Specialties
Café Kolache is an inviting «gathering place» within the historic town of Beaver. For breakfast, lunch, dessert or an anytime snack, the café features homemade kolaches (ko-la-cheez)…fresh-baked, slightly sweetened yeast dough filled with meats, eggs, cheeses, fruits, or veggies. Unique and delicious, kolaches are favorites for locals and visitors alike! The café offers other homemade gourmet pastries, soups & salads, a full service espresso bar, and Pittsburgh-roasted gourmet coffees and loose leaf teas. Meeting Room and Catering Available.
History
Established in 2003.
Kristi Harper, (co-owner of Café’ Kolache, along with her husband, Hugh) spent 11 years in Houston, Texas and it was there that she, like many others, came to appreciate this «fun-food» of the Czech people. The Texas cities of Austin, Dallas and Houston have numerous Kolache shops; and Kolache Festivals are annual events in towns like Caldwell and West, Texas. However, while the Czech culture is a notable one in the Pittsburgh, PA area, until Café Kolache’s opening in 2003, the kolache was only able to be enjoyed by families in their own homes using great-grandma’s recipe
