Best sushi you will find. Small and very casual but never disappointed. Avocado bomb is to die for.

nothing to rave about, from food, décor to services. Just hit the minimum bar for a reasonably priced dining experiences.

The fish is really good hear. This is the place I experiment with sushi, the real sushi, the stuff not covered in sauce, or deep fried. I tried the spicy rolls, that were just ok. But the sashimi appetizer was really good. Fish I would never try was delicious. If you like the fish part of sushi, and not sushi covered in sauces, this is the place for you.

Please try spicy tuna bomb, it is out of this world! Overall sushi quality is fresh and top notch. Love this place.

Great place, great people, very interesting foods. There is a lot of hospitality shown here. But when you go, ask what is good at the sushi bar because most of their best stuff is not on the menu. All in all, 4.5 to 5 star place and I definitely recommend coming here if you’re feeling daring or just want some good sushi.

Best sushi in Queens PERIOD! Certain items are a bit pricey compared to other places but definitely well worth it. All ingredients and fish are extremely fresh and I love the way they make their spicy tuna/salmon(not processed and not from an overnight batch). Staff is super welcoming and on point! Always my go-to sushi spot in Queens :) PS, I highly recommend the avocado bomb and kani-su

The sushi is way overpriced and services lacking. There are better places to go for sushi

This place is pretty awesome. Food is good, not overly over priced but definitely not cheap. What makes it even best is the level of service. The owners and servers will strike conversation explain the quality of their fish. I wish I had more options since I am pregnant I have to have cooked. Can’t wait to return once I am able to eat all the wonderful fish selection. They have a wide selection of sake and Japanese specialties! Would recommend.

Very interesting place. Sushi in Bayside is sadness wrapped in a teardrop of despair falling from the face hopelessness. I would rather eat my own butt smothered in guano and garnished with industrial waste than eat at any Bayside sushi establishment. Mickey’s is an interesting exception to that. Do you know what a inductive reasoning is? It’s a statement that you can’t prove is true, but you’ve never seen an exception, so you take it as truth. For example, the statement«Every time it rains, my lawn gets wet, so if rains, my lawn will get wet.» Not necessarily true. I can spread a tarp over my lawn, for example. But inductively, it’s true until I see a counter-example. I gotta say — inductively, whenever I have sushi made by non-Japanese, it sucks. Whenever I have sushi made by Japanese, it’s wonderful. That’s true of Mickey’s, but with a twist. I literally walked out of Sushi Bell and Mr. Wasabi without finishing my sushi. In both cases, My rolls tasted of rice, vinegar, avocado, wasabi — everything except for the fish. So I ordered sashimi, only to find that the fish is low-quality, tasteless, and suffered from freezer burn. So when I walked into the Mickey’s, the first thing I did was order green tea and sashimi along with a few other items. Before I get to reviewing, you should know that I spent a year living in Japan, so I’m intimately familiar with quality Japanese food. Mickey looks Japanese to me and I had a very short/quick interaction with him in Japanese. The waiters looked Chinese and Hispanic. The non-sushi chef I saw was obviously Hispanic. I didn’t get a good look at the sushi chefs(I think there were two) but as I left the restaurant I yelled out 御馳走様でした and they yelled back 有難うございました just like chefs do in Japan, so I’m guessing they’re Japanese. Keeping the previous paragraph in mind, here’s the punchline of this review: * The fish is great — the best I’ve had in Bayside, and rivals fish I’ve had in Manhattan. * The non-fish dishes are terrible. All the sashimi I was given was excellent, and Mickey’s gives you very generous cuts. Gyoza: B Completely average, meaning, the filling was bland. I would’ve liked to have tasted more ginger and garlic. They might have been frozen gyoza. Sake Sashimi: A A very generous cut of salmon. It had a natural red coloring, indicating it was probably caught using 活け締め. Very buttery, meaning it was fresh. Nice balance of fat and meat. Hamachi Sashimi: A A beautiful generous cut of yellow tail tuna. Super buttery with a wonderful mouth texture. Hamachi is one of the stronger tasting fishes, so bad hamachi can be slightly fishy. This hamachi was strong but delicious. One of my favorites. Unagi: A Hands down the best unagi I’ve eaten in Bayside. The unagi I’ve had from other sushi places in Bayside had bones that I had to pick out of my mouth, meaning they’re much older eels. The bones were soft and chewable, giving a classic unagi experience. Unagi is my favorite meal at Japanese restaurants, so I’m pretty sensitive to flaws in its flavor. This was excellent. Tonkotsu: D Unacceptable. So dry I could barely choke down a single piece. And flavorless. The tonkotsu sauce should *enhance* the tonkotsu — it shouldn’t serve as esophageal lubricant for hopelessly dry food. Besides, I’ve never been fond of tonkotsu sauce… tasts like cough medicine to me(not the restaurant’s fault — it actually tasted quite authentic. I just don’t like this particular sauce.) In Mickey’s defense, I’ve NEVER had acceptable tonkotsu outside of Japan.

The sushi is very fresh, and the people are pretty nice. Number 17, even though it isn’t a sushi dish is pretty excellent. I remember it’s a chicken, beef, and shrimp stir fry with sesame sauce.

Hopping the train from Manhattan and coming to Mickey’s with a buddy of mine is now a tradition every time I’m in NY. First of all Mickey and his wife are sweethearts and the type of people you want to come back and give your business to. Second, the sushi here is fresh, tasty and all you’d want it to be. I can’t even tell you all that we get as I let my friend(who is a regular here) order for us every time. I just know what comes out is great and I always leave stuffed! The sushi chefs are friendly and care about you enjoying your meal. Did I mention it’s also BYOB?! I always look forward to stopping by here. Thank you Mickey!

Loved the customer service! Patrick was a very professional waiter and made us feel welcome. After reading the reviews I decided to try this place out. The sushi was in fact fresh and tasty. We tried the avocado Bomb and it was the BOMB. Also had a few rolls and they were awesome. Old school Japanese ambience and its lighting is very smooth. Mickeys is honestly a bit pricey and I was disappointed they didn’t have any tempura rolls. Also didn’t like that they didn’t accept discover credit cards or American Express but there was an ATM not too far. Bill came out to about 40 $ for 2 rolls and the avocado bomb with a soup. Like I said I thought it was a bit pricey for Queens but the quality was good so u can’t really complain.

It is a very affordable place with real Japanese sushi. This is my third time in Mickey’s and I will continue visiting it. The employees are very polite and the owner is always concerned that you are treated well. They are open six days a week and closed on Tuesday. The price ranges are from cheap to moderate.

Looks like the sushi joints in the village… Decoration is pretty authentic looking. The sushi is pretty fresh… Had the chirashi and it was delicious!!! Their salmon rolls are very fresh and full of salmon YUM! This is a small restaurant, yet it is cozy. Worth visiting over and over again.

1) This is NOT the best sushi restaurant in NYC — not even close. 2) I am ONLY rating one dish: The avocado bomb with salmon. That one dish deserves 5 stars and is the only dish I would order in the future. Having said that, we want to go back just to eat the avocado bomb. It was really THAT good. 3) The rest of the menu is meh — 3 stars at most. Sushi is ok — the rice was bland and the flavors are not exciting. The udon soup was average — I would not order it again.

Good prices, fresh sushi, pretty quick service. Came in for takeout during the dinner rush and still didn’t have to wait too long for my order to be ready. The portions are pretty huge. The udon is a bit disappointing, though. I’ll definitely be back to try their other stuff.

Ah Mickey’s. you are still the one! Sometimes you have a long time favorite that you may not get to go to as often as you would like, but when you stop in you notice things are a little different, not quite as good. FORTUNATELY, Mickey’s food is STILL delicious and the sushi is the freshest and tastiest! There is a distinctive flavor to Mickey’s sushi with the fish being some of the freshest and best value for your sushi dollar it also comes down to the rice which is seasoned and served at the proper temperature. For me, when I eat Mickey’s sushi I know it is Mickey’s by the distinctive flavor — its just not as good as this in all the sushi places I have tried(especially on Long Island, sorry!) Has anything changed? Well sure the prices have gone up, but what hasn’t in this city? With the cost of doing business going up drastically I always marvel at how«mom and pop» establishments maintain in such a tough environment. It is evident that Mickey’s is feeling the strain of walking that fine line of giving their customers the best food and value while trying to keep their business going. That being said, the cost is reasonable and appropriate for the high quality food. Although we are not the regulars we once were Jenny still has a friendly word and remembers when we came to celebrate buying our new house on Long Island — she always remembers personal details! We did notice the regulars still get the complimentary little dish of seaweed with fish, or perhaps they asked for it? I do miss that — I chalk it up to the cost of doing business. The restaurant is small. It does not have cool colored lights, or a loungey vibe and slick décor — which are all positives. There is a homeyness here with personalized pictures and paintings adorning the walls along with mementos that Mickey has collected over the years. Why do I bother trying to find a sushi place closer to my home when Mickey’s exists? After eating there last night it made me regret my fools folly and not eating here more often!

Besides the fact that we were the only portions in the restaurant and got served 15 minutes after arrival. We got the kani bomb and beef nagamaki really fast. But the raw sushi we got after waiting for a while. The people came after us and received there naga hamachi before us. But I gave the four stars because it was really fresh. I tried the uni again it was fresh but I won’t get it again. It’s not worth the 7 $ per. And this place isnt cheap. My wife and I will continue to look for our sushi spot.

Boyfriend and I had a sushi date here last Saturday night. It’s walking distance from our apartment, and we’ve passed by it countless times but never took the time to check it out. Their kitschy décor sets the vibe for a real cozy, homey feel. Good thing we called in a reservation for 8pm, because it was a full house! Service took a while, but only because they had a single waitress working about a dozen tables.(I used to be a server at a small Japanese restaurant so I know the struggle.) Unfortunately, our experience here did not meet my expectations. The tempura appetizer only had 4 pieces and was overly greasy. And their avocado bomb with eel and yellowtail was good, but not great. Not worth the $ 17 price tag, and definitely overhyped by the other reviews here. Basic rolls are very meaty and don’t skimp on the fish, but our special roll was lacking. Overall, Mickey’s is a pretty average place and I doubt we will be returning.

I’ve been coming here for over a year now for their fresh fish and awesome fried shumai, but only just thought of writing a review because their service is really amazing! I called in an order for pick-up. For those of you who know Bell Blvd, finding parking can be over-the-top ridiculous. After driving around a million and one times, I finally had to call back and tell them I wasn’t able to find any spots to stand in. The owner told me to just stand out front and she’d bring everything out to me — no bad attitude, no impatient sighs. Within seconds, she was outside handing me my food and running back in to charge my card. Not only was this really gracious of them(considering it was a busy Friday night), but incredibly convenient for me. She even told me that the next time I order take-out to just let them know I’m driving and they’ll meet me outside again. You can frequent a restaurant because their food is great, but service is also what keeps people coming back — Mickey’s has hit both targets for me straight on! Now if only they were open for lunch…
