbia Campus.
A true community makerspace, the building is being spruced up and equipment brought in. Workshops, classes, events, and activities started in early May and as work areas come online, the value and usability of the space will continue to increase.
Community Powers Everything!
Meet the Manager
Scot W.
Manager
High Desert Makers, the nonprofit, oversees the space, with a board of directors and advisors, each playing a vital role in the design and operation of the makerspace. Scot serves as the President. A life-long tinkerer, these days Scot tends to put more things back together than he takes apart.
Scot has participated in Maker Faires across CA and OR, including many years supporting the flagship Bay Area Maker Faire as part of TechShop.
Actively involved with youth robotics competitions, Scot and a team from Oregon and California oversee state and multi-state regional tournaments.
Scot works with Oregon State University in S.T.E.A.M. outreach, and is part of a team which received a Provost’s Award for their statewide efforts.
Scot’s background includes many years as senior management with companies such as eBay and Apple. Occasionally you might even find him teaching a class for Central Oregon Community College.
