History

Established in 1978.

Dr. Michael Oswald started this practice in the old Herald building in downtown Bellingham next to his father, Dr. Harold Oswald. Together with a group of dentists they built the Meridian Dental Center at its current location on the Guide Meridian across from the Bellingham Golf and Country Club. Dr. Michael Oswald purchased his fathers practice and Dr. Harold retired soon after the millennium. Dr. Lance Vander Giessen joined the practice in 2008. Drs Oswald and Vander Giessen (both alumni of University of Washington School of Dentistry — Go Huskies!) look forward to the future of dentistry.

Meet the Business Owner

Dr. Lance V.

Business Owner

Dr. Vander Giessen was born and raised in Lynden, WA. After marrying his high school sweetheart, Amanda, he finished his BS in biology from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ. During dental school at the University Washington School of Dentistry they welcomed their firstborn son. At graduation in 2008 they announced the coming of their second child, a daughter.

Both Dr. Vander Giessen and his wife wanted to be back in Whatcom County to raise their family. Together they enjoy camping, including a recent unforgettable trip to Yellowstone. The kids’ favorite memory was the mud pots.

In addition to being a member of the American Dental Association, the Washington State Dental Association, and Mount Baker District Dental Society, he is a member of a clinical study club: Robert L. Bruna Dental Seminar. This study club has been great to keep up to date with current dental materials and philosophies.

Whether it is hunting or hiking or fishing, Dr. Vander Giessen loves being outside.
