JS Roofing

While getting our roof repaired there was an additional charge on our credit card that we had not given prior authorization for nor were we ever spoken to about what it was for until AFTER we asked about it, of which they still couldn’t/wouldn’t elaborate other than «additional roof supplies».
We had opted for the 6-​month financing, and gave them the credit card information those payments were to be charged on. On the 3^rd month they charged a different card that they had apparently saved in their files (without our consent), because the original card had switched from MasterCard to Visa and they weren’t able to process the charge. I spoke with the owner, Ivan, about this (within a couple days of the charge) and he said he would check with his bank about refunding the incorrect card and charging the correct card — and if that weren’t possible then he would bring a check over for the amount and then charge the new card. Since we spoke, 3 weeks ago, I have contacted their company via 2 emails and 6 calls/​voicemails, but have yet to get a response of any kind. My last email and call/​voicemail indicated that I would be disputing the charge to our credit card company if I didn’t have a resolution within 2 business days. Still no contact from JS Roofing, LLC — we have disputed the charge and our credit card company is also not getting any response from them.
I have made a complaint to the BBB, and while on their site noticed an alert about JS Roofing falsely advertising that they’re BBB Accredited, and that they will not reply or comply with BBB’s request to cease.

JS did a cleanup of our cement tile roof. They were high priced but we agreed to the estimate and the invoice matched. We paid in full within a week of invoicing.
They had noticed some broken tiles so we told the to give us an estimate for the work. When they finally came out a few months later (no written estimate) they used tiles that were much lighter in color than the roof. We did not notice that until weeks later.
We gave them a credit card number for the current repair.
Later checking charges, they not only charged our credit card for the current repair but also for the original cleaning (already paid for) plus $ 400.00! Our bank dealt with reversing the charges as communicating with JS is very difficult. Do not use these folks!

Asked them to do a roof inspection, and they quoted me a price.
Didn’t show up in the time they mentioned, so I gave a call and their guy showed up about 15 minutes later. He wasn’t equipped to do the job, but he said they would be in touch.
I never heard back from them.
No big deal for them, but when you are buying a house, inspections should happen during a specified time period, and this company doesn’t seem to be aware of that.
Roof inspection quote was 180 dollars, and I’ll bet they could do the job in 45 minutes or less. Looks like they don’t need money.
The other two companies I found for inspections were good, but I messed up on this one.

DO NOT use this company! I called and asked for an estimate on my roof being replaced. Ivan came out with his son and reviewed the work that needed to be done. He gave me an estimate and then said he needed a retainer check for $ 250. (This should have been my first clue that this guy was shady) I asked him to wait 2 days to cash the check, he said this was fine.
He didn’t wait the 2 days like I asked, I then called the company and asked for my money back. They said that they’d have to talk to the owner and see what they could do and call me back. They NEVER called me back. I called and left 3 messages over the week. I called again, no answer, my granddaughter then called on her phone and Ivan answered (I feel that he is screening the calls) she then handed the phone to me. When I confronted him about not returning my calls he said he was sorry he’d been busy. I then told him I wanted to go ahead and get my roof replaced, (I decided to give him a 2^nd chance) we set up a time for him to come back to go over roof colors. He did show up.
We then called again and asked that they come back out to go over some more things with the roof. We set up an appointment for today Monday at 10:00 — no on showed up. I called at 10:15 and got a recorded message saying the caller was not receiving calls, same at 10:30 called 8 times got no answer. Called on a blocked number and got through to answering machine. Left message and still have not heard anything. It is now 2:30, and 2 messages have been left. I want my money back and I’m going else where for my roof.
They may have had the best price, but they have awful customer service, they never return calls (unless they think you are a new customer)
UPDATE 12÷8÷2015: We still have never heard back from him. I have since found out that he has had multiple contracting license under different names. What a fraud!

JS roofing did a great job on our new roof. They installed the same GAF system at a better price than prior estimates of their competitors. They were on time to start the job and completed timely as we expected even in the extreme Portland heat (imagine that). They did a good job cleaning up and we are thrilled to have a nice looking, fresh roof! We recommend JS Roofing!

JS Roofing removed my shake roof and replaced it with 50 yr presidential at a price I couldn’t beat. Not only did they do an outstanding job but they were respectful of my surrounding property and did a superb cleanup job. I highly recommend them for quality and value.

I’m amending my original 5 star review for the following reasons:
After they cleaned our roof last year, we signed up for their annual roof blowing/​gutter cleaning to reduce how often we would need to clean our roof. This service was to be done in December.
December rolled around and no one showed up to do the work.
I called the office a month or so later to see when they would be by. I was told, «soon» or words to that effect.
No one showed up.
I called again and finally someone showed up to do the annual cleaning in April, 4 months after we expected the work to be done and way past time for the gutters to be cleaned.
They do great work but I did not expect to have to call to remind them to do the routine, annual cleaning that we signed up for.
My second beef with them:
I requested a meeting with Ivan to get a bid for a roof to go over a box bay window before the box bay was built so that if there was anything we needed our GC to do in preparation for the new roof — especially since we were planning to do concrete tile, same as what is on our home — the work would be done correctly and the job could proceed without a hitch.
Ivan told me that he’d come out with the person who was coming to clean our our roof on ⁴⁄₈ (see my other review). He didn’t show. I’ve no idea why. I talked to him on the phone and we set up a time to meet for that Saturday (⁴⁄₁₁).
He stood me up. I know things can come up to delay appointments but he didn’t even call to explain why he wouldn’t be there. He simply did not show.
I called the office on Monday, ⁴⁄₁₃ to express my frustration and disappointment. I told the receptionist that I was seriously rethinking my rave review of JS Roofing. I was told someone would call me.
And still, no one called me. At all. If they weren’t interested in the work, the least they could have done was say, «no, thank you.» But no one called.
We’ve hired another roofing company.
As I told a neighbor, perhaps they are good at the big jobs and horrible at the little jobs. But the little jobs need doing, just the same. I am very disappointed in this company. I do not like giving poor reviews but I feel that this one is deserved.

We hired JS Roofing to clean our concrete tile roof, clean out our gutters and power wash our driveway and patio, on the recommendation of several neighbors who hired them and were very pleased with their work.
I am very happy that they took steps to protect my garden before beginning, throwing tarps over plants near the house and over my 3 water features. I’ve hired contractors before who stomped through my garden without a second thought (and I’d never hire them again!).
The crew is respectful and hard-​working. We’d hire them again.
