Howard Sargeant, the Lakes Gas Co. president and founder, started his career as an acquisitions director for a major oil company. In 1959, he purchased the Harguth Oil Company and grew the small operation in Forest Lake, Minnesota into the 12th largest retail marketer of propane in the U.S.
