Robert’s Salon and Spa

I visited Robert’s today for the first time and had a fantastic experience! I needed a change and Robert walked me through a 6″ cut (my hair was LONG — too long) and my very first color ever with patience and care :) His skill and knowledge calmed my nerves and gave me the confidence to trust him implicitly, which was a great decision. He and his staff were so great — I walked out feeling so pretty — way too pretty to go straight home, so I texted some girlfriends so I could go out and show off my new look right away! I have been looking for a new stylist for several years now — ever since my stylist of 12 years retired. I’m so excited (and relieved) to have found Robert — I’m very much looking forward to my next visit — maybe to try something new again! Very highly recommend :)

Robert’s was a lifesaver! My sister had a hair appointment on her wedding day in another town and there was no way we could’ve made it. We called Robert’s and they were able to fit us in with ten minutes notice. The owner’s wife did my sister’s wedding hair exactly as she wanted it. They were also able to do her make-​up. The receptionist was super nice, and they seemed to have a lot of regular customers coming in. They saved my sister’s wedding that way. We are so appreciative!

I wish I read the reviews before I went. The salon was empty but the stylist was in a hurry. We missed communicated and in the end I don’t like the cut. I had a picture on my phone and I wish I slowed him down so that we both had the same image. It is going to take awhile for this one to grow out. The people were very polite and I was able to get in on short notice.

Nice salon, weird experience. The receptionist insisted that I help myself to a gown in an unknown closet. She stood up and pointed to it when, as a first time visitor, it would have been appreciated if she had walked me 30 feet over to the robe closet. My appointment was at 2 with Elizabeth. She was with a male client and let me tell you, there was ZERO regard for my time. I guess I was wrong to expect a «I’m running late, I’ll be right with you!» I sat next to her station for 26 minutes before I was acknowledged.
She was moving very slowly with this man’s haircut. And it’s not like he had long hair. She was snipping and clipping as slowly as possible, stopping to make hand gestures and eye contact with her client. Just when I thought she was done, she asked him, «you want your sideburns done?» 7 minutes later, «you want me to do your eyebrows?» Really?! I’m surprised she didn’t trim his nose hairs, too. To clarify — all of this would have been 100% FINE, had I been acknowledged by SOMEONE.
Finally, she came over, didn’t introduce herself. Touches my hair and says, okay — so we’re doing a partial, right? And just a trim? Not sure where this information came from… Are you going to bother asking me what I’m looking for before you mix my color? Are you going to take 90 seconds to consult with me? I’m Natasha by the way.
My hair came out OK, considering I paid $ 75 for a haircut, color, and blow dry. It just seemed very rushed to me. The highlights were extremely chunky and not well-​done.

I had a haircut at Robert’s before and it was decent, so I went back when I saw that they offered a Groupon. Unfortunately, this second experience was not at all like the first! I arrived at my appointment on time, waited a few minutes to check in, with no acknowledgement from the front desk. Then I waited. And waited. And waited some more… for 45 minutes before my stylist was ready. I was not alerted that she would be so long with another client, they did not apologize or offer an explanation, as if I didn’t have other things to do on a saturday morning! I should have just walked out, it would have saved me arguably the worst haircut of my life!
So, I finally sat down, and my stylist was friendly enough, her name was Jane. I thought she understood what I wanted when I said long layers, but my haircut ended up looking like a mullet… not quite what I was going for. It was also uneven in the front, which she corrected just fine. I didn’t even want her to attempt a fix, who knows what might have happened!
I left, and went home to make an appointment at a better salon to have my mullet fixed. So, lesson learned, don’t go to Roberts! They have free bagels and coffee, but they don’t care about your time, and they don’t even do good work! 1 star is 1 star too many for this place!

First review on Unilocal!And sadly it is for unacceptable service. I should have read Unilocal before trying Roberts Salon but went for a cut/​color with Elizabeth because she was listed on Devacurl as a trained curly hair stylist. My first visit was fine (although she definitely didn’t cut my hair any special Deva way). But then it went downhill. The next visit was for a color only and Elizabeth was 45 min late. No one came to explain her lateness to me; I finally had to ask if someone else could apply my color so I could be done in time to pick up my kids. I received a free product as compensation. Next visit (color only again), Elizabeth was again about 35 – 40 min late, this time with no apology or acknowledgment, and she then simply directed someone else to do my color. Front desk staff were very uncaring too. I can do better. My time is not valued here.

I had a great experienece here with a groupon I bought. I loved my shelac manicure and relaxing pedi… great service and friendly people! I would reccomend this place to people for sure.

Everything was great! Prior to this visit I got my hair highlighted at Emerge Salon o Newbury St. Robert was on time (I hate when hair dressers are running late, my hair dresser at Emerge as 25minuts late to take me), extremely attentive to my wants (color came out even better than I imagined), trimmed the bare essential of my dead ends (I hate when hair dressers cut too much), and performed the service in a timely manner (I wasn’t rushed but he didn’t take forever! All around perfect service, will definitely go back.

Elizabeth is an excellent stylist. She listened and took the time to give a perfect haircut. She is a warm and friendly person!

The WORST mani pedi ever!
Got there at the time of my appointment and waited 30 min. While waiting I asked what the nearest coffee shop was and was told there was a Starbucks down the street. Got a coffee and food and came back to notice the coffee and bagel setup the salon had (nice to know before I dropped $ 10 at Stabucks)
Naz — texted the whole time, insisted my feet were dry and put my shoes on (all paint was lost on my walk to the car resulting in a last min do it yourself job before a flight out to vacation). THE WORST MANI PEDI I HAVE EVER HAD!

Never again. Two expensive haircuts were ok (not great value but ok style), but then they canceled TWICE and never showed for another time.
When I was waiting for the no-​show, I heard the receptionist calling other customers to cancel their appointments with a stylist (I didn’t catch her name) because she has to take care of some family members.
The space is noisier than most hair salons (ok, I expect blow dryers) because of the blaring music and no acoustic design — lots of hard surfaces for the sounds to bounce off.
Robert the owner asks way too personal questions although maybe he’s just trying to be friendly (and assumes that all his customers are stay-​at-​home moms who gets lots of spa services?). it rubbed me the wrong way esp since I’d told him my profession.
Elizabeth his wife does not seem to have the requisite experience.
Find another place for your business.

Love him — love what he does to make me look good. And, honestly, cannot get better attention or service — also appreciate that his front desk doesn’t put you on hold when you call. And, if I make my reservation online, Robert is the one who usually calls me back to confirm! Recommend this place highly…

I really wanted to give more stars. I just didn’t think it’d be justified.
Hubby gave me a groupon for a mani-​pedi, and I figured it’d be nice to be a little pampered. I have never had my nails professionally done, so take this with a grain of salt.
Staff: Very friendly and welcoming, I was a few minutes early and didn’t have long at all to wait. Was welcomed and encouraged to pick out a color I liked. The lady (I didn’t catch a name, she was a short, Asian woman with a slight accent) wasn’t falsely chatty, and put me at ease. So plus three stars.
Interior: Very well-​lit, well-​organized, not dirty or cluttered. Plus one star.
I especially enjoyed the massage chair/​foot bath aspect of the pedicure, and as an unanticipated bonus, the lady buffed off part of a horrific callus/​blister I’ve developed on one toe from my running shoes.
So why only two stars?
Because when I left, my fingernails were still tacky. I’d been there for literally an hour and a half, and my nails, while shaped better than I could have, were not what I’d anticipated. The polish was bubbling and there were rough edges. Even getting the groupon out of my purse earned me dents in the polish on my thumb. Dents. I may not be a professional, but even I know that means the polish is not only too thick, but not dry. I’d have been better off having my nails shaped and just going with the pedicure. I’ve done a much better job on my own hands, and I probably won’t be going back.
Unfortunate, because the people are lovely, but the end result is not something I’d even pay Groupon prices for. More than an hour after I left, my fingernails are still tacky; I anticipate having to re-​do them tomorrow. At least everything besides the actual nail polish was good.

I’ve never bothered to write a Unilocal review but today’s experience was particularly unpleasant. This was my third trip to Robert’s. The service is mediocre here as everyone else has noted. Jenny and Christine do relatively good mani/​pedis if you can get a Groupon or something. Not really worth full price. Naz is not so great.
The real issue I have is with the owner’s wife Elizabeth. I was sitting minding my own business when she started off on a noisy tirade about something political. Her opinions weren’t what bothered me. The whole thing just made me horribly uncomfortable. She was basically yelling at the woman who’s hair she was blowing out. It was so inappropriate. Ultimately, Elizabeth’s proselytizing is why I wont return.

I’m not gonna lie, I am not a girly girl. I get a professional mani/​pedi exclusively for special occasions and I’m cheap, so when those two characteristics are combined with an awesome Groupon deal, I’m in Heaven.
I had a mani/​pedi special with Jenny, who did a fantastic job. My nails looked fabulous the day of, but the polish peeled off my nails the next day.
I also had a bikini wax done with Nas. She is not too good at waxing. It was super painful and blotchy.
The salon is big and it was very busy on a Saturday morning.

I have been going to Robert to get my hair done for the past 10 years, and wouldn’t go anywhere else! Everyone who works there is incredibly friendly and accommodating, and its very easy to make an appointment. I always come away with cut and color exactly as I had hoped, and my hair feeling fresh and silky. The one time my hair color came out too dark, they made time to see me the following day and add some highlights at no additional charge.
Another great perk are the cheaper prices compared to anything in Boston, as well as easy parking.

5 stars for Maria, best wax ever and most painless wax I’ve had. I have seen her several times now.
I agree with some other reviews that reception is a little akward, I prefer to make my appointments directly with Maria. Also, the prices are a little expensive, but the waxing rooms are relaxing and as I already stated Maria is awesome. Really, if you don’t like being in pain when you get a wax…
Free street parking is available, there is also a parking lot in the back of Belmont Center.

I have been going to Roberts for six years for coloring, cut and much more. It is the best professional cut I have found in Boston. I drive 45 min. to get my hair cut there and it is always worth the gas!
They have a number of services to offer. Robert’s wife did my and my bridesmaids hair at my wedding. I love the new woman that gives facials and waxing.
Robert is incredible with coloring. He seems to be a true natural.
You can be assured that you will be more than satisfied with the services at this salon!
I wouldn’t go anywhere else.

I am certainly no expert about Robert’s Salon, as I’m not a regular. I have, however been here on several occasions for mani/​pedis. Most notably, I came here the day before my wedding with all of my bridesmaids for mani/​pedis and a gel nail application.
All in all I am happy with the work they have done. Jenny is the woman I’ve had a couple of times and she is fun and does a great job. Robert is great too, friendly and welcoming. All of my nail work has come out looking fabulous and lasts a long time. You certainly get what you pay for, and because the prices in here are more Newbury St. than downtown Belmont you certainly should get the most for your dollar!
The salon is clean, pretty spacious, and is in such a cute location. Everytime I’ve gone there I’ve loved being able to pop over to Stone Hearth pizza for dinner or do a quick loop through the Macy’s across the street.
The thing that really irks me about this place is the reception. The woman who greets you at reception (can’t think of her name) is awkward, not friendly, and just doesn’t welcome you in at all. Really, not the best face for your business. She seems confused about things and this was most noted when I was trying to pay for myself and all of my bridesmaids mani/​pedis prior to my wedding. An expense somewhere in the range of $ 500 (Oh, and I need to mention again this place is not cheap). She didn’t know the price of a french pedi and miscalculated TWICE the amount I needed to charge — leading me to put three separate charges on my credit card. This is simple math, and I was not a happy camper. How complicated can this be? Apparently more than I thought.
Robert’s is a nice salon and they do nice work but I think it would really make a world of difference if reception was, well, just a little more receptive.

I’ve been going here for about a year since with a toddler and a newborn I can’t seem to get more than a mile away.
I’ve had my haircut by Elizabeth, the owner’s wife, who is extremely pleasant but doesn’t seem to listen to me to give me the cut I really want. I walk out of there with a nice cut, but not what I asked for.
The prices are worthy of Newbury St., but I just don’t feel the experience is that great. I think it’s time to move on.
