Taste of Sichuan

I’m not the biggest fan of Chinese restaurants within the US, and I say within the US because I assume authentic Chinese food isn’t as fried and full of just meat with sauce…
I don’t like ordering just a plate of meat, but I love this place because unlike some Chinese food places, this one is family style. So you can order multiple dishes to satisfy everyone’s taste.
I highly recommend getting the Steamed Dumplings, DELISH! The shredded potato and the sweet and sour were the best dishes we tried.
I would say epic fail on General Tso’s, but the walnut shrimp and beef with broccoli were all good dishes as well.
This place is great for groups and always busy. I would like to see them clean up the oustide, it’s not very pleasing to the eye and when I realized this was named on the 101 best places by the Oregonian recently, I went «but they can’t even replace a broken garbage can?».
So please clean up the outside to reflect the yummy food on the inside.

Sometimes there can be language barriers that can affect the service-​NOT TODAY.
He was so friendly, professional, and fantastic to everyone.
I visited today for lunch and he was extremely busy; however, he waited on me as if I was his only customer. He was professional and friendly. He suggested a plate to try and he even came back to make sure the food was to my liking.
When I asked for a box he politely told me that he would be right back and he was! Being that busy many have forgotten!
This to me is going beyond his duties and makes him one of the best servers. I do hope that he gets recognized for being such an excellent and hard working employee.

I really resisted coming to this place because I was told how spicy everything was and while I don’t mind it, my heartburn does! However, I’ve been here twice now and I have to say, the food is very good, filled with spice, but not necessarily hot-​spicy! If you tell them not spicy, it comes full of flavor, but with little heat. The service was excellent! The place is clean and the prices are comparable with some of the other places I’ve been. Overall, I’ll come back again.

I would give it three stars, but this is coming from someone whom lives in the bay area right now where the Chinese food is awesome. But overall for Oregon, I was expecting this restaurant to be terrible with the name, but it was not that bad and I would say it is okay in my book considering it is in Oregon. We went here on a recommendation from my co-​worker at Intel and had a team dinner. My boss ordered for us and picked the dishes we normally get. The only dish I would not recommend is the fried pawns. They used too much batter on that one and tasted like it was from the fair. The string beans and eggplant was pretty good. The fish hot was great too and the chicken dishes were good, but would not recommend the chicken that was battered for some reason it tasted funny. Overall I wanted to try the dry frog and the pork belly ribs, but my boss wanted to order which is fine by me :)

Also I don’t eat rice and they gave me no option for a noodle substitute even though I said to pay extra
So ended eating only one option available in the whole menu. Chowmein
In general, would not come here unless their menu is updated and quick service.

I would have given this place a 5 star 6mos ago but something has changed. The chef (probably new or lost his/​her taste) uses too much of the peppercorn now. It’s to the point where everything starts to taste metallic. It use to be just right but it’s changed.
I always order the swimming fish in fire soup and beef tendon and crab. And it’s always been the same year after year. But now, it’s too salty and too much peppercorn in everything that calls for it.
I think this may be my last visit for a while… I’ll let it simmer down and be hopeful that they’ll remediate the taste of their menu.

I’m not sure what I was served at lunch. Ordered Chicken with Cashew Nuts but got stir fried chicken skins in an overly sweet hoisin style sauce. Nothing on the menu says ‘stir fried chicken skins’
My error to not send it back! Person taking the order was not the person serving the food! Real lapse in communication!

I’ve tried this place 3 times & 3^rd strike is out. I will never go back. Dust everywhere around the seating area on shelves and blinds, floors and seating sticky, bathrooms too disgusting to put in words on line, food not vegetarian friendly and service is rude and arrogant that they dont care or need your business because there is a long waiting line to keep them in business.

The best Chinese food I have had in the Portland metro area. They often times mess up my order by forgetting an entrée but I look beyond because of the great food.

This is one of the best Chinese restaurants I’ve been to in the area!
I came in with my grandmother Sunday afternoon and was seated within 5 minutes. The hostess and our server were both professional and friendly.
We ordered cashew chicken with fried rice, hand shaved noodles with ground pork, and the green onion pancakes. Everything was very flavorful and tasted like it was made with good quality ingredients.
They have a huge menu full of exciting and unique Sichuan dishes. I would recommend it to anyone looking for interesting and spicy Chinese food.

Authentic Chinese cuisine not bad Hillsboro not bad.
Packed during lunch hour i can only imagine the weekends and dinner time.
They have amazing lunch deals which includes: a bit of salad, cup of soup (sweetsaour or eggdrop) and an entrée

You can feed 3 people with just two lunch choices, we ordered three and we had food left!

Try my favorite Egg Foo Young, the cakes are made fresh. The House Fried Rice is reach with all kinds of meat.

Best Chinese food I’ve had in the Beaverton/​Portland area.
Service was excellent
and Prices for lunch were super reasonable. I can’t wait to go back and try the rest of the items.

This is definitely the most authentic Chinese food you’ll find in the Bethany area. My family (first-​generation Chinese immigrants, for context) and our friends come here pretty frequently. I personally think that quality control in the kitchen is shoddy, as there’s a wide variation in quality between dishes and visits.
A few usually good bets: steamed pork belly, tea smoked duck, xiao long bao, and twice cooked pork. These dishes are usually consistently good. I’m going straight against the advice of a few other reviewers here on this, but avoid the honey walnut prawns (cloyingly sweet, and also weirdly greasy).
Honestly, based on the food alone, ToS hovers between a three and four star rating, but the service– and ambiance-​related issues really push me to drop it down to a three:
(1) The overall noise level. It’s really loud in here. All the time. You cannot hold a conversation with your dinner partners; they can’t hear you, and you can’t hear them. You’d have to be a lip-​reader to hold a decent conversation during peak dinner hours.
(2) Brusque and often ill-​informed staff. I don’t expect great service at Chinese restaurants in general (and I speak Chinese, which usually helps), but ToS staff seems to have a really high turnover rate, and consequently they don’t always know their menu. On top of that, they’re frequently short with their customers. On this last visit, our server never gave my table napkins, so I wound up having to get them myself.

I live 3 minutes away from here and this is my family go to place for celebration lunch, be it birthday, graduation, etc. They always have a table for us, and the food are delicious and cheap. For 11 people, we pay about roughly $ 100 — 110. I would recommend cold spicy noodles for starter, and you eat the rice with following entrees: steamed tilapia, black bean sauce fish, and chongqing hot chicken are the ones we always get and we always rotate with other menu items. They are shared together on the turning table thing. Each portion is very big as well.
Good food, very reasonable price, great location, fast service (did I mention the food comes very quickly?). If you are looking for warm hospitality, then don’t eat at a Chinese restaurant lol. What matters is the taste of the food and how quick they serve them.

Taste of Sichuan has 2 parts to their menu: 1. American Chinese classics 2. Sichuan spicy «wild» side.
both offers valid choices.
If you’re looking to be more adventurous look on their wild menu to be able to taste some authentic Sichuan food.
They also have pretty tasty hand shaved noodles here.
Prices are reasonable and portions are huge.
Service is not as bad as people make it seem.
If you like spicy and/​or chinese food, come here!

Ordered the five spice tofu with peanuts and stir fried veggies; basic food in many places. Here every thing was very clean, strong, complex flavored. Most of the diners were Asian or Chinese, itself a good sign. Worth coming with a crowd to try as much as possible.
Portions are generous (read ridiculous), service when I came was fast and friendly.
The tofu was light on peanuts, sitting in a pool of chili oil. But eat the tofu from the top, leave the oil behind. It is yummy.

I haven’t given this place a try in a long time, but I know there are many devoted fans (I’m looking at you, Yvett) so I thought I’d put my past grudges about bad service aside and try again. It was 9 o’clock on a Saturday night after a long day spent moving crap with my ex and his family (no, you dont need to know).I was ready for some tea and carbs.
We really needed sustenance and a place open until ten. And comfort. For me, Chinese is comforting. It’s my childhood memories all nestled in steamed rice and tied up with chopsticks and a fortune cookie bow.
We were seated quickly, brought water and forks. On this night we each chose a menu item. One chose rice and tea. Another chose kung pao chicken. I chose dan dan noodles. We added some Sichuan steamed dumplings from the wild side and thought we were done. Our waiter claimed those were all small. So we ordered the green onion pancake too. But really the food we had chosen was plenty.
Everything was spiiiiiiccccyyyy. And packed with flavor. Dishes came out as they were ready. Our server was pleasant. Our waters refilled often. The rice was perfect. ($ 3 not included). The food runner was a bit abrupt. I didnt care. It was the end of a busy Saturday night. Families/​groups around us were happy. There was no music playing. Just a lot of people talking, sharing food, and enjoying each others company. Nice!
My grudge is done I think. The food was damn good. We left happy.
I will go back once more before I give it my wholehearted endorsement. Just to be sure.

Heat meets Meat for a perfect mix to eat … thanks to tender and flavorful Lamb with a healthy & spicy dose of Green Jalapeño Peppers. (5 stars)
* Steamed Pork Belly with Sichuan Pickles ($ 15.95)
You had me at Pork Belly … fatty & soft thick ribbons of pork belly … get in mah belly. (5 stars)
* Whole Fish in Black Bean Sauce ($ 9.95/lb)
It’s the whole fish and nothing but the whole fish … completely smothered in colorful and almost sweet sauce. (4 stars)
* Twice-​cooked Pork Sichuan Style ($ 13.95)
If once is good, then twice is nice for thin cuts of Pork and a mess of Green Onions and Scallions. (4 stars)
* Eggplant in Hot Garlic Sauce ($ 9.95)
Finding a Chinese place that can make Eggplant without turning out all mushy gives me a warm mushy feeling. (4 stars)
* Dry Cooked String Beans ($ 10.95)
This simple and classic Chinese vegetable dish is perfect for sharing although you may not want to actually do so. Green and lean, if you know what I mean. (4 stars)
* Pickled Cabbage with Fish Soup ($ 9.95÷4)
The first food to arrive was a big bowl of Fish Soup quickly served into individual bowls for all 8 people at the table. It was good, but not great. (3 stars)
