Mad Batter Cupcakes and Confections

I love this place. Every time we head up to Bellingham we have to stop here before heading home. Love their mini cupcakes. My son who doesn’t like sweet ate two. We had a variety but I still like chocolate the best.

I had always heard great things about this place but look what they gave me. We gave them our logo and told them to be creative with it. Its didn’t have to be perfect but what we got looks like they forgot about our order. I could have done a better job. I sent them the logo and this is what they gave me…

I really wanted to love this place! I feel like Bellingham is severely lacking when it comes to cupcakes and baked treats. I stopped in here with my mom on a Friday afternoon. The two girls working were very sweet and patient with us as we browsed the cupcake flavors. They had basic cupcake flavors that were offered every day (Vanilla, Chocolate, Red Velvet, Tuxedo) and then a few flavors of the day. I tried the Red Velvet and my mom got the Butterfinger. Each full size cupcake was $ 2.75 which I have seen other Unilocalers complain about but I feel is a fair price for a cupcake. The flavor of both cupcakes was excellent! Not too sweet with the perfect amount of rich chocolate flavor. I also loved the tangy cream cheese frosting as well as the peanut butter frosting. My mom thought the frosting was too sweet but I have a major sweet tooth so I didn’t mind. We really enjoyed them so we took four additional cupcakes home with us (Chocolate Salted Caramel GF, Vanilla, Chocolate and another Butterfinger). With such delicious flavor, why would I not rate Mad Batter higher? The texture of the cakes did not match their taste. All of the cakes that we tried were quite dry. This could be a recipe error or because the cakes were not fresh. If they were able to fix this problem, I would stop in more frequently!

I was a little disappointed by this little bakery. The woman working was not friendly, excited, or even super knowledgeable about the cakes. When I asked her what the flavors of the cake were she acted like it was obvious by the title (which it wasn’t… I’ve worked at a bakery before and both the cake and type of frosting are important parts of a cupcake that a consumer has a right to know). She was very lackluster and would not return based off of my interaction with her alone… You would think working at a cupcake shop you would be in a sweeter mood. However the two mini cupcakes I got were pretty good. The peaches and cream was delicious especially the cake. It did fall apart when I took the liner off though. The very berry was nothing special. The fresh blackberry on top was great but the buttercream had too much sugar and the cake the overly moist (I didn’t know this was such a thing). I also got the strawberry lemonade which tasted freshly squeezed and was really delicious! However I can find strawberry lemonade and a pretty good mini elsewhere where the service is much better.

A surprising thing happened today. The owner of mad batter came to my work and asked to see me. He had seen my poor updated review (my original review was their first and it was a great review) and wanted to make amends. He explained to me that the person working the last time I went in had used the wrong product key in the computer and that is why I had been overcharged. He apologized for the problem and assured me that he is working on getting everything sorted out. He then provided me with a refund and some extra cookies. While the refund and cookies are greatly appreciated they were not necessary, but the fact that he hunted me down to speak with me shows that he really cares about the business and his customers and wants to make things right. He asked that I give them another chance and I will do exactly that. Over the course of the next few months I will will stop by from time to time and then based on how things have changed (or not changed) I will be giving them another updated review. From the display the owner showed today I truly believe they will fix the issues they have been having lately and get back to the great little shop we all know they can be :)

We scored two coupons for free cupcakes and decided to try them out.
The place was nice and clean, girl at the counter was nice. There were only about 4 flavor a to choose from so that was a little disappointing. No biggie though.
The cupcakes were good, but nothing to get excited about.
All in all not bad, but we won’t be going back to spend that much for a cupcake that you can get in any grocery store with a half way descent bakery.

Came in today ¹¹⁄₂₃ to get a cupcake, card machine ran out of paper and the girl working there couldn’t figure out how to put paper in it. Every drink in the cooler was expired by 2 months, this place is terrible, the people that run this joint suck, do not come here under any circumstances.

Came here today with 2 friends and their 3 kids, got 6 cupcakes, 2 milk, and 3 soda. Cupcake was DELICIOUS ($ 2.75 a piece) and that’s about the only positive extent of our experience. 1 of the bottle of milk was expired by 6 week. SIX weeks! And the 3 bottles of coke expired a month ago. Pretty disgusting huh?
This is a small bakery/​store and the place was dead when we stopped by on a Sunday afternoon…

I use to go to Katie’s cupcakes at this location and was aware that Kate deiced to sell but selling to the new owner was a huge mistake. I went in yesterday and who I assume was the owner was so rude she acted like our questions about Kate was stupid and acted like we where a waste of space. Her employee that rang us up was just as rude! We are small business owners as well that means for me to post this I’m truly annoyed with how the owner and employees treated us. I think if someone is willing to spend over $ 20 on cupcakes in this competitive cupcake market you should at least pretend to be a nice person…
