Seven Restaurant & Lounge

The ambiance of Seven nicer than many other restaurants in the Belleville area, but I don’t feel like the menu prices reflect the food itself. The quality is decent. I can’t say I’ve ever been blown away by anything here. I ordered their raspberry bistro salad and although I ate the entire thing (I was starving), something tasted left out. Their hummus was okay. The roasted red pepper flavor was there, but it was missing the kick. The servers were attentive for the most part. We went during the lull of the day and they both were preparing for the night crowd. Overall, I left satisfied and I’m sure I’ll be back.

Had the seven roll, hot spring roll, crab rangoon roll, and bellevegas roll. 4 rolls were enough for 2. Loved them all (the last two were great for that friend who’s afraid of trying sushi. Tasty!

I love this place. Lunch specials are the best. You can even substitute rolls for a little extra cost.

It’s a bar. It’s in Belleville. the onyl draw is that it isn’t filled with the Elks club crowd at most other bars in the downtown area.

I really enjoyed myself here. The atmosphere is great! The sushi was very good… I really liked the yummy yummy roll. I can’t wait to go back and try more rolls. Not a bad place for drinks either. They sure know how to make a martini.

By far the best restaurant (s) in town. Absolutely love their sushi, service and fact that a party can order from both menus. Excellent lunch specials.

Nice bar with good service. Great for a quick break from gambling in the Queen Casino. Bathrooms are clean and the have a great menu for a quick bite.
If staying the night in the hotel they do serve breakfast.

I dont know where the confusion is lying with this place. I went here for lunch today and it was definitely a sushi bar. There was no other menu except for sushi. It does look like a bar/​lounge on one side but its very classy and upscale. I really like the décor and ambience. The sushi was delish! My Filipino friend had been wanting sushi and i took her here because our Ither coworkers rave about this place and she really liked it and said the fish tasted pretty fresh. She ate raw fish so she is the better judge of that. I got hot sushi… the crab rangoon roll and a shrimp tempura roll which were both amazing! The price was good and they have good lunch specials. My only complaint is that the ginger dressing on the salad is mayo based… i dont like mayo and the salad was just lettuce. Get the miso soup instead with the lunch special. Needless to say… we plan on going once a week now lol

Final stop on tonight’s sushi crawl… We are pretty full at this point so we share the Belleville roll and top off the evening with the apple cheesecake roll. The Belleville was fantastic, the only baked roll we had in the evening. Slightly sweet, nice crunch, excellent flavor. Definitely recommend. The apple cheesecake roll was the perfect finish. Tart, sweet apples with a sweet filling, fried in a crispy shell. Delightful… A must try.
Great service, excellent atmosphere. Of the three places we tried tonight, this would be my pic to bring a date.

So seven is like the hipster place in Belleville. It has a great selection of food and drinks. I can’t remember what I’ve ate here. I know I had tried some sort of pasta and it was good. I mainly came here for drinks. They have cute dessert martinis that are delicious. My main reason I loved it was the bloody mary bar on the weekends. The way to cure a hang over is bloody mary’s. Belleville may not offer a lot, but places like this are hard to find and it’s a solid place.

Dine here in confidence! You and your party will be sure to get food poisoning that lasts for 3 days! If you LIKE getting food poisoning this is THE place for you! The manager is guaranteed to patronize you and insult your intelligence! The owners, ever eager to be their best will deny that anyone can ever get bad Sushi at their 3 star mediocre worse than a sushi buffet place!

Me and my boyfriend went there on a Thursday night and they had live music playing. It was a guitarist who played some slow oldies which I thought weren’t that bad. My boyfriend went upstairs to the upper bar area and bartender completely ragged on the guitarist. He said he fucking sucked ass and that it’s better up here where you can’t hear him play. I was so appalled that he could say such mean things. I though it was rude and uncalled for.
Our waitress was nice but the sushi wasn’t the best. The sushi itself wasn’t good enough for me to return and add that the bartender was so rude and you have completely lost me.

On Wednesday nights they offer $ 5 martini’s. Yes, please…
My friend have never had a martini. The menu was amazing and described all of them perfectly. Before we ordered we chatted with the server and she was delighted that my friend was having his first martini with them.
He had the Dreamsicle and I have the Chocolate Covered Strawberry. Both were delicious and a nice way to compliment and end our evening.
They also offer a Blood Mary bar on the weekends… Hmmm we will be back.

Had a beautiful lunch outside on the patio. Service was prompt and considerate. Thanks Tara. The wings at seven are not to be missed. My friend had sushi and loved it! Great lunch specials!

Cut to the short, this place delivers. The food, the crowd, the ambiance. I am not easily impressed and I don’t hesitate to send friends an endorsement to Seven. Thumbs up!

RE-​Review.
So have been trying to give this place a fairer shake. So have been back a couple of times since my last review.
Maybe the first few visits I just went on off nights?
First: this is NOT a sushi place. The sushi portion is separate (the two buildings do NOT connect) and is on a different street (around the corner)
Second: they have updated their cocktail menu. Thank goodness. More inspired drinks (they had some before — but if I remember correctly they were mainly chocolate based)
Third: what have I gotten recently (not all in one visit — clearly)?
Make your own burger: decent, but not the best… However, served with skinny fries and I am a sucker for skinny fries
Macho nachos — these have been on the menu for as long as I remember, however, last time I went (last night), the chicken was no longer shredded… Just chopped. Something about the shredding seemed better, but that’s likely an arbitrary preference
Chicken tenders — brought home to my dog. I did have one though. Not overly greasy (like some places where they’re almost wet) — have a crisp to them which is pleasant
Crème brûlée martini — my new fave (for there). Creamy and almost ice creamy… Masking the liquor taste… Could be dangerous ;)
Caramel apple martini — pretty yummy
All in all recent experiences have been way better than in the past… So had to bump them up a couple of stars. Now worth a visit to Illinois.

Awesome sushi! Definitely recommend the specialty spicy ginger, Awesome! The normal spicy tuna, however, was not something to be desired. Would absolutely return for the specialty sushi and great service!

Situated in Downtown Belleville, right next door to a sushi place you would not expect much from them. They have an artsy vibe as soon as you walk inside. If not a live person playing, good music and pictures adorning the walls (even the bathrooms).
They had a decent beer selection though they were out of what I wanted. I decided in the end to go with a martini. Good choice. The boyfriend and I had a hummus plate, delicious. The chicken curry sandwich was total yummm. I cannot remember what he had but he really enjoyed it as well.
I think we will be returning here. Great place for drinks and a simple lunch but good lunch.

While downtown Belleville isn’t as trendy as, say, the Washington Avenue district in St. Louis, places like Seven Restuarant & Lounge and The Wine Tap have done much to improve the atmosphere in downtown Bellleville.
If nothing else, they’ve raised the bar for other other drinking establishments in the city.
I often visit Seven after work, and it has a good selection of beers and spirits. In addition, staff members like Amanda, Valerie, Becca, James and Doug make people feel very welcome and are knowledgable.
The food at Seven is very good! Unlike a lot of eating establishments in Belleville, Seven isn’t afraid to use spices to enhance their dishes, and the cooks know how to hit the right balance. Even with something simple like a burger, Seven hits the right balance of spices to make its burger more distinctive than other burgers in the metro-​east.
I particularly enjoy the Cajun Shrimp Pasta, the Shrimp Grinder and the Gumbo. Again, these dishes has the right amount of seasoning.

Seven is a restaurant and lounge that tries to bill itself as hip and trendy. I guess it IS pretty trendy for Belleville, and apparently it’s the newest place in town to be seen… but I’m not as impressed.
It is well-​intentioned. The space is narrow, but long, and the owners did the best that they could with it. There is an outside patio and the first floor has an eating area and a bar. The upstairs is a repeat of the first floor, except the emphasis is more on the eating area. The concept should work well, but here it doesn’t. On busy nights, Seven is just a cacophonic mess of noise… music, tv talk, dishes, and clientele talk. It’s just too much going on at one time.
Several of us went on such a night. The waitstaff was scurrying around and told us to seat ourselves. That really wouldn’t have been a problem, but there were really no clean tables available. Finally, one of the waitstaff cleared off several tables that a baby shower party group had just vacated.
We ordered appetizers. Both the coconut shrimp and the crabcakes were decent, but they were smaller than what I would have liked, considered the price (both $ 7).
My dining companions ordered a wrap and a salad respectively. They said that they were good. I should have stuck with something basic. I went with the mussels served with fries. It was a total nightmare. It definitely was a pound of mussel shells, but the mussels themselves were mostly missing. I would have to say that about 30% of them were just shells. And the fries were pretty cold. That might have something to do with the fact that our waitress brought out my friends’ entrees about 10 minutes before mine.
It’s probably a great place just to hang out and talk… in other words, it works better as a lounge than a restaurant. The alcohol is good, the atmosphere is pounding, and you don’t really mind when the waitstaff brings your drinks twenty minutes after you’ve ordered them. But if you’re looking for a dining experience, pass and keep looking.
