Alec was my main man as I faced the overwhelming task of remodeling my parents’ big house to rent out, after they moved to assisted living.
They had not done much in 40 years, and it needed a lot of freshening up (new floors, new windows, new lighting, new hardware, new texture & paint), some major repairs (like asbestos remediation, termites, rotten floor joists), and a major update (new master bath.)
I was already exhausted from caring for Mom & Dad (they didn’t really want to move, but could no longer climb stairs or cook for themselves), and with Alec I could relax and know someone was getting things hauled, installed, or handled, and overseeing the subcontractors as well. (I insulated, sealed, and put in solar panels!)
Alec does great work, and you can count on him to think of ways to make your life and the job better. Once we had to meet at Home Depot for me to look at a special order, and he brought all the mail so I wouldn’t have to drive up to the house that day. He is always calm, kind and thoughtful, and you can rely on him.

It looks like my one-​star review will be an isolated case here and perhaps it is a good thing. I called Alec regarding some raccoon damage to the siding of my house. He dropped by (probably within two weeks of the initial conversation, which is an acceptable wait time) to assess the damage. He told me he would get back to me with the quote, and has disappeared. I have not heard from him for several weeks before i reached out to him myself and never got a reply.
I understand that handymen are busy, or sometimes they might not want to take up on any new projects for whatever reason. However, i would really appreciate him reaching out and actually informing me that he would not be working on my house. I have wasted quite a bit of time because of him.

We have been using Alec for the past 7 years and won’t be changing anytime soon! He is terrific. He recently has been working on both a new house we purchased and one that we are planning to place on the market. No task is too big for him. He is very patient with all my demands and questions. He is also a caring person; a few weeks back I think he saw how stressed I was, so he accompanied me to Lowes to ensure I picked out the correct cabinets and had the measurements I needed. He always goes the extra mile. He is skilled, punctual, kind, and overall pleasant to work with. He is also very honest and if the job is something he feels someone else can do better he’ll let you know. His rates are very reasonable. Thanks Alec we couldn’t have gotten our house ready to sell without you!

Basic work is fine. I thought he could do a basic wiring for an electric car charger. It started a fire. Shame on me for not hiring an electrician.

Alec returns almost a year later to install the ‘living’ wall Seasonal Celebrations designed for our backyard. Once again, he took great care to make sure everything was done properly. He came and went after making sure everything was to my satisfaction… and he never left a trace that he was even here… except for our beautiful vertical garden. A true professional!

Sometimes, clouds really do have silver linings! In a hurry to have privacy screening installed on our backyard fence due to dog issues, we gave the brother of our gardener a shot — what a stupid idea! He completely flaked out. Well, this very bad experience was the catalyst in me turning to Unilocal and calling Alec. He was able to come out quickly, was punctual, very reasonable in his fees, and did a STELLAR job, as in exceeded my expectations! He’s also just a really nice guy and put up with our challenging dogs. We’ll definitely be calling Alec again, and if I ever win the lottery, I’m putting him on retainer! Thank you, Alec.

Alec is the handyman that you wish for but are so often disappointed.
He is an handyman in name only but brings the professionalism you only hope for with a contractor.

I recently moved to San Carlos and needed a whole lot of things to be done in the house (light fixtures, curtain rods, shelves, complicated furniture assembly, new bathroom vanities, painting, floor laminates… I can go on). He did all of it and did it very well. Among a long list of great things about Alec, below are five things that fellow Unilocalers may find useful:

We used Alec this past week to help us install all our ceiling fans/​lights including a massive chandelier and we felt so lucky for having worked with Alec. Alec picks up the phone right away and is the MOST responsive via email, unlike many other handyman services. He was also upfront about what can be done and the expected time
During the installation, he showed meticulous attention to detail but his tremendous wealth of experience and knowledge about various projects around the house was very apparent throughout the projects. The cherry on top was his volunteering to take our old lights (5 or 6 of them) and donating them to Habitat for Humanity — it shows not only his care for the project but his character and dedication to the community.
I couldn’t wait to write this review and I can’t wait to tell all my other friends who are looking for house projects. Thank you so much Alec!

Alec did an outstanding job renovating my town home. Before he painted the entire interior of my home, he prepped the walls and ceilings. He built shelves in the closets, added molding to the ceiling and baseboards, installed two pocket doors. He also did some tile work in the bathroom and in the kitchen. He worked well with my interior designer. They were a great team! Alec is very trustworthy. I felt at ease when I not home the day when Alec was there. My two cats love him! He is officially my handyman. I highly recommend him to anyone!

I asked a friend, a professional organizer, for a handyman recommendation. She recommended Alec Keit, and I couldn’t be happier. He was available within a week, he showed up on time (after having to reschedule, which he did 3 days ahead of time), he worked within his time estimate, he did a great job, and he had practical advice about the placement of shelves.
I had one custom shelf to be installed, shelf standards for another set, and a window air conditioner. He came out first to measure the shelves and give me an estimate. On the day, he showed up with the custom shelf already cut to size and painted in his workshop; he also found and bought the correct brass support pins (matching the existing pins) for the custom shelf and gave me the extras for future use. He handled reading the air conditioner instructions, assembling the various bits, and installing the air conditioner in a window that was 12 feet above the ground on the outside, something my husband and I could never have tackled ourselves. When he put up the shelf standards, he found — without drilling — one place in the wall that had a metal electrical conduit behind it; he didn’t drill that hole, then before he left he called my attention to the missing screw and explained why.
Professional, competent, and fast. I’m thrilled, and I’ll certainly go back to him the next time I need work done.

Alec has done several projects for us in our kitchen and bathrooms and involving cabinets, woodwork and plumbing. He has always been honest, professional, and very reasonably priced. One Sunday I was trying to do a small faucet repair and blew out a faucet with a geyser like result. In a panic I turned off the home water supply and called Alec. He came right out on a Sunday afternoon and corrected the problem. What could have been a total catastophe was a lesson in home repair and only an afternoon lost. I am a big R&R fan.

Rarely do you find a handyman who arrives on time, does the work professionally, correctly, and quickly, and leaves the work areas as clean or cleaner than he found them. Alec Keit is such a workman.
On his first visit he fixed an overflow damage upstairs and below and also and shut fixed a door that wouldn’t open properly. He’ll be back to replace a window. AND he’s reasonably priced!

Alec Keit was amazing. I am a Realtor in Walnut Creek who had just sold a listing in Pacifica. My Seller has not informed me that he did not have the key to his garage OR his storage shed. Well the Buyer obviously wanted these and after we closed escrow I needed someone to go and re-​key both locks. After calling countless locksmiths and handymen in Pacifica and San Bruno who either never returned my phone call or wanted to charge me over $ 250 to simply re-​key 2 locks… I stumbled on to Alec Keit! Everything about this man is correct — his initial quote came very close to how much he charged me., he got the job done on time and was able to complete it the next day after he gave me the initial quote. Alec even fixed some broken cables in the garage for the Buyer too! Alec is a true professional and he comes highly recommended!

I recently met Alec through a friend and he is the owner of R&R Handywork. I have had this outdoor fountain that I have wanted to install for almost 6 months. I have called numerous contractors and other handy people but they have all flaked. So I called Alec and he said he would be over the next day, he actually called to tell me he could be there a couple of hours earlier than our actuall appointment. I was thrilled. He assesed the situation and said he could have installed within the hour. I thought he would have to come out, give me some elaborate invoice and then come back to install it. Nope, he put it in right then and there, he needed extra parts and had them in his truck, he cleaned up after himself and now I have a super kick ass fountain in front of my office that I would have never had installed if it wasn’t for Alex.
