Wise and Wonderful – Veterinary House Calls

Words cannot express my gratitude for Eva and Dr Martin. They have cared for my Beagle Calvin since I moved into the area. Over the past year Calvin was getting older and he had several illnesses. They cared for his various ailments and eventually helped me deal with the inevitable decision to put him to sleep. It was the most heartbreaking decision I’ve ever made, and they helped me understand what was best for Calvin. They dealt with it with passion and empathy, allowing me the time to deal with my grief. Thank you Ladies for your professionalism and compassion. You certainly eased my pain!

Don’t know what I’d do without Dr. Martin and Eva. They have been caring for my senior Chocolate Lab mix, Bailey, for about 5 years now. Bailey has severe fear aggression with veterinarians and let’s just say it was a journey to find the right doctor who understands and knows how to handle her with compassion and understanding. She has had underlying health issues (thryoid, recurring skin/​ear infections, arthritis etc), and the improvement in her general wellbeing is remarkable. Bailey receives premium care from this «wise and wonderful» team!

This is the first and hopefully last time I ever write a review with tears in my eyes.
Wise and Wonderful is a very fitting name for the people at this business and services they provide.
Facing the inevitable and rapid decline of Shiloh, our beloved American Eskimo, I turned to Wise and Wonderful to discuss our options.
My first encounter was a phone conversation with Eva who was very kind, thoughtful, and helpful. At my request, Eva was able to come my house within 2 days with Dr. Patricia Simmons (sp), who was filling in for Dr. Jennifer Martin.
From all the rave reviews about Dr. Martin, I was disappointed that she was out of town and couldn’t see us. But Eva assured me that when Dr. Martin is away, they arrange to have the very best veterinarians cover for Dr. Martin. Well, Eva’s words rang true.
Realizing on the day that Eva and Dr. Simmons arrived there was no choice but to put our dog to rest, I got all the comfort and support I could have asked for. Eva and Dr. Simmons said and did all the right things. They gave my wife and me all the time and space we needed to say goodbye. As painful as this was, I felt that what they provided for our dog was such a peaceful and comforting way for him to leave us and for us to say goodbye.
When Eva and Dr. Simmons left, they gave us both big hugs and lots of reassurance.
In my eyes, these people are real heroes. It’s much easier and more pleasant to provide medical care to healthy and vibrant pets. It’s hard emotionally to help families deal with ill pets and end of life realities. I’m truly grateful for all their support.

Wise and wonderful. the name says it all! I can only recommend Dr Martin and Eva. Thanks to them my 15 ½ year old cat’s tumor surgery went uneventful and untraumatic and the recovery was very fast. My cat loves to be held by Eva, she seems to have the «magic touch». Dr Martin is not only an outstanding vet but also an admirable human being. knowledgeable, open-​minded, kind and caring. She is open to different solutions taking the patients circumstances into consideration, which is not easy to find.

I don’t know why every pet owner does not use this service. We had Dr. Martin and Eva come over to check on our 19 year old cat. They were both very polite, gentle and quick with his exam. We explained that we did not want a million test done and they were very understanding and we did not feel pressured or talked-​into any additional services or testing. Our cat passed away several days later and we received a condolence card from them in the mail, which we thought was very kind.
Going forward we will definitely utilize their services for our other pets.

Our kitty was having trouble peeing. We called Wise and Wonderful and left a message yesterday evening and they responded to our call very promptly. We were able to take advantage of a cancellation first thing in the morning. Eva and Dr. Aiki arrived right on time. We had put our cat in the bathroom as instructed, and Eva somehow calmed her down immediately. They performed the exam, provided a diagnosis and treated her within 15 or 20 minutes, keeping the cat calm the whole time. They gave us some recommendations and the whole experience was just so much better than struggling to get the sick kitty into a carrier and taking her to the vet which is pretty traumatic for her (according to her meows). We loved this service because they were fast, effective and saved a lot of stress for our pet. And us.

I am at a loss for enough kind words for these two amazing individuals. We are not regular clients, but our 12-​year-​old chihuahua baby needed end-​of-​life care on an emergency basis due to his congestive heart failure earlier this week. Although somewhat expected, my family was devastated to know we would be spending one last day with him. The last thing I wanted was to bring my sweet baby to the vet for euthanasia in a terrified, sick state. He always hated going to the vet.
After making the decision to put him down, I made the dreaded phone call to the one mobile vet my own vet recommended and had to leave a blubbering, emotional message and wait. Eva called immediately upon opening and was so compassionate to my situation and let me know she would be there as soon as they could, which was only an hour and a half later than when I called. It actually gave us the «if only I could spend one more minute with my baby before he’s gone» moment we desperately needed at that time.
When they arrived it went very smoothly and our baby got to spend his last moments with all of his family and fur siblings surrounding him with love, and passed peacefully on our bed a few minutes later. His spirit was ready to move on to the rainbow bridge and he knew we loved him so much.

Just had our first appointment with Dr. Martin. I am impressed. Setting up the appointment was easy (email them!). And at the appointment Dr. Martin took the time to ask lots of questions about my dog and her history and she thoroughly explained everything from the possible conditions, to her initial diagnosis and the meds she recommended for my pup. Wise and Wonderful is just that, wise and wonderful!

This sounds like a great vet and service but when you have a very sick pet and are struggling with when to put them down, I would recommend looking elsewhere. I postponed once due to our kitty improving unexpectedly and cancelled once because our kitty disappeared (climbed the fence for the first time in months). I hadn’t confirmed the first appointment and gave 20 hours of notice when I cancelled the second. Plus, I explained the situation thoroughly. When I asked to schedule another appointment (kitty reappeared and is declining) I was referred elsewhere. I get that this is a small business that needs to run efficiently, but euthanizing beloved pets calls for empathy and flexibility. Wise and Wonderful did NOT show me these qualities.

We started using this mobile vet about a year and a half ago and my pets so much prefer it to going to a traditional vet office, and it is a lot easier on me too. Dr. Martin and Eva are always very kind to me and my 2 dogs and 2 cats. One of the cats Dr. Martin diagnosed with diabetes and she has been great at helping us manage his care. She even responds to emails on weekends when I’ve had questions about his blood glucose levels. I have felt much better with my pets in their care than any other vet I’ve seen before. It may cost more because of the house call fee, but I think the care is so much better and the stress on me and the pets so much less, that it more than makes up for the added cost.

Chose to try an at-​home vet for our elderly, now-​crazy cat. Last trip to the vet ended up in huge bills for general anesthesia, hospital bills for cat’s owner when cat bit her, and one very-​stressed cat. Called Wise and Wonderful. Eva answered all my questions and set up an appointment. Eva and Dr. Martin showed up on-​time, courteous, thorough, and had a realistic, conservative approach to treating our cat. Our cat got his rabies shot (kevlar gloves needed and no blood shed) and was minimally stressed. The time saved and the lack of stress for both owner and cat were well worth the house-​call cost. I would highly recommend Wise and Wonderful. I’ll be calling them from now on!

Dr. Martin and Eva made a very emotional and difficult situation much easier. They provided a very peaceful and comfortable end to my sweet kitty’s life. They were gracious, understanding and most importantly skilled in the euthanasia process.

I had to have my cat euthanized. As a traumatic of an experience as this was for me they were loving kind and gentle. They both treated my sweet old cat with so much kindness and respect.
I can’t say enough wonderful compliments about both of them.
Dr. Martin seems to be a veterinarian for her obvious love for animals.
Wise and wonderful is clearly a wise choice.

Our regular vet had to move and now is too far away for me to take our 2 crazy dogs in for simple things like vaccines and check-​ups, so after reading the Unilocal reviews of W&W Vets I gave them a call.
They were extremely professional and great to work with. Took good care of our dogs and did thorough check ups. They also were easy to communicate with, and called me the next day with the lab results. Their prices are comparable to many local vets.
I will definately use them again.

The best! Eva and Dr. Martin really care about animals. The mobile office is very well-​equipped: our kitty had more serious problems than we had realized, and they were able to handle it on site. Eva got in touch the next day to ask about how our kitty was doing: how good is that?

My Dad has a 16 year old cat who is moving slowly and we feared that 1) he was in pain and 2) since he sleeps on the bed with my Dad, he may wake up in the morning but his cat may not. We worried that forcing him in a carrier and driving to the vet would be too traumatic so we called W&W.
Now I would like to address the complaint that Eva manhandled an elderly cat and say that I watched her pick up Mickey, who hates to be picked up by anyone and had a strong grip but let’s face it, when wrangling cats, you need to use some force or they will escape and likely hurt you in the process. She wrapped him in a towel, cupped his eyes and spoke soft soothing words to him as the Dr. Martin examined him.
Dr. Martin then told us that she saw no indication of pain just stiffness and advised us that there was medication that could help and in her opinion, he was in very good health considering his age.
She even clipped his nails and gave us some samples of food. My curious cat walked up the the door of the mobile and Eva gave her a treat.
I will never take my pets to a vet again. It such a good business model to bring the vet to a pet because when you think about it, pets smell the fear of the other pets in a vet office.
Our Mickey peeked his head out a half hour later and has been strutting all around the house to day (with naps in the sun along the way).

Doctor Martin is trustfully, honest. She loves animals. She doesn’t do this job to make money. The most important for her is the animal first. She speaks french and that’s a plus.
Eva, her assistant is nice too. When Calliope sees the truck, she recognizes them and she wants to visit it after her shots. My cat is not traumatized but happy!

Dr. Martin and Eva were incredibly kind and sweet to us and to our darling cat who had to be euthanized. They couldn’t have been more supportive, understanding, and gentle. Not only that, they sent us a very sweet card afterward with our baby’s pawprints on a ceramic heart, along with some poems and an info sheet on dealing with pet bereavement. We’re so glad that our cat’s last experience of life didn’t have to be a scary car ride and scary vet’s office, but right at home with us, as close as could be. No one likes to think about money at a time like this – but though more expensive than our regular vet, it was worth every penny in what we were able to give our cat. Not to mention not having to drive back from the vet’s office, crying, with an empty cat carrier. I’m so grateful to Dr. Martin and Eva for easing our dear cat’s passing.

I just had the best and worst experience all mixed into one. PIA, my 16 years young feline, has been ill all week and had a severe weight loss and respiratory issues. I saw Dr. Martin’s raves on Unilocal and knew that’s where we needed to go for this visit.
Late last night I wrote Dr. Martin and Eva a rather long email letting them know I have been ill and PIA’s story. They called me back and by 10:45 am I was in their sparkling clean mobile clinic. Their patience, competence, calmness and caring dispositions made it so much easier for me to part ways with my fantastic feline.
Her rates were standard and very reasonable in my opinion and she offered several options for my cat’s remains without pushing any decision on me. Had I found out about Dr. Martin and Eva earlier on they would have been my go-​to vet for sure. In any case, I’m just grateful that they were the people that were there in the end and helped me, and PIA, through her final stage.

I started out with a mobile vet, Dr. Janet Dunn, who is well known in the Bay Area. She has an animal acupuncture practice now and is thriving, but I was upset to have to take Blanca to the veterinary hospital, which she loathes.
Well, my wonderful cat sitter recommended Dr. Martin and Eva and I have to add the wish for more than 5 stars as ratings as well. Dr. Martin and Eva have exactly the same extraordinary touch with animals and people. They are calm, kind, good humored and so professional and competent.
It is of immeasurable comfort to be able to protect my cat from the stress of going to the veterinary hospital and given that she has feline kidney disease and is showing signs of soon needing to be gently passed along to St. Francis, I am so grateful for this wonderful duo to be there.
