Mike’s Auto Parts – Cedar Mill

I highly suggest not purchasing anything from them through their eBay site. They are very difficult to work with and not helpful.
I purchased a set of chains from them and when I was on the mountain (within 30 minutes of their first use) they actually broke which put me into a situation where I needed to purchase a new set. When I got down from the mountain and contacted Patrick via eBay he was very rude. He told me he would repair the chains but I was unable to get my money back.
Not to mention that the entire side of my truck bed is now damaged from a loose cable slapping against it after breaking off.
I would not give service to this company ever again. They do not have basic customer service skills.

Great local shop that isn’t going to run you for a loop. I see people complaining about the service there and parts in stock and have yet to have any complaints. I’ve always enjoyed talking to the workers there, old and young (I’m a young guy), who know there stuff and are damn genuine. People complaining they don’t know specifics clearly don’t know a lot about cars or mechanics in general (i.e. Who knows the exact kind of screwdriver to fit in a lighting fixture of your «standard car»? That’s a ridiculous request and if somebody pretends to know they’re lying. Use your standard screwdriver set or jewlers set like everyone else and figure it out, don’t expect your local auto shop employee to be an omnipotent mechanic.)
As for parts in stock it sounds like Mikes is now about 60% online services in terms of revenue. If you need a part order online or through the store, they’re pretty accommodating. Ex. I drive a ’98 LR Discovery, the damn thing being a British car is hitting that wall in its life when I’m constantly replacing/​fixing things. My main brake cylinder is leaking pretty bad so we call up mikes, tell them what they need and order the component. It’s here in under a week, in the meantime I have to monitor brake fluid levels and top-​off, one hour self install and boom, done. As opposed to sending to my mechanic and paying twice to three times as much with no car for over a week. Mikes rocks.

Very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I needed a new turn signal assembly which they ordered and had in the next day. It wasn’t a busy time when I picked it up and the person who sold it to me came out and spent five minutes helping me to install the part! Where else will you find that kind of customer service?

I value local businesses and tend to buy locally but Mikes is an exception.
I’ve been there a few times and they rarely have what I need in stock. They do have lots of commodity items like oil and so on… that can be purchased at Walmart for a LOT less.
They don’t offer any ability to communicate via e-​mail and as one reviewer noted, calling them on the phone is an exercise in frustration.
The employees there are generally indifferent at best.
With the huge, new Autozone a block away, I suspect that Mikes isn’t going to be around much longer.

Everyone there was very helpful. They were able to order a set of replacement shocks and and handle the Bilstein warranty, after determining mine were defective.

Here I am needing a part on Sunday that Mikes may very well have in stock so why dont I… WAIT! My last experience with Mikes was when I needed an alternator and was told by the employee that they did have it in stock. So I zipped on over there only to find that the employee was wrong and it was not in stock. They didnt really seem to care that they falsely assured me it was in stock, in fact they sort of softly pushed the blame on me.
As a customer I know its a good idea to recite the make, model and year not once but twice and then ask for confirmation from the employee when using the phone to find parts. Which I did when I phoned Mikes that day.
I also know from experience how hard it can be to work the other side of the counter, most customers expect you to magically discern which parts they need with little or no info to go on. Still, Mikes didnt work very hard, no, didnt try at all to keep my business so today I will drive a few miles further to a store that answers the phone and doesnt put me on hold right away.

Went in to get replacement wiper blades/​refills. Came up to the sales clerk, who looked up the part numbers and showed me the blades. I then asked if refills would work– which would be cheaper than replacing the entire blade. Reluctantly the clerk found the refills. I asked him (perhaps stupidly), if my original blades would accept refills. He said probably. His attitude was lackadaisical throughout. In any case, I checked my car– determined just the rubber needed replacement and went back to the store to purchase the refills and have them put them on. I was quickly informed, that we install blades– not rubber replacements. I then asked to speak to a manager, and was told– You can’t. I then asked… do you mean the manager was not in?- and I was told yes. What I have found in this and a couple of other times, is that, at least this location, lacks a customer service orientation– and apparently rude personnel are the norm– rather than the exception.

These guys are Imports Specialist in my opinion. For years i have bought parts for my BMW X5 3.0. If they don’t have it in stock they can special order and arrives the next couple of days. Their prices are very competitive as online pricing WITHOUT the shipping charge. And if I have any issues with parts, they will be glad to take return, unlike online ordering that would be very difficult, costly and time consuming. The most recent part I bought from them was the MAHLE Oil Filter (OEM for my X5) in stock for just $ 6.45 when Autozone, Baxter’s, and Orielly’s selling the Wix, STP, Frame brands for $ 10.99. Customers service always curtesy and friendly. If you owns a European cars, i highly recommend Mike’s Auto for parts.
As for the guy Josh H. complaint about wait time, you need to chill out. Maybe you lost signal when you shouldn’t be listening to music in an elevator. A lot of places when busy will might have the same issue. But generally, i have had very good customer service and friendly in the past years.

I came in looking for wiper blades for my Escape. The employee found them quickly, cashed me out and installed them in no time. Other auto parts stores do not offer that service and it’s the little things like that that make me want to come back. Wish they had a location closer to or in downtown.
To the guy in the previous review angry that he was asked to be put on hold: chill out. At least they asked you to be put on hold, many places do not even do that. Get over yourself.

As a female, I’ve always been wary of anything involving car repair but because of the help I received today at Mike’s, any time I ever need anything for my car, you better believe I’m going to Mike’s! My car was in dire need of a new battery and so my husband and I headed to Mike’s to get a new one. The gentleman there (didn’t catch his name, dangit!) was so helpful! He came outside multiple times to make sure my husband and I were doing okay with the battery switch — he even let us borrow tools we needed and oiled up the nuts and bolts for us so they’d be easier to unscrew. If it wasn’t for his help, I don’t think we could have done it by ourselves, plus it was just about closing time!
I’ve worked in customer service and I know how difficult it can be, so my husband and I just wanted Mike’s Auto Parts to know how much we appreciated the gentleman’s help! Maybe the reason the man below me was on hold for so long was because the employee who answered the phone had to go out in the parking lot to help someone else! You never know, but with customer service like that, as long as I live in Portland I won’t go anywhere else!

Mike’s is a great local auto parts shop. They have a knowledgeable staff that is familiar with auto repairs and they are able to see beyond what the computer says to ensure you get what you need. They also seem to carry or be able to get parts that you might only be able to get at a dealership. They are more than happy to install your wiper blades or come out to the parking lot to take a look at your light bulbs, etc. Sure I could do this myself, but the extra customer service is really appreciated.

I called Mike’s, and they immediately lost my business… I was «asked» to hold… I use the term «ask» very loosely as it was more like a half second of inaudible mumbling before I was stuck on hold for over 15min… I barely had a chance to realize someone had answered the phone before I was listening to elevator music… then I’m on hold for 15−20min?! Not exactly what I would quantify as stellar customer service…
