Out of the Box Moves

I can’t thank Amy and her staff enough for helping me with my 89 yr-​old mother’s house. It was a challenging situation in that my mom was quite the hoarder; and once she broke her hip and was forced to live elsewhere, I was then able to remove what I thought we might possibly want/​need. The rest we were able to leave in place for the new buyer to dispose of. For two days, I worked closely with Amy and Fran who did a phenomenal job packing and labeling. Then Fran directed the movers to set up the storage unit with superb organization so I’ve been able to locate anything I’ve needed. Out of The Box Moves is THE best!

Amy and her staff consistently receive rave reviews from the families she has helped move to our Assisted Living Community in Brookline, MA. She does her work with equal amounts of warmth and professionalism. She understands the delicate balance of family emotions that sometimes play out when making a move such as this. We look forward to working with Amy many times over the years to come.

We recently worked with Amy and her team to move my mother from from a home she had lived in for 22 years to a smaller apartment. The whole team were great to work with and made a difficult dynamic so much easier. From designing a workable floor plan, to helping my mother understand what she could and couldn’t take with her to notifying the post office of the move, Amy did it all! Amy and Cynthia were so pleasant and had such a wonderful way with my mother. It was impressive how quickly they unpacked my mother in the new house. When my mother walked in, pictures were on the wall and her favorite things all around!

I wrote this commendation to Amy Roberts and sent it to her but decided it would be much better to tell «the world’ how great her work, and her team is, so here it is exactly as I wrote it:
Hello Amy,
On behalf of all of us, I just want to say thank you for all the help and support you were to my 94 year old mother in her physical move to Goddard House in Brookline. Never in a million years would I sign up to be a move coordinator for the geriatric set (it’s like being a wedding planner… yikes!) but YOU ARE TOTALLY AMAZING! With your colleague, Cynthia, you made what could have been a nightmare into a (relatively speaking) pleasant and pretty much uneventful event!
Now we know this is your business and things-​are-​supposed-​to-​go-​seamlessly. But with a woman who is 94, someone truly set in her ways, you really do have to expect the unexpected. But you coordinated everything: the inventory of what Mom had, the review of her new apartment, the placing of the furniture and pictures, guiding us and her in what to keep and what to toss or sell, hiring the movers, engaging the people to clean up afterwards, and on and on. All of this happened at what my entire family concluded was at a truly affordable price. But beyond the mechanics of the move, the center of it all (with great respect to Cynthia’s help) was you, Amy: sensitive, warm, full of life, laughing and always of great humor, attentive to the most minute details, considerate beyond all measure, available always, and absolutely reliable. To reach the level of professionalism and quality that you exude reminds me of a quote from the great vaudevillian, Eddie Cantor: «It takes twenty years to create an overnight success!» Now I know you haven’t been at it for twenty years but you perform as if you had. I have one suggestion, if I may offer it. When you give someone your business card, you should have (of course your company’s name address and contact information etc.) the following written on the card someplace: «CONSIDER IT DONE.» Because that’s you!
Need I say more? I do: Cynthia needs some praise too: We could not have done the move without her help, also. She sat with Mom for four days getting rid of clothes and other things Mom would not need at Goddard House. We all had tried to do some of that prior to meeting Cynthia but were unable to get rid of anything. Cynthia knew the space limitations at Goddard House and made sure that Mom didn’t take too much, especially kitchen items. Mom and Cynthia really bonded, making all the decisions even easier. Cynthia was patient, but firm. She knew when Mom was tired, and left saying she’d be back another day when Mom wasn’t so tired. How she got through everything, I don’t know, but we really appreciated all that Cynthia did.

When I think of Amy and her team the words that come to mind are creative, compassionate, and efficient. We hired Amy to assist us in moving my mom to an Apartment from a 4 bedroom house with a basement and attic. My mom had lived in the house for 40 years. We were also living in the house and our things were also in the process of being packed to be moved as well as a move of my mom’s things to storage. Added to the complexity was that my mom could not come to the house to decide on what she should dispose of. The Out of the Box team was willing and patient to deal with this situation that was done via phone and pictures with my mom. We also helped with the process which they had no problem with.
After my mom’s things arrived at her new apartment the Out of the Box team was waiting in the apartment for the movers. My mom and I went out to lunch and when we returned for the «reveal» my mom exclaimed «OMG» when she saw her apartment completely unpacked, items put away, and many pictures hung. Amy even returned a couple of days later to help my mom finish the unpacking process and remove any unwanted items.
One thing we liked is that Amy strived to donate items rather than just throw them in the trash.

I had to coordinate moving my mother from her home of 50+ years into an assisted living apartment in December. I live in Kentucky, so the entire process had to be done by telephone, fax and email. I am so fortunate to have been referred to Amy Roberts and Out of the Box Moves from an elder care specialist. She is incredibly professional, knowledgeable and efficient. She is also experienced in knowing what elders need to have around them to make them feel comfortable in new and different surroundings. Amy was able to look at the new apartment, go to Mom’s home and assist in selecting the furniture that would fit, did all of the packing, hired the movers, and supervised the entire process. On moving day, Amy was at Mom’s new apartment to meet the movers and to set up and arrange her bed, furniture and household items. She even picked out decorative items and pictures that were Mom’s favorites and arranged them on the walls. When Mom saw the final result, she was overwhelmed. Amy sent me photos by email, and I was equally in awe of the superb result. When I visited Mom and saw the apartment in person, it was absolutely perfect. I could not have done a better job if I had done it myself, and I am a perfectionist. Amy made what could have been a difficult process into one that was seamless and gratifying in its very successful result. The job done by Amy and her team was worth every penny!

I had the best experience with Amy and her team as I downsized from a huge house I had lived in for over sixteen years to a small condo.
I was literally «afraid» to even approach the attic and Amy had it organized in 1.5 hours! She helps in every aspect of cleaning out, downsizing, moving, unpacking, rug cleaning, antique selling, consignment selling… you ghetto decide what you want and she will either take the project over or work with you to accomplish it to your specifications.
She made my move/​downsize Easy, and Manageable. Amy has lots of contacts and is very efficient and fun. She gets right to work nd stays until the job is done. She is easy to communicate with. I highly recommend her to others. She would also be ideal if you need to help your parents downsize. She even helped me hang pictures in my new place.
She is a real pro, is always ontime, and is very personable. I would not hesitate to hire her to help my elderly parents.
She bills every two weeks.
