Description

History

Established in 2013.

Before Alivio Open Mic began, a few friends in the cities of Bell and Huntington Park worked together to organize an open mic to reflect the beauty of Southeast Los Angeles. This event was titled «Microfono Libre».

Alivio Open Mic was born in the month of January 2014. Since the day it began, it has offered hundreds of community residents, poets, singers, activists, collectives, and first timers the platform to share their words and talent.

Meet the Manager

Eric E.

Manager

I created this space to give the community of Southeast LA a center point to share and celebrate themselves without needing to extract their talent, ideas, words, and visions to other sides of Los Angeles. Because our areas are so full of life, but lacking platforms, it is difficult for people to unite and strive for community collaboration, change and progress. We need more people power in our community, but people power can only occur when people have a place to meet face to face. I also created the space so we could change the mentality that success only happens when you leave the «hood» and instead instill the mentality that «it takes the hood to raise the hood.»

There are countless other reasons why I created this space, but we can have one on one conversations about them when you come to Alivio.
