History

Established in 1916.

It was 1916 when Robert Ganapole first began manufacturing custom packing trunks in a small corner of the bustling Portland Waterfront area. He quickly became known for exceeding customer expectations in both quality and price, and soon his business was thriving. In 1943, Robert’s son-​in-​law, Bill Simon, opened a retail store providing the best selection of luggage and travel trunks in the Northwest. Over the next 56 years, Portland Luggage Company established the standard for quality brand names, the latest styles and designs, and the highest level of customer service.

Bill’s children, third-​generation family members Wendy and Gregg, next took over the business, maintaining the tradition established by their father and grandfather. Nearly a century after opening, Portland Luggage is the most trusted name in travel goods and features the best selection and pricing available.

Gregg Simon is the 3^rd generation family member to run Portland Luggage, and works hard to maintain the great legacy set by his father and grandfather before him. Loved by his employees and customers alike, Gregg strives to provide the highest quality products at the best prices. He is also passionate about giving back to the community, continuing Portland Luggage’s long-​standing tradition of involvement with worthwhile charities and foundations.
