History

Established in 2014.

The Crossing Guide Magazine is the unexpected contender in the world of publications. We feel the pulse of our community and we want nothing more than to share it. The Crossing Guide features colorful, witty, humorous, and engaging content, artfully written by both famous and up-and-coming writers. Our publication focuses on insightful reviews on food, art, music, books, and film, leads on all the best shopping in the area & general merriment.

In addition to the magazine, The Crossing Guide also leads Tours of Whatcom or Skagit County. The Tours have unofficially been happening for years. Marisa, the founder of The Crossing Guide, would often «kidnap» her friends and acquaintances when they were in need of a getaway, and take them on a tour of the area. Through this, she came to know the best hidden gems around the counties. Now she has decided to pass this knowledge on to anybody looking to dodge the beaten path and see the local community here through brand new eyes.

Meet the Business Owner

Marisa P.

Business Owner

Marisa Papetti moved to our little corner of the state when she was 11 years old from a little German town called Langendiebach. As she grew up, she became more and more involved with the community at large; she worked for local publications Mount Baker Experience magazine and Cascadia Weekly, before branching off and forming her own marketing firm, fifthonsixth. The firm was devoted to promoting local small-and medium-sized businesses in the area, giving exposure to businesses that otherwise would get very little.

In 2013, she formed The Crossing Guide Magazine, a local publication aimed at showing the Canadian tourist exactly what Whatcom, Skagit and Island counties have to offer. Through this brand, she launched The Crossing Guide Tours. Her dedication to the community has not gone unappreciated, as she is currently up for Whatcom Women in Business’ Business Woman of the Year. As ambitious and driven as ever, she feels the pulse of her community and can’t wait to share it with you.
