LifeSafer Ignition Interlock

Garbage interlock device. Didn’t drink for 24 hours and it still failed me multiple times. Now I’m stuck with the device another 4 months. Should have went with intoxalock like i was suggested to do. Hustlers. They get an extra $ 450 from me if I keep it, and not transfer companies, but zero referrals will definitely cost them considering I have multiple friends in the market for an IID.

Terrible customer service and device! It killed my battery every day which caused me to lose my job (because I had to beg for jumps from strangers every morning) and buy a new battery. But because my battery kept dying that triggered the device to flash for service or I would be locked out in a couple days.
There are no locations in or near Seattle so I had to drive for at least 30 min to have it serviced during a weekday before 4pm. To make an appointment you have to call the call center on the east coast (so you have to call before 1pm) and wait on hold for almost an hour just to talk to someone who will then try to get you in — you can’t call around to individual shops yourself.
Also, I just went to the Everett shop and was told by a neighbor that no one has been working there for months. LifeSafer is a racket taking advantage of people who are forced to buy their products because of a DUI (for which I haven’t even had a trial for)! I would consider other options.

It was several months ago when I installed a LifeSafer ignition interlock device (IID) in my vehicle. I don’t know anyone else with one of these devices, but you’re required to have an IID for at least a year following certain driving offenses in Washington. Warning to new customers: This place can be tricky to locate even with GPS, and I have witnessed myself and others arrive just a little too late because of this. You *must* be on time for installation appointments, or you will have to be rescheduled. I don’t blame the installers, as installations are a lengthy process and they’re working a tight schedule.
My device started to malfunction within a day or two of installation, resulting in having to take every «rolling retest» three separate times before the device would register a pass and stop blowing up my eardrums. The malfunctioning started Friday and I had to wait out the weekend before I could come back and have the problem corrected. They ended up replacing the camera and something else, telling me the LifeSafer equipment in my vehicle was essentially new at this point. I haven’t had this issue since then, so it does seem they took care of the problematic components.
The employees will treat you nicely as long as you’re patient and polite, or at least this has been my experience. Keep in mind, these guys are in no way responsible for the hassle of you having to pay for and use the device, and nothing good can come of getting on their bad side. You come back for a log download and recalibration every 1 or 2 months, with the only disadvantage to the 2-​month interval being you pay a little more. Be prepared to pay with a card! They do not accept cash or checks.
Speaking of paying, you do have to pay for a violation, even if it was in error and you blow a 0.00% BAC five minutes afterward. Look for mouthwashes that don’t contain alcohol, and be careful about touching your hair if you use hairspray. You’ll get to watch the world’s most exciting training video during installation, which will go over the many dos and don’ts of the LifeSafer ignition interlock device. Don’t worry; your future appointments won’t take this long.
I’d recommend a portable breathalyzer for those of you that still plan on occasionally and responsibly drinking alcohol. It’s tricky to figure out exactly when alcohol in your system will be completely gone, and this device will detect and fail you at a very low level (0.025%). Think carefully before ordering that glass of wine or beer with your meal, and don’t drink heavily on nights where you have to drive the next morning.
An ignition interlock device isn’t intended to be convenient. This one, at least, is easy to use. The test involves exhaling into the mouthpiece while humming slightly for five seconds. I drive manual transmission and it still isn’t too bad. You’re told that you have a few minutes to pull off the road and stop in a safe place to retest, but let’s be honest: you’re not pulling over anywhere when you’re driving in Seattle’s heavy traffic. Before installation, I was concerned that I’d not be able to hear the beeping over my music, but it’s loud as hell and I can’t imagine that being a problem for anybody.
I even went on a road trip to Oregon, and although it was agitating having to blow into the device many times during the trip, it was bearable. It’s certainly a better option than driving illegally, or not driving at all. So far, LifeSafer appears to have been a good choice, and good motivation for myself and others to make good choices after our licenses no longer have this requirement.
