My favorite«go-to» grungy thrift store in Bellingham. Their prices have been steadily increasing, but with their weekly 75% off sales, it’s still a bargain, which I love. You can’t go wrong with the books and kids clothes. It IS dirty, so beware of that, but if you don’t mind digging around, it’s worth it.

I had been low income for more than 20 years and I was very grateful for Salvation Army’s help over those years. But what the Bellingham Salvation Army Thrift Store has become is appalling. The store has a great deal of things that are torn and so worn out they are beyond use. The store itself looks like the dumps threw up. Its dirty too. I complained to the store manager and he said«but we help a lot of homeless people with this stuff». It seems as if the homeless don’t deserve better. I shop at alot of thrift stores all over the West Coast and not once have seen i store like this. The Store in Everett does NOT look like this AND it does not sell items in this condition.

A Poem About Why I Won’t Shop Here Happily, I have found that Other thrift stores and Markets Offer affordable Prices and Household goods Over and above the Best the Salvation Army has to offer. Each time I need a thrift store I Seek out other options.

Pro: The wildest, weirdest selection of the damndest stuff you ever saw, reasonably priced-hell, UNDERpriced! Con: The nastiest, filthiest, freakiest Salvation Army I have ever been in, located in an old dank bowling alley next to a hobo jungle on the ‘Meth’ side of town. If cleanliness and unwashed psychotics aren’t an issue for you, then go forth… and possibly find the treasure of a lifetime. I’ve done very, very well here and so have others. Just, you know, don’t use the restroom without a sidearm.

The only thing this place lacks is hyper-cleanliness and obsessive organization… and who need either of those things? It’s just exactly what you’ve come to love from Salvation Army: near rock bottom prices, a wide variety of items, and that haphazard way of stocking things that makes it all the more lovable. I certainly could argue for better lighting, but this may only concern those who don’t have the eye to see past it. As an avid junk/antique hunter/hoarder, I value places with unbiased pricing and a little homey awkwardness. This is such the place. There is also a student discount of a whopping 25% on two days of the week, one of them being Monday for certain.
