Generation X Comics and Games

I love this place. I get my weekly comics, games, and nerd gear here on a regular basis. The staff is always really nice and they answer questions, help me preorder things, etc. I also attend quite a few of their tabletop and comic events. There are usually fun games and promotions during these events. The staff even knows me by name now. I drive out of my way to buy all my stuff at Gen X — I won’t go anywhere else.

I went in here with my wife to buy a couple of board games. We first went in to purchase Small World. But then we saw War of the Ring. I had read it was hard to find and I really wanted to play it. It was around 80 or 90 dollars which seemed fair for all that you got in the game. Well I got on my phone to reply to a text message and then went to check out. Well the owner made an assumption and basically said he would «allow us to buy War of the Ring since we were buying another game at full price.» Wow. Thank you sir for allowing us to buy something from your store. He thought we were going to turn around and post it on ebay because I checked my phone. Well, you know what they say about assuming… We enjoyed War of the Ring and never went back. You can’t treat people like that and expect them to return.

This place has been around for a long time. They have good stock of games available.
The only problem is that the owner typically has an attitude. Over the years I’ve gone to this place less and less because the owner is just plain rude.
Now days I don’t go here at all anymore. With Madness in Plano, Common Ground Games in Dallas and Roll 2 Play in Coppell, there’s no reason to put up with this guys bad attitude anymore.

It’s easy to write less than positive reviews on the internet and then forget about them. But I am happy to admit when things have changed for the positive.
I recently visited Gen-​X again after a few years away and I can admit that a lot of what I had issues with at their old shop and wrote about in my review on their closed business page has improved. It stills leans more towards the «fanboy» than the «newbie» (not quite so welcoming sometimes and make you feel like you are being watched to make sure you don’t steal something) but the new store is fantastic and the gaming crowd have taken this place to a new level.
Happy to come here again and buy comics/​geek swag.

Drove from Dallas to attend my first Friday Night Magic. Staff was very friendly and accommodating in getting me started and on my way. Met some really awesome people while playing as well.
The store itself is HUGE and seems like there is a little something for everyone there. Makes the commute from Dallas a little more enjoyable.

As a comic book store you would think that this type of business does lots of trading. Well I was given a Harley Quinn hoodie as a gift and it ended up being too small. Well, I had seen that this place sold the exact same ones and was wanting to trade mine for a size that fit. Well, I was told that because it wasn’t purchased at their shop, they couldn’t trade it. THEY’RE A FUCKING COMIC BOOK STORE!!! THATS WHAT THEY DO. Ok, yeah, that was upsetting because I was fixing to drop a few $ 100 on other purchases but I guess they don’t want or need my business.
Also, I felt like I was being stereotyped because I’m a female and I look younger than I actually am. The dude looked at me like I was a spawn of Brainiac or Darkseid.

This place is incredibly huge, stuffed to the gills with action figures, comics, graphic novels, t-​shirts, back issues, board games, figurines, and other merchandise. Like many comic book shops, roughly a third of the space is allocated for table-​top gaming.
The place is not quite as massive as Madness Comics and Games in Plano, which remains my gold standard for the DFW area but it comes pretty darn close.
I’m not a huge fan on comic shops that are mostly rely on gaming tournaments to bring in their bread and butter but I do realize that many include such game space just to stay business. I will admit my little nerd boner suddenly deflates when I realize the focus is more on games and the shop owners don’t carry vinyl figurines.

Having to drop a star due to a trend I’ve noticed in my time coming here. On my first review I noted that I had been asked loudly from across the store that no drinks be allowed … I’ve noticed on many visits here that there is a or a couple employees that enforce that rule by speaking loudly across the store. I agree with the rule, as well as some of the others I’ve seen posted, but not shouting across the store to get a point across.
Many moons ago I worked in a store that sold hermit crabs & would have to get on small kids that parents were not supervising them or annoying teens for messing around with them. I think we would have a lot of crabs running loose in the store if my co-​workers & I just shouted across the store at them … I could invison a drink dropping & spilling stuff getting broken if someone jumps at being shouted at for breaking a rule … Which I figure is why some of the rules are there for.

Easily the best comic store in the DFW area. Selection is great, back issue comics, shirts, everything in the comics, gaming and sci fi realm covered from top to bottom from mugs and shirts, to kids books and novelty items. Insanely large selection of trade paperbacks as well. They moved from a smaller store and now the place is laid out perfectly! !

I’m going to start by saying that I dislike giving a poor review. I utilize Unilocal to compliment delicious restaurants, and other establishments. Most of the time if I experience poor service somewhere, or bad food, I simply don’t go there again. I felt the need to describe the experience I had here today, because I have heard the same kind of situations from others, and because I have never had a retail person treat me so poorly. Based on his description, I believe it was the store owner I had an issue with today. On top of having incredibly high prices, both times I’ve been in the shop, employees were somewhat insulting. I was constantly watched throughout my first visit, as if they were suspicious that I was going to pocket something, and as soon as I picked up a hat to examine, was stopped by the employee watching me to be reminded in an ugly tone that customers are not permitted to try on headwear. I was nowhere near putting the item on my head– not only was a perfectly visible sign posted right by the item telling you not to, I was considering it for my seven year old. I decided against paying thirty dollars for the beanie, settled for a twenty dollar card game, and left. My boyfriend later found the same game for ten dollars elsewhere. The store owner is fond of telling customers that they are more than welcome to make purchases elsewhere, according to people I know. Today I took an hour lunch to patronize the shop in hopes of finding stocking stuffers. I found one item while perusing, when someone came in the door and I heard the chime that goes off when the door is opened. The chime is identical to the chime that goes off in the game Batman: Arkham Asylum when the Joker is about to make an announcement, and what with being in a COMIC BOOK store, I chuckled, assuming it was on purpose. I walked over to the man behind the counter to purchase my item and ask him about the chime, and he immediately assumed an extremely aggravated expression, waved his hands in front of him, and with an exasperated tone, immediately interrupted my question to tell me he didn’t know. I offered an embarrassed smile and tried to tell him I was sorry, It’s just that it sounded like… but he continued to shake his head and tell me he didn’t know, a blatant expression of disgusted annoyance on his face. As I stood right in front of him, outright rejected in the middle of a statement, he turned away. I stood for a minute grasping the situation, and then walked back to the shelf to return the item I had been poised to purchase, and left, knowing he’d see me leave empty handed, probably assuming I was pocketing the item I wanted to buy. The man was alone at the counter, not helping anyone, not apparently engaged in any activity, and he acted as if I had stomped on his toe, and broken his merchandise. Never again. I give one star, for variety of merchandise alone, because you have to put at least one.
UPDATE: After talking to a few people I know who have had varying experience with this store owner, combined with the reviews listed here, I’ve been trying to figure out exactly what it is that causes this store’s (especially this man’s) professionalism to wax & wane. It finally clicked when looking at each consumer’s appeal. Casual shoppers in this store are treated very poorly. You apparently have to be locked in to a hard core genre to be considered with respect or even regarded as a person to be treated fairly. If you’re purchasing pop-​culture items or coming in to peruse, you’re gonna have a bad time. It really sucks, because I really would like to shop here with it being so close to my house, but I’m a human being who hates being humiliated by a shopkeeper just as much as the next guy. The more I think about how discriminatory this guy is, the more it makes me want to curse. I’ve got a HOT piece of advice for you sir, in case someone mistakes you as a person who wants to know: If you don’t want the type of clientele who purchase average pop culture items, it might GREATLY benefit you to not offer it in your FLIPPING store. Even more effective, don’t display it in your FREAKING windows. I hadn’t even been given the opportunity to be a bad customer. I wasn’t given the opportunity to be annoying or stuck-​up. I’m a nice person, unassuming, and I try to see the good in everyone– I try to offer a smile to everyone. I approached your counter with a smile. I wasn’t even given the opportunity to finish my first sentence to you. And it burns me up that some people can come in and be treated great, because you like what they’re into, and others can be humiliated right in the middle of your store, in front of other shoppers. Psychologically, it seems a little more like you’re trying to surround yourself with like-​minded people in your own environment because you’re lonely, and you can pretend like you have friends. Maybe getting revenge from high school? You’re mistreating the wrong people.

Our family came upon this comic book store several months ago. The first time we came in one of the workers came up behind my daughter and said, «MA’AM! You are not allowed to have a drink in here.» This scared her and at that time we sort of laughed it off and complied with the rules. Although, the way it was addressed by the worker was totally unnecessary and rude. A little girl should not be frightened by a worker like that. Today, we had the another situation with the same employee. I was going to buy her Batman shoes and she sat down to try one of them on. He walked up behind her and said, «MA’AM! You are not going to try shoes on!» She was not only startled, but so was I. Rather than explaining at the time why she couldn’t try them on he stood over her like the store body guard. The other employees explained to me that if the shoes didn’t fit they could be brought back, but could not be tried on. This makes no sense, but I’ll accept the policy. What I won’t tolerate is my daughter being startled and scared by a bully employee. We used our gift card for the store today and spent $ 30 more dollars. That will be the last business we give this store. There are plenty of competitors for us to give our monthly comic book spending allowance on without having to deal with rudeness.
Update: I appreciated the manager Tabitha for the apology and hope the employee Josh thinks about the way he handles customers. This is the first time my daughter has ever been reprimanded by anyone, but us because she is taught to conduct herself appropriately. Seeing her in tears over a drink was over the top. She had no idea this was a rule nor did she realize trying on shoes was not allowed. ;)

Solid location to pick up games and comics. They have a lot of different options that I feel like I could bring someone here who wants to get me something I’d like and they almost can’t go wrong. They’ve got T-​shirts, glasses, toys, board games, card games, sleeves, playmats… everything, really.
I often riff on here about many shops being overrun by Magic: the Gathering. Generation X Comics certainly is a spot where Magic will be played on Friday nights… or any other time of day/​week. That said, they have a lot to offer and seem to draw crowds beyond just your standard Magic players. I had a great conversation with some other gamers at this store and it seems like those who do dabble into Magic are interested in other games as well.
Generation X has perhaps the best priced goods, usually undercutting many DFW businesses by about 2%. Doesn’t sound like much, but it adds up. Combine a solid central location and some delicious food next door and you have a winning combination that would keep me coming back for more.

My new favorite place to go to after work. The staff there are very nice and they know what they are talking about when it comes to comics and games. Only problem with this store is its short supply of manga. It have some naruto and pokemon manga but I prefer more variety and better manga. But that won’t stop me from coming here

Best comic store I’ve been too. Period. Huge selection of stuff for all ages. My kids loved their first experience in a comic store.
Only complaint is owner needs to work on his people skills a little, he always seems annoyed. I use to shop here long ago (at their old location) and after moving away and back again I had forgotten this. You can tell he doesn’t like small children, and he is just short with you and even more so with them.
That being said he still has a really good comic /​game store, loyal customers in there playing various games. I’d recommend the store.

My favorite comic book store, hands down. Friendly, excellent help by Craig! There was a sale (50% off!) the day I happened to go, and they had the WicDiv issue I’ve been looking for… Score!

This Unilocal focuses on Generation X’s new location on Harwood and 121. Very pleased to see that Gen X focused on the comics in their moniker. Why, sure, gaming features prominently in this store (several tables are usually populated even at the slowest hours of the week), but Generation X ensured that the new and back issue sections were well organized. I have a faint memory of the old storefront on Industrial, but I must say this new location is more attractive, more consumer friendly. I was able to fill some holes in my collection after locating some needed missing issues. Great selection of card and tabletop games, as well as collectibles and TPBs, many of which are value-​priced. One of the better game and comic shops on this side of DFW – very much worth a visit!

Great place and friendly staff… been going to gen x for awhile. First at the old location and at the new one. It is close to my home and I have been having great fun at the MLP games on thursday.
Also gotten great shirts like my bombshell WW one and other great collectibles and toys.
Highly recommend for everyone

This is the comic book store I’ve been waiting for! I’m almost embarrassed at the time I’ve spent trying out other local comic stores without even realizing Generation X existed. This store is comparatively HUGE and the service was far and above the best customer service I’ve received at a comic book store to date.
So here’s how my visit went: I walk in, I’m immediately greeted. Shortly after that, another employee asks what I’m looking for. He helps me look in all possible locations, then looks it up and determines they are out of it (as is EVERY other comic book store in a 15 mile radius). However he, unlike any other store I visited, immediately offers to order it for me. Then tells me if I have 5 books I regularly read, they’ll pull comics for me weekly. THEN he recommends some things I would like based on the comics I added to my pull list!
I have not received this level of service anywhere else local. Quite the opposite, I’ve left many comic stores feeling like I received substandard service. Because I’m a woman, because I’m not immediately identifiable as a nerd, or because they just suck at customer service — who knows? Gratefully, I felt nothing less than total respect and appreciation for my potential business at Generation X. They definitely hooked me into coming back here every Wednesday, knowing all my comics will be set aside under my name and ready to go.
Additionally, this store just had everything you could dream of. A HUUUUGE wall of board games, shirts, tchotchkes, puzzles, they even have a children’s section of graphic novels and comics. Awesome.
They also had a huge gaming section with tables galore for those of you that are into that. I’m just happy to have a found a store that had almost everything in stock I wanted, was happy to order anything I needed, and promised to memorize my name within the next few visits. I so look forward to becoming a regular here!

Friendly staff, spacious layout, and lots of fun stuff, from board games to cards to various action figures to, yes, comic books, Generation X is a great place to spend a few hours either gaming or browsing the wares. I don’t know if the rude employee mentioned in earlier reviews no longer works here or if it was his day off, but each of the employees who approached us was very nice. Either way, we’ll keep shopping for all our nerdy-​fun needs here.

The guys working were really friendly. They ask you if you need help to find something and if you say no they leave you alone instead of glomming on like other places.
If you do need help with something, they’re really helpful. They’re knowledgeable with their products as well, which is always a definite plus.
There’s a lot of stuff in the store, from comics to graphic novels to action figures and busts to RPG and wargaming stuff. As a nerd, I was in pure heaven.
They also have a small section devoted to kids if you want to bring your kid along or are looking for a gift for your kid.
Really cool place with a nice atmosphere. I wasn’t able to get into table top gaming they had going on (there were several people playing various games when I walked in) but they had a nice calendar detailing upcoming events they were hosting. I can’t wait to check out in better detail the gaming scene they have.
