This is the best place to get all of my favorite snacks :) I grew up on Oahu and love that I can actually find the yummy foods I miss. They have a great selection and very helpful employees who (if you’re nice: P) will recommend new recipes!
I also dig their awesome, unique items that make great gifts (Yay, happy un-​birthday Crystal). Their book and magazine area is cool too. I can get lost and spend too much time there lol
Uwajimaya is an experience rather than simply a place to buy groceries. Don’t forget to take advantage of their events throughout the year :)
And for those still students (sad face for graduating PSU), don’t forget that you get a 10% discount showing your ID on Friday nights!

This place is always a delight. The Seattle one is amazing, but Beaverton has its own perks. Great selection– I’m able to find anything I need for certain recipes. Plus, the beef and onion bowl from the deli is perfect– sweet and savory.

Worst customer service I have ever received. After standing in «line» for over 10min the staff are absolutely worthless. They ignore you in my specific case pretended I wasn’t even there. Slowest and most unprofessional service I never received. The getleman did stop to help the cute 20 something — going out of his way to help her get a drink, despite her having just walked up. Watched 4 people walk away out of frustration while I waited. Pretty evident they don’t care one bit about all customers. Only a select few.
The warm cooked food sat on the counter uncovered and getting cold this entire time and all I wanted was to order the siopao that was sitting there. Employees were lackadaisical and completely ignored the fact that people wanted to order something.
Will not be coming back to this place to eat.

This is the best Japanese market in the States. I wish we had one in Los Angeles. The produce selection here is top notch and the fresh fish selection is out of this world. Check out the snack aisle for all kinds of delicious treats. Around the Holidays — if you spend more than $ 100 — you get a free calendar and it’s gorgeous. I love this place and can’t wait to come back on my next trip to Oregon.

Love the fresh fish and the variety of teas. The produce is always nice. The only thing is the price of Salmon… man. It’s a wee bit much!

Uwajimaya is the bee’s knees! There are not many gigantic (and super clean) one-​stop shop Asian supermarkets in Oregon, so I always make sure to stop by Uwajimaya when I’m in/​around the Portland metro area. It’s where I load up on instant milk teas, green tea Kit Kat bars, boxes of natto, curry pastes, udon and soba noodles, tropical fruits, seasonings, ramens and vinegars. It’s also home to Kinokuniya Bookstore– the prime place to fangirl out on plush Totoro stuffed animals, graphic novels, Japanese stationary, origami paper, and food-​shaped erasers.
Uwajimaya also houses a fantastic home goods/​kitchenware section, which features everything from Zojirushi rice cookers and thermoses, to high quality Japanese incense, artful porcelain dinnerware, and adorable-​ass bento boxes that should make any of your coworkers envious. Literally, nothing is cooler than bringing your lunch in a two-​tiered box that looks like a Harajuku doll (or is this why I had no friends in elementary school???)
The food court is even more dreamy– a vast, fragrant plain of unagi, teriyaki chicken and sukiyaki donburi, spam and pork belly musubi, umeboshi and tuna onigiri, sashimi and sushi rolls, ahi, salmon and tako poke, and Japanese curries. I never leave without grabbing a couple (or five) portable musubi to nom on on the way home.
Finally, make sure you check out the weekly sales– Uwajimaya’s prices are already competitive, but the sales make many of the items (esp. the snacks & candies) steals.

Good fish. Fresh crab, clams, muscles. Nice collection of Asian foods– spices, sauces, noodles, cookies, u name it, they have it.
Plus they have other kitchen items, tools, gadgets, cookware.
The only con is, it’s little more expensive, but they have friendly and helpful staff.

Been wanting to come here a long time, was so happy to find such an amazing selection of Asian goods and Hawaii-​based brands! Kinokuniya carries a good selection of animé goods and Japanese magazines. Pleasantly surprised to find hot manapua (nikuman/​steam buns) and spam musubis offered, as well as Japanese bentos. Well worth the trip from Eugene, will be back in the very near future!

Have you ever wanted to go visit Asia for free? This store seems to kind of do that for you.
It is HUGE and chalk full of so many different asian and islander food items, knick knacks, books, kitchen ware, bags of rice, bags of rice, oh and a great selection of rice. ;)
(I’m a rice fiend, so I enjoyed the copious selection)
They even have a Beard Papa (awesome cream puffs) and a hot food bar that had a huge selection of steamed buns. i need to come back for that!
Also, if you like ice cream mochi, I discovered a Kona coffee flavor that I’d never had before and it was AMAZING.
If you want to spend a few hours experiencing something unique, you should check this market out.

They have everything asian here. Huge selection. Clean store. Organized. Friendly staff. Nice japanese store on the side. Nice bakery near the front. Fresh cooked food next to the fresh seafood.
Cons — for everything nice, you are paying for it. Most expensive priced for an asiab market. Meat selection isnt great and near over priced.
But there was just somethings carried here that other places dont.

Love coming to this place for the Japanese food and gifts. Makes you feel like you’re in Japan. Prices are quite high, but this is the only place you’ll find many Japanese and Asian ingredients and products. I love checking out their gift shop. Good quality products and love their bakery and sushi sashimi selections.

Unique gifts from Asian countries. My Niece appreciated all of the Hello Kitty items. There were a ton to choose from: stuffed animals, cups, key chains, stickers, tape, backpacks, the list goes on.
Beautiful selection of bowls: traditional blue and white designs, some hand thrown looking, matte and glossy glazes.
The store is visually stimulating and could couple take hours to comb through looking for the right gift.
They also have a wide variety of sake, fresh fruit, vegetables, pastries, and live seafood.
The deli counter is friendly with an assortment of ready to eat dishes; fried shrimp, fish, chin mien, chicken, etc. at reasonable prices and generous portions.
The sitting area is a little worn, and could use cleaning, as well as chair and table repair, so I would recommend taking the food from the deli to go.

Shelves and shelves and shelves of sake. Beautiful, gorgeous bottles of sake.
This place is Disney World for the home cooking enthusiast, which I am, except for when I’m not. I go in waves. Like most people. But if I were suddenly struck with a need to break out the wok and make a stir fry, what would I do if I did not have a half dozen different bottles of sauces I never knew existed before visiting Uwajimaya? And what is a stir fry without a selection of noodle possibilities that span an entire aisle?
Between the noodles and the sake, there was no way I was exiting the store easily. The Bud finally had to steer me to the check out line as our Saturday was wasting away, and the only thing we had to show for it was a cart half-​full of sake and some ramen. All in all, a successful Saturday if you ask me.

The best Asian market in Oregon! As a UO student, my friends and I have driven 2 hours to this location a few times just to eat and shop here!
Being from Hawaii, I constantly miss ahi poke and other asian snacks! There are so many types of poke that it makes it perfect to order as a poke bowl (with rice) and enjoy it as a meal in the store’s eating area.
If you’re looking for ANYTHING asian food related here, there’s a very high chance that Uwajimaya will carry it!

Uwajimaya is out of my way, but I could definitely drive out of my way to get my Asian goodies. I was able to buy some decent matcha green tea, stock up on staple pantry items. The meat selection was impressive and affordable. Uwajimaya carries Carlton farms pork and Painted hills beef. Two of my favorite.
There were some ice cream flavors, I wanted to try. I’d probably would have to buy some dry ice, or find some way to cart frozen goods in my hot car for the 30 minute drive home.
We came late in the evening, the hot food items looked dry and old. I’d love to hit them up for lunch, one day. Decently priced fish, and unusual items such as fish tips and ends for stock or soup.
I’ll have to bring a cooler, or some dry ice next time. Great produce selection. The nice thing about Asian grocers; they’re cheaper than the supermarket. I spent $ 50. Easy to spend, a lot, when there’s a plethora of choices.

Uwajimaya is a wonderland of Asian ingredients. This place is more than just a market. Attached is a bookstore and they have many non-​food items to sift through. If you are new to these types of ingredients the staff is more than helpful. We had a gentleman follow us around to help us stock our pantry with staples. He was so polite and patient. Not only did he locate our products but he explained their properties as well. He was a sight for sore eyes in a place of foreign ingredients. He instantly made me feel unintimidated by the products.
I shopped from oyster sauce to miso paste, from fermented soy beans to Chinese cabbage, from a new wok to dried black fungi. I stocked up my noodle supply. A whole isle of wheat, buckwheat, egg, rice and bean noodles. Twenty minutes of noodle shopping fun! I bought all of my staple pantry ingredients for Asian cooking with only a small hit to my bank account and a bunch of bags to tote home. I am confident that consistent high turn over rate of product allows them to keep their prices low. I felt good for once about the amount of money that I spent after leaving a store. I also found everything that I wanted. No stopping at other stores on the way home!
It is worth the thirty minute trip for me to stock up. What a gem this store is. I am going back to stock up on gifts next. Heck, I would go back just for fun!

Our must go to place when we come to portland. We always hit the fresh poke, then hit the produce for luau leaf! This is the only place we know of that has these things.
We enjoy looking up every isle to find all our favorite snacks, seasonings, sweets and goodies :) its so hard to leave the store under $ 100.
Some of the prices seem a little high for some of the items, but we end up paying the price since we dont have an asian store near us, and shipping from hawaii (home) would be just as much as buying it here and have it now!

I don’t know where to begin… hands down this is my favorite grocery store, and one of the things I truly miss from the west side (west side pride, y’all).
My favorite aspects of this place include:
1. The eggplant, tofu combo and other hot, ready-​to-​eat deli items.
2. I love watching the crabs and clams (though the clams are a bit less frisky).
3. Boy Bwang! (in spicy garlic and HOT). Boy Bwang is the Asian Corn Nutz, with the same crunch style, but not as hard. I got one of my grad school friends so addicted that she ordered a crate from overseas. The Boy Bwang logo features a steroid-​addled, anthropomorphic garlic bulb with steam coming out of his ears, his white-​gloved hands balled up into fists: I love food that wants to fight me!
4. Mini-​roasted broad beans – my all-​time favorite snacky-​poo, and difficult to find regularly, even here. The garlic flavor is not glossed on to the bean like salt, but sunk into the very bones of the tiny, pea-​sized flava bombs.
5. Sapporo DARK – not the piss water lighter stuff, but the mellow, brown ale. Mmmmmm. This is the only place I’ve seen it sold other than Yuzu. I don’;t care if it is… like…$ 12 a six pack. Worth it!
6. Hot pot thin sliced beef and pork. I don’t know why, but I can’t leave here without several of these, even with no clear clear plan for what I’m doing with them.
7. Pea shoots, love the pea shoots.
8. The little shop in back with all the Hello Kitty swag, the apothecary, pots and pans.
Love it, love it, love it!

I’m so addicted to this store, even though a lot of common items are expensive or overpriced here (especially the produce!)
What I love about this store is that you can find stuff here that’s hard to find in a regular grocery store. Whenever I’m in the area, I stop here just to walk around and see what all they have. And, of course, I end up buying stuff that I hadn’t planned on, because I like to try new things.
My two favorite things to buy here are duck (frozen or whole cooked) and packaged Yakisoba noodles. The noodles are made locally, so I like that. And they will last at least a month in the fridge, if the package is un-​opened.
The vegetables/​produce is very expensive here compared to regular grocery stores, even for regular easy to find items like carrots, cabbage, green beans, mushroons, grapes, etc. And the fruit is frequently over-​ripe. This week they had mangos on sale and there was a huge bin, but I could only find two mangos that weren’t mushy!

Asian Markets are my thing! Although I love Salem’s Asian stores they cannot compare with the enormous variety of foods, fresh produce, books, kitchenware, and super squeally cute stuff that Uwajimaya has.
My reason for shopping there today was to prepare for the new year, specifically the Japanese new year, which requires ingredients for ozoni which is a traditional Japanese good luck new year’s soup. I was so happy to find gobo and fresh mizuna! Those two ingredients are so hard to find in Oregon.
I accidentally spent about 2 million dollars on things that just fell into my cart. Things like sake, another bottle of sake, ramen, assortments of adorable little plastic sushi molds, cartoon character training chopsticks, mochi ice cream, and… boy, those shopping carts are too small.
They also have a Beard Papa’s in-​store where you can get a freshly made cream puff or you can get a piping hot Manapua (pork steamed bun), musubi, yes, they have spam musubi! Or a plate lunch or poke bowl. They will be doing traditional Japanese mochi pounding January 3^rd which is mochi made the best way possible. If you like local style Hawaii food or any kind of Asian food you will find so many delicious options that your wallet will scream for mercy. If you haven’t been, go visit them now!
